Actually - what if Shepard was seriously injured in that Harbinger attack and what we're seeing here is a nightmare? If there is an 'endgame' DLC on the way, it could start in a similar way to ME2 - or those implants Cerberus put in Shepard could save his/her life. 'Cause let's face it, if Shepard were forced to make a decision that destroyed everything regardless of his/her past actions, it WOULD be a nightmare scenerio for him/her.

My mass effect score 80/100 -- Solid B
Why I gave it that score:

What I liked:
Emotions- this game has a lot of them and draws them out in the player. From old friends falling, to simply watching Thessia burn and feeling the weight of 5 billion dead asarri on your shoulders. From laughing at Moridins cracks to being enraged at the illusive mans casual disregard for slaughtering people who just want sanctuary. The game was incredibly well written (by and large) and really invoked strong emotions, this is the only game that I literally cried during. When the assari fighter pilots died giving me cover fire I teared up, moments of heroism like that just casual thrown in really made it FEEL like a war.

Combat- not perfect but vastly improved from ME2 IMO. It was fast paced and furious. I found I could still do a majority of the fights by standing in 1 cover and taking out enemies as they came but occasionally they'd stay hidden and make me come after them.

Characters- See emotions, you created incredible characters. From tali who started as the shy kid but evolved into the confident flirt with a sexiness to her even though you can't see her expressions (because it's hard to envission expressions on a stock photo). Garrus is an awesome war buddy and hearing him lament about his homeworld (see that fire spot, ya i was born there) was touching.

Soundtrack- fantastic

Graphics- game looks beautiful.

Choices (pre ending)- seeing as how I'm a talimancer I couldn't let her kill herself but I reloaded my save just to see it. This is the stuff that makes ME so great. It has choices that carry weight. Do i stand by and watch these people get killed?

Little tidbit- the little things in the game were great. Charrs goodbye poem made many people tear up, myself included. The woman begging for help to get her daughter home to her family on thessia, you find out she gets her wish just before you go to thessia and see the place destroyed.

Things I didn't like:

Endings- Devoid of real choices. The game was built upon consequences for our choices and the only thing our choices do is give us some extra ships showing up in the cinematic before the fight push. Beyond that once you walk into the magic beam of light and meet Saren, sorry i mean The Illusive Man, and starchild your choices no longer carry any weight. At all.  You are shoe horned into Destroy all reapers and edi and geth (all synthetics) which destroys a friend and a race you helped not to mention completely devalues Legions sacrifice. It also sets the quarians (my girlfriends) race back a few generations because they no longer have the geth to help them adjust with the immune system.

Or i can chose synthesis and make everyone a slightly more evolved version of a husk, ya no thanks.

Or I can chose control. This one I actually had the BIGGEST problem with. The Illusive man was built up as the bad guy the entire game. He was thwarting you at every chance and did HORRIBLE HORRIBLE things. And in the end, dudes right? There's something very wrong with that to me.

So after making my choice i get the exact same cinematic just with a different color. My crew runs away (:wizard:) and end up crashed on some random planet. Not to mention people that were on the ground with me walk out of the ship completely healthy. And my choices leading up to the end have no effect.

Now as for the "shep lives!" idea. Shep may "live" because you show him taking a half a breath before cutting to credits but shep is beaten, battered and now stripped of all his synthetic upgrades he got in ME2 so likely in terrible pain and bleeding badly (he did just walk into a red thing that was blowing up) . I'm laying in a pile of rubble. Am i still on the citidel? If so how is anyone to know i'm alive and it is highly unlikely that anyone would find me in time for me to be nursed back to health anyway. Did I somehow fall back to earth (as it appears) well a) that's a pretty big fall to survive, B)how was I not incinerated by the reentry?

Also let's examine the star child. First off the dream sequences with star child were annyoing. Secondly WHY DOES SHEP BELIEVE HIM! You don't give us the option to question him so we have to assume shep just believes everything he says. Which goes entirely against the personality of shep . Paragon or Renegade shepherd has always had a "damn the fates" mentality. Yet in the end he listens to this starchild explain his logic (Yo dawg heard you didn't want to be killed by synthetics, so i made some synthetics to kill organics so organics would create synthetics that kill organics!)  and shep just stands there like ... oooooh ok. No screw that, shep would have been like "bite me kid" and found a way, again all choices prior to the game were nullified here.

The idea that shep "has to die" as many have thrown out, is wrong in my opinion. ME was always based around your choices and the consequences they bring. The idea that anything "has to happen" goes against the very nature of ME. The reapers don't "have" to lose. If you rush through the game and make the wrong choices they should be able to win. Make all the right choices, shep should be able to survive and retire in happiness and peace.

ok moving on. The tali situation: As a tali fan I was really hoping we'd see her face and what we got was a poorly photoshopped stock picture on our nightstand. You had a fantastic moment when she removed her mask on her homeworld to see her planet with her own eyes to pan the camera around and let us see her. But no, a photo on the bedside table is SOO much more dramatic. Also the romance scene "click mask, fade to black" really?

the game had many plot holes in the end, prior to that it was PERFECT. However I gave you a solid B grade because the absolute betrayal of your fans and the characters you wrote demands at least a drop down to that level.

Since the amount of text being posted on these boards lately is overwhelming, I'll simply point out my thoughts concerning the game insted of doing a traditional review.

The Good:

[*]The darker tone of the story. I believe Bioware's done a good job at creating an atmosphere of despair and made it absolutely clear to the player just what's at stake at the end of the road. This feature sets the game apart from ME1 and 2. Main Storyline missions were on par with the prequels quality wise, loved them all,
[*]Cameos of old squadmembers were satisfying and brought closure to their stories in most cases,[*]Gameplay was improved across the board,[*]Skill system and weapon upgrades are both an improvement over what ME2 offered in this regard,[*]Multiplayer, despite my original doubts is suprisingly fun
[*]Fantastic Soundtrack[*]Great game, despite all of the problems I have with ME3 it's still impressive, it would be absolutely worthy of the franchise name... if it wasn't for the ending.

The Bad:

[*]Conversation options... or lack thereof. I feel as the dialogue options were always the heart of the Mass Effect experience for me. In most cases there are no more than two occassions to talk with your companions on the Normandy in a traditional way, and even then, your dialogue choices are are just a distant echo of what once was. In most cases there isn't even an "investigate" option. Once ME2 came out I was pretty much fine with reducing the rpg elements as long as the dialogue wheel stayed intact, but this time around I feel that Bioware has gone too far and I felt as being a spectator most of the time.[*]The Writing at times wasn't up to Mass Effect standards IMO. I'm a forgiving judge when it comes to plotlines in sci-fi stories, so I didn't mind the general story layout at all, but some of the dialogue between characters felt rushed and unimaginative compared to the earlier games. I can recall numerous situations when Shepard's responses were limited to generic one-liners along the line of "yeah..." I wouldn't mind it if it happened few and between but that's not the case sadly.[*]Exploration, yet another aspect of the earlier games in the series, which made the Mass Effect universe so immersive to me, limited pretty much to a few corridors on the Normandy and the Citadel this time around. Disappointing.[*]Side missions are exaples of some of the laziest fetch-quest design I've ever seen. In fact I think the whole Citadel questing hub interfered with the games overal pacing. Whenever I felt the story was beggining to pick up pace, it was undone moments later by confusing and mindnumbing sidequests. If there only were some proper conversation options with these questgivers, mayby they wouldnt feel this detached from the rest of the game,[*]The Quest Log. No explanation necessary I guess.[*]Textures and animations. I wouldn't imagine myself bringing this up in the past, considering how fantastinc Mass Effect 2 was in these areas. When I compare these 2, there's no doubt in my mind that the prequel was made with more care all around. The lightning and area art design were spectacular, while every conversation had a unique set of emotes and a lot of spontanious reactions from the characters, the camera angles were something to behold as well. In short the production values were cinema-worthy. ME3 still has plenty those moments, but they're all bound to the main storyline. Overal though I felt the presentation in the game isn't as consisnet as the predecessors was. What puzzles me with all of these technical issues, along with the sidequest design and the quest log is, why didn't Biowaree stick to solutions already implemented in ME2.[*]The Ending. It has been explained numerous times already so I wont go into details. In short it underlines everything you've for the past 5 years irrelevant and brings about the end of the Mass Effect universe as a place woth revisiting. It's illogical, both from a storytelling and a business perspective. I had flashbacks of KotOR2, only worse :/[*]

As it stands I'd rate ME3 at 5/10, while with an ending that made sense it's a 9/10 material. It's a real pitty that the last 5 minutes of the trilogy underline years of inspiring effort. It's a real shame indeed, sci-fi fans don't have many decent stories to look forward to these days, regardless of the medium. Mass Effect filled a void created by the TV and cinema scenes in a way, and now that's gone too. As it is, unless somethings done with the ending I probably won't buy any future Bioware products. Thanks for the ride guys, it's been fun while it lasted.

Lukanp I think you hit it on the nose per say...Only thing I would need to add is that they needed to be a bit more indepth in the romance area more dialoge and robustness added to it...

I really enjoyed this game and think it's a fantastic achievement up until the ending. I'm personally not that bothered about importing a face as I stuck to the default in both of the earlier ones. I felt you really captured the feel of a whole galaxy at war very well and the chaos that would go with it.

However the ending was awful in my opinion. So many plot holes and doesnt really make any sense. Major gripes:

1. The Mass Relays are destroyed no matter what you choose - This effectively leaves the entire galaxys' fleet (if you managed to get them all on side) stranded in the Sol system. How are they supposed to get back to their home systems within several lifetimes without the relays?
In the Arrival DLC it is also stated if the Mass Relays are destroyed it takes the entire system with it. Logically this means that every system that contains a mass relay would be destroyed with it so everybody dies anyway.

2.  A new character is introduced in the dieing seconds of the game and makes a statement: Synthetics harvest organics so they don't create synthetics that will kill organics - Order to the Chaos - it's a paradox. This doesn't make any sense. You also contradict this within the game by having the Quarians and Geth finally at peace and working together. You could argue that eventually the geth will inevitably evolve to a point where they no longer wish to live and work alongside organics and attempt to wipe them out but if that were the case why didn't they ally with the Reapers without the need for indoctrination?

3. The ending doesn't seem to take any of your previous decisions into account. We were promised an ending that reflected our actions within the game. You get to the citadel no matter what you do and the end result seems to be the same no matter what.
I can't help but feel cheated by this. It does limit replayability to an extent as the incentive to run through just to see the same cut scene again but with different colour waves seems like a waste of time.

Don't get me wrong I never wanted a cliched ending where Shepard and co live happily ever after and I expected a sacrifice of some description however it just doesn't fell right. I accept your artistic right to keep it as it is if you wish, it would just be much more satisfying for fans if it made sense to their own games and didn't leave plot holes and contradictions to the game lore.

Thank you BioWare for a fantastic series and all the hard work. Mass Effect 1,2 and 3 are still within my favourite games of all time regardless of how it ends.

Edit: Looking back I beileve I game this game too much credit, but after thinking on some of the flaws within the game, it's blatently obvious that ME3 deserves a lower score (This has nothing to do with the ending)

75/100 A decent game polishing it's flaws and hidding them with the brunt of the focus being the ending.

Likes:

- Variety of main mission mechanics, especially liked the drop in combat from the shuttle.
- Gameplay was very solid, though I found the infiltrator made the game too easy when I found the modification to slow down time.
- Not doing the traditional cliche's (yes I saw the ending but In my mind the ending isn't what it seems)
   - Was expecting the Cruciable to be turned on and the reapers wiped out shepard saves the day
   - Going Matrix style and sacrificing herself to have peace between the Machines and Galaxy
   - Gathering all the forces in the galaxy and wiping the reapers out with the combined strength in one blow
- Soooooo Glad this game didn't turn out into
    - Gathering a spec ops team like what was done in ME1&2 (little less of ME1 though)
    - Being entrenched on earth during most of the game, though I would have liked a part of the game where I played as a soldier (one maybe I imported from MP) to do some missions on Earth/Palavin/Thessia

- story telling and writing were top notch.
- Multiplayer is addictive and extreamly fun
- Banshee's, just epic win to whomever designed them to be dreaded and strike fear in the player, you pulled it off
- Shepards Final run to the beam to try and save the galaxy.

Dislikes:
- Constant security checks when going from the War Room to the flight deck were annoying
- Lack of Paragon as well as impactful choices
- Space exploration is dull with an annoying Reaper chase that isn't even challenging
- Love intrests are "Hollywood' in set-up. Not really interesting
- War Assests don't matter, in fact nothing you do matters
- ALL SiDE MISSIONS are the same maps in multiplayer....
- Lack of side missions that were impactful to the campeign
- Rachni story tie in was a COMPLETLY AND UTTERLY LAZY way of tying them in!!
- WTF happened to Harbinger, he's only seen once, where in ME2 he's seen as the Main Reaper, logic dictates that he should of at least make more appearences than he did
- There is no explanation for the ending...that's the real kicker, it's just a random assortment of rushed endings.
- TIM was poorly fleshed out as a villan, he just became another Saren
- Why does your game feel soo rushed?
- Quest Log was terrible, you had to remember where your contacts were and it never auto-updated if you completed parts of it (like collecting certain artifacts)
- Too many side missions where collection missions, most of which you never talk to anyone, you just evesdrop...didn't mind it, just that there was too much of this.
- Multiplayer bugs can be frustrating (Sometimes a Krogan's melee doesn't always work in succession)
- Multiplayer needs a level limit, if not for silver than for gold.
- MP reapers are just too much at time. Mass ammounts of Banshee's, Brutes, and Ravagers is like taking on an avalance head on and expecting to survive.
- MP could use another mode, maybe like defend the base or something.
- No REAL real bad guy except for the Reapers as a whole, the illusive man was more of a thorn in the side so to speak. Harbinger was never mentioned save once or twice and even then we never saw the guy, which was surpising seeing as he was the one controlling the Collectors in ME2. I guess It's refreshing now that I think about it though.
- Being Disconnected from Earth, during the game you never really get the sense of how bad it is on earth, just information from Anderson if you call him
- Would have liked more Hair options for the Female shepard. (<- this: ALL THA T IS THIS)

LACK OF REPLAYABILITY: Who wants to play a game where all of your actions end up to the same conclusion?

ABOVE ALL ELSE: I expected more from an ending to a triolgy, instead the more I look at it the more I see it's rushed...whomever decided to rush this game should be fired or quit from the video game buisness. Congratz, you make a quick buck but ruined a loyal fan base and their trust.

Things I would have liked to see:
- Aria T'Loak: I enjoyed this character's personality and Queen Bee syndrom in Mass effect 2 and was plesently surpised to see a cameo of her onboard the cithadel, but her only role was gathering the merc groups and nothing else which was disappointing.
- Taking down the Reaper on Rannoch: When Legion was driving in a geth tank (think that's what it was) I was half-expecting to do a chase scene while riding on the Geth tank trying to take down the Reaper. Would have been epic imo.

Ending:
In my interpretation, Shepard is dead. She fought as a hero saving the galaxy from itself and Sheparding the galactic civilizations as a collective whole to fight the impending doom they face. When she's shot by Harbinger, while running to the Beam, I think of the events that follow as her minds way of putting the entire struggle she's been through at ease before she dies. (It still continues in my mind).
+ the Response from the community is ammusing to watch, it's like people believe what they see rather than what they think. (I went in thinking it was a video game and I admit after seeing the ending I was a hater as well, but pondering the ending and coming up with my interpretation, it's extrodinary what you guys have done and I applaud you for it., though doing it more than once may not be the best of ideas :DReserving judgement till April...I hope it's worth it -.-

Other than that I never understood where people get the impression that Mass effect was a trilogy...This game struck me more of a series of games rather than a complete story to end in three installments.

An open letter to Bioware with pros and cons:

First of all, thank you for an amazing ride. I have been a fan of the Mass Effect universe since the first game. I've played ME1 and ME2 numerous times each, exploring every possible love interest and every paragon or renegade option in both games. I waited with great anticipation and admittedly little patience for each game in the series to come out. I've also read the books and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the events of the books incorporated into ME3.

Having played through ME3 once now, I have to say it is a superior game to either of the first two and Bioware did a great job of listening to feed back, incorporating suggestions and ironing out the kinks over the series. I appreciated having more loot, and more customization choices like in ME1, but having a more structured inventory and upgrade choices like ME2. The game play mechanics were great and the game was tremendously fun and playable. Voice acting was top notch, environments were beautifully detailed and totally fitting. The story continued to be enthralling and cut scenes were engaging and told the story very well. The musical score was fantastic. The writing was stellar (pun intended) throughout the game. I laughed out loud, I got misty eyed over lost companions and was genuinely sad to lose them. I had the wind completely taken out of my sails by an event in the game, and then found that Shepherd had the wind completely taken out of her sails from the same incident. That was a very clever bit of writing by the way. The game drew me in, made me care, made me want to listen to all off the ambient conversations. It really made me feel like I was in the midst of a terrifying galactic conflict. It was epic. And that is why I am so conflicted over the ending.

It's been said in many a post, but the ending doesn't feel like the ending we earned going through this journey. Having gone though literal hell to save the galaxy, it seriously feels like a massive let down not to have earned at least one "good" ending. The symbiosis ending is the closest I would call to a good ending, as I did enjoy Joker and Edi's relationship development and seeing them end up together did make me smile. But that is the only thing good about any of the 3 paragon endings.

Then there are the plot issues with the ending. With all of the mass relays destroyed regardless which ending you pick, what happens to all of the races from the various fleets that are now stranded around Earth? Turians and Quarians can't survive on Earth at all, and it would be thousands, if not tens of thousands of light years for them to travel to the nearest habitable planets for them. That and any thought of the galactic brotherhood surviving that I worked so hard to create with all of my efforts, would quickly go out the window once you had numerous different races all struggling for survival on the limited resources of a ravaged Earth.

I worked my butt off over the course of 3 games, stemming the reapers at every tide, trying to make the good and moral choices, so that I could build a massive galactic alliance for the final game. I've spent 3 games trying to save the galaxy and Earth. My reward for all of that effort is watching the entirety of galactic society and infrastructure be destroyed, and my crew who stuck with me through Armageddon in 3 games, suddenly abandon me and fly off into space to be marooned on some God forsaken planet. My "choices" to get to that end, are choosing between dying, dying, or dying, while sending out a blue ball of light, a red ball of light, or a green ball of light throughout the galaxy that will negate everything I fought for regardless the choices I made through 3 games.

All 3 games, to include ME3 were so good, drawing me in and making me care about the choices I made through all 3 games, trying to get to the ultimate ending, only to find there isn't one. The ending is so out of character for the rest of the series, it feels like it doesn't belong to this series at all. Where are my real choices? Why aren't my choices through 3 games actually being reflected in the ending? Why aren't my choices making a difference? Why on Earth can't we simply shut the damned reapers down and leave the Geth and Edi alone??? I'd even take the existing choices and endings if there was one that incorporated keeping the relays and the damned galactic society I worked so hard to bring together and save.

The way ME3 ended the series to me was like watching an outstanding back and forth football game, keeping you on the edge of your seat for all 4 quarters. Your team gets the ball back on the far end of the field with 45 seconds left, and they are only down by one point. The quarterback orchestrates an outstanding and unlikley drive against the odds to get his team down to the 17 yard line with 3 seconds left. No time for another shot for a touch down, but a field goal will win the game. You're elated. It's in the bag. Your team has as good as won, because it's a short easy to make field goal and the other team won't have time to score again. All the kicker has to do is put that short field goal between the goal posts and you're going to win the championship. The ball is snapped, the quarterback places it, the kicker connects.... and it's wide right and you lost. Pack up your stuff and go home. That turn of events makes what was an outstanding and very fun football game throughout, a complete and utter let down at the last gasp, that you'd just as soon forget.

I don't want to forget Mass Effect. I'm emotionally vested and I love the series, and I want to remember it with joy and elation years from now. I want others to discover and enjoy the series as much as I have. As it stands with this ending though, I'm afraid it's all going to end up like that football game. Leaving a sour taste of what could have been, and a forgotten title that had so much more potential, lying in the bargain bin. Mass Effect was an outstanding series based on choices. Please give us the choice of an outstanding ending too!

Rating without ending- 10 out of 10
Rating with ending- 7.9 out of 10

I've had about a week or so to process the game, and I have come to a very similar conclusion as everyone else. The game was a success until the end, which let many of us down because of its change in tone, style, and substance (or lack thereof).

After thinking about it for a while, I can only discuss the ending as such: Monty Effect 3

Catalyst: Stop! What is your name?
Shepard: Sir Shepard of the Alliance.
Catalyst: What is your quest?
Shepard: I seek to stop the Reapers.
Catalyst: What is your favorite color?
Shepard: Blue. No, gree--- Auuuuuuuuugh!

Hello. I finished ME3 on the PC, and have to say it was quite fun. I guess my score would be: 95/100
And yes, I do have some questions about the ending, but no, I am not angry about them.

First of all, to the good stuff.

Cinematics:
The cutscenes and the animations in this game blew me away at it's quality especially during dogfight scenes. Any really, but to pick would be the geth-quarian dogfighting scene. It's way better than ME2 and obviously ME. It was really epic and fluid. It really gave sense to the epic scale of the war. I really liked it. Everytime those epic cutscenes would play out I would say "hot damn!" because, well, I was really impressed.

Animations: More on the animations, did I say how much of an improvement it was from the previous installments? Because it was. It made each NPCs and Shepard especially more believable in the universe. And I also saw how you made Shepard's smile less creepy. The one animation that really stood out to me was when confronting Wrex about destroying Maelon's data at Sur'kesh, and he gave me one side way look at Shepard in a threatening way. It was pretty scary when I encountered it. Felt the hurt in frienship betwen Shep and Wrex. ^^

The bromance/sismance: These are one of the many moments I remember most about the game. It was nice to spend time with those characters in that kind of setting, also their actions fitting within their character. Such as Garrus blowing off steam by shooting and Liara sharing a quiet moment with a gift.

Story: I thought it was well paced. Of course some say it was a bit linear in regards to the main story considering ME and ME2 let the player choose many other main quests to pursue. Still well paced to me. I liked the overall story. And funny quips about "calibrations" and those in-side jokes the fans have come up with, were funny. I guess playing previous ME games really added to the emotional punch for the story in ME3 is really engaging and emotional. I didn't cry my eyes out, but I would be lying if I didn't say I didn't choke up a few times.

Gameplay: A huge improvement over ME2 and I like. Especially on the weight system, which I thought was well implemented. It doesn't hinder Shepard's movement, but frequency of power uses unlike previous RPGs and their weight encumberance.  And there are plenty of sleek looking guns to try out, but I really like the sniper and assault rifle. It was exciting and kickass.

Environments: They were gorgeous to look at, even the ruins of many. Too bad I didn't have a high-end graphics card when I played it because I sure would have looked at the entire game with all the stuff on. It was really beautiful. My favorite was Tuchanka because I guess it reminded me of the Incans(?) and also the Asari (the Arkdat-Yakshi Monastary side mission). Cool. Oh, and I also liked how practically everything was blue (the lens flare, the dialogue wheel...) reminded me of the Alliance and Earth of the endgame.

Acting: Seriously, good acting is good acting. They made me really believe about the universe and story of ME3. All the VAs did an awesome job. But special kudos to Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer because they are the voice of Commander Shepard over these long years. The actors have really brought their game here.

Audio / Music: Those guns sounded unique! Also loved the synth brought back. Nostalgia back to ME. Great soundtrack and great audio effects. I really like the echo when the heat sink drops and my favorite OSTs would be 'Mars' and 'A Future for the Krogan.' Maybe it was my sound set-up, but the overall audio was little too quiet with all of my sound up high and all, but the overall quality and it's subtle effects were not missed.

James Vega and Jacob: Thanks for making the human characters more interesting. It was fun having James onboard the Normandy. It adds to the human diversity among the alien knowing that there is indeed a human who is part (or whole I can't tell) hispanic. I enjoyed every word he said. Also thanks for making Jacob more interesting by making him have more balls. I didn't hate Jacob in ME2, but I was borderline apathetic toward him.

To the stuff I was iffy about.

Fetch quests: It kind of bogged down the whole "fight for the war" feeling to me. I mean it's understandable that Shep has to do all kinds of stuff to gain support, but I've done plenty of fetch quests in MMOs and other RPGs that it just doesn't feel heroic. And I think there were just too many. Even though I admit mining was a bit of a pain in ME2, I didn't really mind it. But in ME3, I did because well it was just too inconvenient to lose fuel (which I upgraded in ME2, but I guess it didn't carry over...) and avoid the reapers when I could be shooting stuff. It was fun avoiding their capture, but it got old. If it wasn't for the internet, I wouldn't have done them.

Journals: Boy, those journals are nonresponsive. And cluttered. It didn't offer me no information at all in regards to the fetch quests. But good thing the galaxy map highlights important side quests and main quests otherwise I wouldn't know where to begin. It would have been nice to separate the side quests from the main quests. And also let me read some in detail. I don't know about you guys, but journals and world maps are tools for players to navigate, and it wouldn't break immersion for me if it got little too detailed.

Cover / rolling mechanics: It was weird that whenever I tried to run forward, my Shep would roll sideways. But maybe that's just me. Sometimes the cover was just too sticky or sometimes not in some skirmishes for me.

Looting: I really did not like some of the loot placement during the game. If I'm playing a mission where my squad is being shoot at, and enjoying the gameplay, the last thing I want to think about is looting. But I see that you threw out the mini-games to open and loot. I approve because those mini-games in ME2 slowed down the flow of battle. Although it did remind me how omni-tools can do everything. If I must loot, I would want them at one, small location where it's quiet. Or NPCs telling me to loot. Because, if this was a fantasy setting I would loot immediately, but this is a third-person shooter. I want to shoot things.

Past DLCs armor / weapons: I can see how getting rid of them fits into the story, but I did pay real money for them, Bioware. Come on. At least make it easier to get them early in the game without having to run around the Citadel to find, search, and buy them at an ridiculous in-game credits beginning of the game.

Face code issue: I actually kind of laughed when I got the error. Good thing for fan-made Mass Effect Tools otherwise I would be left steaming. It wasn't really the face of my Shep from the first game, but I made it pretty close. Still would have been nice if the face could transfer over smoothly. I mean I do plan on playing the trilogy from the beginning someday and the last thing I want is a face code error. Sheploo might be handsome, but it wouldn't be my character.

Turrets: Hmm... I thought they were overused. Especially when you are suppose to shoot small husks. I would rather have shoot them against multiple brutes. The turret sequence against the Reaper? Awesome. On the side quest rescuing Admiral Koris? Awesome. But on Thessia, other small side missions, and especially on Earth when I'm saying goodbye to my crew and basking in on the atmosphere? No. Not awesome. It's a chore because for one it's slower and I would rather shoot my sniper rifle. Seriously, it wasn't fun shooting at husk on those turrets. On bigger targets, sure. Because then I don't have to worry about aiming as turrets are not about aiming and shooting accurately.

On to the ending...

I was one of those who wanted Shepard to die at the end. Thought it was fitting. I do have many questions regarding the ending. A huge one was the leap from Shepard to Joker, flying alone...somewhere and crashing to an unknown jungle planet? That left me confused. I think the cutscenes jumped the gun there. No matter how I wrap my head around that... it's just confusing to me and I can't make anything out of it. But I didn't care hugely because without Commander Shepard there really is no Mass Effect for me. Also about the kid-AI thing... I didn't really believe that NPC because 1) I didn't really quite understand the logic behind it or it didn't really offer me any answers. Just more questions. 2) It's a kid... not really the definitive figure of authority even if it could be some avatar of Shep's psyche. After Anderson and the Illusive Man... a kid?    :/

Summary:
Overall I enjoyed the game. Very much. It's not the perfect game, but I'm glad to have found the Mass Effect series to play and follow back in.... what 2009? I don't know. I didn't play the multiplayer and I don't want to because Shepard is not in it. Although I like how it's incorporated into the single-player story line. The ending was a meh for me, but the rest of the game was pretty sweet. Also good job on the send-off on the Normandy crew (Mordin, Legion, and Thane). I thought the good-byes were great since it was a goodbye to the series for that one particular Shep. Sometimes I thought you guys were trying break the fourth wall time to time.

I do plan on replaying ME3 as I have many Sheps to play and other classes to try out. But I wouldn't pull another ambiguous ending seeing as how people react. I would totally buy more story DLC if it's more about Shepard and/or her crew. But it has to involve Shepard.

P.S: Are you guys still planning to make ME into a movie? Because the cost of the movie would be sky high. Not to mention the magic of Mass Effect (guiding your own Shepard) would be lost in the silver screens.   :)

im gonna keep this short
the game is great and has the mass effect standard
but the endings are just terrible and didnt leave me with many awnsers.
mass effect has always been about choise and the ending is just a cheap shoot about creating the ilusion of choise.
and to have the chanse to come out on top despite impossible odds along with a sacrifice endig is welcome. so the next time im getting to the endings its gonna involve a bottle of faumos groose wiskey

anyway if i ignore the endings 10/10 is well deserved.

and hold the line every body

After thinking about it for a while, I can only discuss the ending as such: Monty Effect 3

Catalyst: Stop! What is your name?
Shepard: Sir Shepard of the Alliance.
Catalyst: What is your quest?
Shepard: I seek to stop the Reapers.
Catalyst: What is your favorite color?
Shepard: Blue. No, gree--- Auuuuuuuuugh!

I'm almost finished with my second playthough of mass effect, I needed time to process and colect my thoughts in order to give proper feed back. Over all the game and story are exelent I was genuanly moved in places. Seeing all the time i'd  invested over three games and an estamated 500+ hours of my life was somthing I doubt i'll see again anytiime soon.

I'm guessing  the expectations of long term players took its toll because theres some really jaring desiign choices I noticed. The first of which was not being able to recrute some of the people i wanted to for seemingly flat. arbtrerry reasons. Second the one key to rule them all (in this case the space bar) is not well thought out implamentation wise. For example There are times when i want to get in to cover quickly and end up doing a combat roll insted (usaly resulting in death) or uoi tru to use an object only to go in and out of cover like somone with adhd even when your right next to the object in question. There is no reason  for this on the pc. It's slopy.

Speaking of sloppy I have to mention the quick tiime events here, Quick time events in this game are overused and dont add the drama I guess bioware was going for. At best they are iratatting, At worst they are an example of the worst form of Consolitis. Why does sheppard move like a 120 year old man now? his combat movement with the gun out is so dam slow and its worse in most quick time events.  All these factors  took me out of the finaly crafted exp and that just sucks.

I got sucked in to mass effect for ite grit and depth not OMG AWESOME Explosions. Speaking of which I certain reaper encounter design is a good example of what not toi do. Theres no cover of any sort, the area is to dam small, It boiled down to : run around in a circle like an idiot waiting for the gient laser pointer to rechage and hope it fires before you get vaperised.

now I have to say somthing about the mp and the whole war assets meta game thing in shirt it feels required to grind the mp the stat penaltys really stack up if you dont. even if you sre a compleationist like me. It woukl have been better to have the option of asigning specal ops to missions (you had a simlar system in lotsb.

I've also ran in to a sever bug  in which my level got reset to level 4 for no aparent reason with 0 skill points. I lost 6 hours of work due to that.

while this review might read as nergitive its really not  I loved the mlot and the customisation it was really impactfull but some design elements took me away from the exp rather obruptly.

its like you have an amazing meal only to get heart burn and mild food posioning afterwords.

I loved the action, I loved the thrills, I loved the LI's (Liara 4eva), I even loved the finale up to the illusive man. What I didn't like was the ending. Not even the slightest bit happy, it felt like a punch in the stomach. Some people may claim we are just disgruntled, whiny posters who wanted a happy ending but the truth is: we all did. Why would we waste 150 hours of game-play, waiting 3-4 years... For Commander Shepard to die in ALL ENDINGS (bar 1 obscure one) and for our LI to be completely disregarded. Despite believing that the previous 149 hours and 50 minutes to the ending are probably some of the best hours you could spend playing video games in the world, I'm not going to rate this game. It's unfinished.

Hi Everyone

We now have a thread collecting the press reviews for Mass Effect 3. You can read all the reviews we collect here.

We also want to hear from you, the Mass Effect Customer. What did you think about ME3?Waht score would you give it?What were your likes? What were your dislikes? Please post in like the below:

(Start with) My Mass Effect 3 score: X/100 (where X = your score. 95, 67, 42, 6, etc)
(And then why you gave it that score) I really liked/disliked ME3 and here is why.....

what do i think about Mass Effect 3?
Answer: Personally i really had a great time playing it! if i were one of the Judges on the VGA (Video Gaming Awards) i would pick Mass Effect 3 for the Game of the Year. BUT unfortunatly i have to change my mind and give it to someone else since the last 10 minutes of the game was HORRIBLE.

Lets talk about the combat! i will give you a 100 points for this! :o
im actually on my second playthrough (insane!) the combat is incredible! Its been a while that i have to spend hours to finish the mission and it felt really good. for that i would like to congratulate you guys for a job well done! B)

Story: I will give you a 15% on this. (due to some issues lacking on the game content.)

1.) Palaven (moon) that experience was GREAT! the issue there was some players want to see what happened to the moon after sheppard left palaven moon since Garrus mentioned to Shepard that "with out the primarch they have a less of a chance to keep the outpost."WE WANT TO SEE THAT (where shepard had to meet with Garrus and get some politician

1.1.) Palaven (Main Planet) What happened to palaven before the Krogans helped? and after?
So Wrex helped the primarck and sent some krogans. so what? WE NEED TO SEE what happened? there is no point helping them and we dont see the effects on it.

2.)  Geth and Quarians - What a fantastic story! i have to admit even my mom cried after finishing this mission (My mom is a big fan of Sci-fi! forgot to say thank you! because of this game my mom is actually playing the mass effect series! how cool is that! my mom hates computer games but because of the story involved in this she has no chioce but to play the whole series. told her that the ENDING SUCKS. AND YOUR GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED. Gave her a heads up!)

3.) Genophage: Again a fantastic Story. 5% on that

4.) Love interest and romance. I will GIVE you a 50% on this one. Since the rommance on Miranda(Yvonne Strahovsky:O) is not as good. (yes you can call me a perv but even my GF was saying. where is the skin?. Liara showed some, Ashley showed some (nice lingerie BTW on ashley gf loved it... want to buy one according to her! thanks!) all kiddn asside please improve the miranda's side.

5.) ENDING (HERE WE GO! :()

this is the part you guys are going to FAIL so hard that you will not win the game of the year award if you dont fix this!(im sorry for the harsh words but  this is the only way for you guys to wake up and do something about it.)
i was so dissapointed the moment Bioware did not won the Game of the Year on VGA i think the winner was red redemption somthing. (dont play consoles.)

things which are lacking.

1.) FREEDOM TO CHOOSE: Really i dont mind shepard dying! i wanted to see that, BUT what happened was you DID NOT GIVE US A CHOICE?!  also why would you destroy the mass relay? really! after saving the earth all of those alliens on out system are STUCK because the relays are destroyed whats the point of saving the krogans on the genophage? peace between geth and quarians? It really does not make sense!

2.)I feel in love on the game because of the decision making on the game; which it will affect you on the following games. I did not see that in the game.

2.1) rachni - okay i saved the queen on mass effect 1 and 3.. i did not even had the chance to see them in action fighting againts the reapers. side-by-side with the orther races. REALLY! <_<

2.3) what happpened to your war assets? are they just for the numbers i have not seen any vorcha running around like an idiot there! have not seen the SPECTERS in action! (after the kasumi mission) i would love to see the elites fighting the reapers. (its like Eli Manning beating up Tom Brady (sorry NY GIANT FAN))

3.) read the forum! every page!!!!! i know im missing something but im at work slacking off and i have to go.

thanks and i hope you guys will LISTEN to us.

P.S. - on the DLC: from the ashes. no comment got the collectors edition! :D

The game was generally fantastic throughout. I only had an issue with the cover system as sometime it'd be buggy and not work right. Combine that with every non-combat interaction tied to a single key on PC and this caused some issues. I also had the game bug out and crash numerous times as well as randomly slow down and chug later on in the game. Also while the multiplayer is strong it lacks proper communication tools and the ability to switch a private game into a public so you can ensure you at least get your friends in the game.

The disappointments:

Endings - By far the biggest. I agree with a friend of mine that an ambiguous ending is fine. But such an ending only works if it makes sense logically enough to understand it without giving away enough information to keep people guessing. Also it has to fit into the established story without breaking anything previously written or inferred.

So let's start with horrible reaper logic, I'll put it in Xzibit form:
"Yo dawg I heard you don't like to be killed by synthetics! So I made synthetics to kill you every 50,000 years so you won't be killed by synthetics!"
So not only is that what might possibly become on of the worst statements in gaming it's made all the worse by a literal Deus ex machina in the form of the "catalyst."

Next is Shepard's complete lack of will. This is a character who had stood defiant of the reapers. Everything they ever say he's doubted and fought against. Then suddenly at the end he just lays back and accepts everything the catalyst says without argument? This is such a reversal of his character that it makes no sense. Especially given if you united the Quarian and the Geth and made peace you have an immediate retort against the logic used by the catalyst.

Next is the fact that Bioware has been quoted to say these:
- “There are many different endings. We wouldn’t do it any other way. How
could you go through all three campaigns playing as your Shepard and
then be forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets? But I can’t say
any more than that…”
- “Whether you’re happy or angry at the ending, know this: it is an
ending. BioWare will not do a “Lost” and leave fans with more questions
than answers after finishing the game.”
- “I honestly think the player base is going to be really happy with the
way we’ve done it. You had a part in it. Every decision you’ve made will
impact how things go. The player’s also the architect of what happens.”
- “Yeah, and I’d say much more so, because we have the ability to
build the endings out in a way that we don’t have to worry about
eventually tying them back together somewhere. This story arc is
coming to an end with this game. That means the endings can be a lot
more different. At this point we’re taking into account so many
decisions that you’ve made as a player and reflecting a lot of that
stuff. It’s not even in any way like the traditional game endings,
where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got
ending A, B, or C.....The endings have a lot more sophistication and
variety in them.”

So given those quotes, what happened? How did we go from endings based on our choices to being forced to ending A, B or C? We want to know why this sudden change. Not to mention the holes in the ending cinematic, like how Joker is flying through a mass relay even though it exploded. How the people fighting with you on the ground somehow got on board the Normandy. A lot of stuff in the ending just doesn't add up.

Aside from that it's all about closure. What happened to the crew afterwards. What happened to all of our allies. If we allowed the Krogan to be cured of the genophage what happens to them. How does everyone react to the loss of the relays? Instead we just got more questions. Also, I wanted a cut scene of Krogan riding dinosaurs fighting giant space robots. Seriously, how can you add that into a game and NOT make a cut scene out of it.

And finally. In the ending cinematic, you see Joker, Anderson and your Love Interest. Except if your love interest isn't either Ashley, Kaiden or Liara in which case it defaults to Liara further re-enforcing the notion that you (Bioware) completely ignored the players choice along the way and destroyed 60-90 hours of invested play time on all games inside of 10 minutes.

Tali's face - honestly I was shocked by you altering a stock photo with Photoshop instead of contacting any of the amazing artists on Deviant art who have posted amazing fan artwork of what Tali could possibly look like without the mask. I would have been 100% okay without seeing her face in the game (I was disappointed but I understood) and then have that image thrust on me. Well it was insulting really. It meant that you stopped caring and didn't want to try.

Harbinger & the reapers - Seriously where was he? He was the main antagonist of the second game. You spoke with him at the end of the arrival DLC. He's the oldest and biggest reaper. We all thought we'd have a showdown with him. Instead we fight (2) destroyer class reapers. That's it, in the entire time spent playing the game you only ever fight 2 reapers. This was a let down, and the more I think on it the worse I feel. It's not that the game is bad, it's amazing but it feels like a giant flaw the more I think on it.

Overall the game was amazing throughout. You had fantastic writing, emotional sequences, and thought provoking decisions. Then you ended it in what can possibly be called the worst endings ever to a video game. Not because the ending in itself is terrible. But because you told the fans one thing, then did another which made no sense in relation to the story. I sincerely hope you listen to our anger and change the ending to something that makes sense within the realm of the story.

I do thank you for the journey as it's worth taking, even if the ending wasn't satisfactory. As for my score I have made multiple comments on it but given the various scores I'll post it below:

3.8/5
7.6/10
79/100

First of all I would like to apologize to all my readers for the delay. I know, I know - few days turned into one week. You have to excuse me for not writing anything for such a long period of time but I kind of lost contact with reality while I was playing through the final game of this amazing trilogy created by BioWare called Mass Effect. Yup, this is it - the final game with Commander Shepard was officially released just few days ago! After so many years we will finally be able to find out about the final fate of this amazing character and the whole humanity! And things are looking grim because no human ever faced such a diabolic enemy - THE REAPERS ARE BACK AND FULL IN STRENGTH! I know that this blog is supposed to be only about Star Wars related stuff but from time to time I will make some exceptions and Mass Effect is such an exception. Sorry for that! So if you don't care just ignore this entry and stay tuned for the next one that will arrive very, very soon. Still, if you like Star Wars franchise you should totally check out Mass Effect if you haven't by now!

So enjoy this short, lore focused review but beware - THERE ARE SOME MAJOR SPOILERS IN IT because I will be mainly discussing the controversial ending of Mass Effect 3 which was not so well received by all fans out there (there is A LOT of controversy going on around it right now).

RPG or shooter with RPG elements?

In the very beginning, before you even start the game you are able to choose between 3 different game modes - the action mode, classic RPG mode or the story mode. I am not sure how exactly the first one and the last one look. The acton mode is supposed to be mainly focused on the actual gameplay and less on the story. I am guessing that you just don't make any choices and simply watch cinematics with "canon" Shepard. Though as I said I am not sure and I may be wrong about that. classic RPG mode is as the name suggests - classic. Both the normal gameplay and the full story will all potential choices are included. As for the story mode - it is supposed to be focusing on only story and is making combat much, much easier. I don't recommend choosing it unless you are a complete casual for whom pressing more then one button at the time is serious problem. It just removes any challenge from the game thus making it boring tbh and less entertaining. Just pick normal difficulty and you should be fine.

The gameplay is dynamic and feels more like an interactive movie. It's great! I know that Mass Effect 3 decided to take a path of "shooter with RPG elements" rather than of classic RPG game. Actually I am fine with that. I find aiming to be more interesting and most importantly fun than just simply clicking one button at your enemy and choosing sequences of attacks.

What I am not fine with is the way BioWare decided to deal with RPG elements. There are even less of them than in previous games. As an example: you can't choose what armor you wear anymore. Well ok, you can, but only for your character and it still is kind of strange and limited. Your companions are not able to wear variety of armors any more, only the default one. Why? I loved how you could customize your equipment in KotOR for example. I just don't understand why BioWare moved away from that. Don't make games easier and less complex, it's not always the right thing to do!

The Art of War.

Game looks fantastic even on not so fresh Unreal Engine 3. And its optimization is something to behold. My computer is pretty old and I was able to play Mass Effect on highest details without even
slightest problems. No crashes, no drops in fps - nothing. Game ran smoothly all the time till the very end. As for soundtrack - well, what is there to say. Badass. Epic. As it is always the case with BioWare games, music and
voice acting are top notch. Playing this game feels like watching an awesome movie.

MASSive and epic momentum of storyline.

Now the most important part of the game to majority of players - the story. I won't tell you much (only about the ending that I will be discussing later on so If you didn't play the game yet get out!) because I don't want to spoil anything. The storyline is EPIC, from the start till the very end you will feel completly emerged in the Mass Effect universe. Once again BioWare did an outstanding job. There are more than few players who claim the game to be great until the last 15 minutes of it. Well, I just simply do not understand why - I personally loved the ending and I think that BioWare did amazing job with it. One great thing about Mass Effect series that was always there in previous games is the mysterious story. Even after you finished the game and found out about few things, there were more new questions arising that were left unanswered and kept player in even greater suspense. Same thing happened here yet we can all see that this is definite, final ending of the trilogy. Kudos BioWare. Kudos.

Or is it final? There are countless discussions going on all over the internet about the Mass Effect 3 ending. Thus as a result many people came up with some more or less ridiculous conspiracy theories. BUT there is one such theory or rather speculation that is more than interesting and surprisingly... logical. Check it out over at: http://social.biowar...-9727423-1.html WARNING: HUGE SPOILERS!

So as the author stated in his theory, the whole ending was supposed to be a hallucination. Shepard was supposingly indoctrinated by the reapers throughout the whole thing in order to be tricked thus preventing him from winning. Last resort act by the old machines. Well... what do you think? Is it possible or is it just attempt by desperate fan to deny the tragic but still great finale of the series. At first I thought that this theory is as ridiculous as all others even if it makes sense (at least partly) but then some another rumor appeared on the web that linked with this theory. You can read more about it over at: http://www.gamefront...h-due-in-april/

I guess we will find out if this is really the truth in April... Though as I said, I liked the ending and I would not mind at all if it remained the way it is. Don't get your hopes up, it is still just a rumor and nothing more than an uncertain 'leak'.

United we stand.

Multiplayer is surprisingly very good, addictive and time consuming as any online game should be. If you want to unlock EVERYTHING there is you will have to spend many, many hours playing the game. And with all the RNG present it may take you even up to thousands of hours - nice way to let fans enjoy Mass Effect even after replaying through the game 3 or more times. Though there is no story per say in multiplayer, just shooting huge waves of enemies. ;) While gameplay itself of the multiplayer mode is rather decent and fun, there is something about it that made me stop playing it immidietly until the matter is sorted: the gear and unlockables that you obtain by playing just simply vanish for some players. Just like that... after you complete a match. It is beyond me how they managed to let such bug be present in the retail version of the game. I would understand if they found out about it just recently but the funny thing is that they knew about this bug since beta/demo versions. People who bought BioWare points for real money and unlocked DLC/multiplayer gear lost EVERYTHING and WERE STILL NOT GIVEN ANY REFUND. BioWare stated that there is nothing they can do about it for now and that all players have to be patient while issue is being investigated and hopefully... resolved. One week passed and there was no response at all. I myself lost about 50 specter packs that are equal to A LOT of credits, my free time, BioWare points and even real money. While BioWare games are more than great, its customer support is somewhat... lacking to put it nicely. I believe that our beloved company was indoctrinated by rEApers...

Duty calls.

To conclude: I can recommend this game to anyone - if you are fan of RPG and BioWare games you will not be disappointed despite what some people say. Even if you did not play any of the Mass Effect games, you will still be able to find out what is going on pretty quickly and get familiar with the general lore of the game. Though I encourage you to play previous two games if you haven't by now. And if you are a fan of the Masss Effect series, not buying this game is equal to sin and will cause you to end up in hell. I am dead serious, make sure that you get this game and play it!

Pros +
- EPIC storyline.
- AI of enemies.
- Choices made (also in the previous games) actually matter.
- Return of almost all characters from previous games.
- Audio-visual aspect of the game is top notch.

Cons -
- Bugs (for example vanishing gear in multiplayer though some people may not even care about that).
- AI of your companions.
- Too short!
- Too much shooting and not enough of RPG elements (not bad thing for everyone I guess).

Overall rating: 9.5/10

My Mass Effect score is 98, because the game is an Absolute, Fantastic achievement in RPG Storytelling. It beats even my expectations of it and really makes me regret not playing mass effect 1 until around the time mass effect 2 came out. The only reason I didn't give a perfect 100 is because the ending raises more questions and too many plot holes for me to overlook, I know Casey explained that some mystery is good for the series but the ending of the game goes too far. And ultimately shreds the experience at the end leavings us feeling dry after 25-30hours of game play (not including me1 + me2). Other than the ending, thank you so much for the Mass Effect trilogy BioWare, you are masters (inventors) of character driven action RPG's <3
