I give it 90/100.
Likes
- Character interaction. Crew members having their own lifes and were incredibly well written, amusing banter always felt refreshing
- EDI as squad member
- Dream sequences, but short cut scenes would have sufficed
- Great story telling and very emotional scenes
- Area design
- Soundtrack
- Decisions have impact (except for at the end of the game)
- Gameplay, challenging combat, weapons and weapon customization
- Shooting Udina, finally
Dislikes
- Controls were sometimes clunky - e.g. taking cover and getting up again, changing weapons takes just too long for a shooter, getting stuck at climbing down ladders
- The end left open questions for me. I personally do not mind that there was no real choice for a happy end or a controversial end to the series, but this end felt a bit rushed and incomplete
- No new LI for straight female players - why not James Vega?
- The beginning was too much action and too little story
- Face movements sometimes looked a bit plastic in cut scenes
- Scanning
- Navigation - the lack of maps sometimes left me puzzled about where to go and I had to run through places several time before I found out where to go
- Auto dialogue

Repeating what EVERYONE else is saying: awesomest game until the ending.
I liked the ending up to the point when Shepard gets lifted up. It's really powerful moment, when hero's sense of duty, honour and love is finally overcome by mortality and loss. The scene with Anderson is particularly touching.
The conversation with the Catalyst could have been awesome, were it not for the plot holes and the general deus ex machina feeling. Also, no Harbinger.
I really liked the three ambiguous choices being given to me, but hated the identical outcomes. The Space Magic thing was really BS.
What made my fly to the forums instantly is the Normandy flying away for absolutely no reason and the fact that whatever I did ruined the galaxy for thousands of years.
Thank you Bioware, you ruined a perfect trilogy last 5 years with just five minutes of silent cutscene!
That sums it up nicely. Great ride all the way until the end. With that rushed ending I would give the game 84/100. With better ending score would be 90+ easily, provided that the "new" ending would be free.

To me it's more like if the novell stopped at the point when the ring is floating on the lava and it's inscription is lighting up... And then - the end... That's more how it felt with ME3s 'ending'.It didn't provide any answers. It would be like ending Lord of the Rings the moment the ring is thrown in to the pit and the tower of Sauron fell.

In short the whole game is about what kinds of decision would you make if they all sucked.....It was just plain Brilliant.

(If you fix all technical bugs, it will be 100/100)
Great game with great story.
I can only recommend it.
If you are sci-fi fan and if you are ready to solve moral questions, its game for you.
Pros+
- Great story.
- Great ending!!!!!! <3
- Perfectly written characters.
- Choices from previous ME games affect story in ME3.
- You are pulled to the story and it can become very emotional (sorrow, fear, hope, ...). Great experience. Like living the story.
- Universe mythology and presentation.
- Nothing is black and white (Illusive man, Reapers, ...).
- You have to really think about your choices and consequences, not only choose A or B. You have to LIVE THE STORY, not only play it. Thats only way how you can enjoy that great ending. You have to connect all dots to see a bigger picture. In my case, everything led to that point and i would choose same ending, even if there were more options.
- Probably biggest problem of the game is same as one of its biggest Pros: You have to LIVE THE STORY, not only play it. You have to connect all dots to see a bigger picture. Thats only way how you can enjoy that great ending.
Technical problems like: - Old engine/graphics (not sure if its actually Con, because thanks to this is universe similar in ME1, 2 and 3).
- Engine performance issues (dropping framerate on PS3).
- Minimal AI of oponents.
- FemShep animation (causual outfit).
- Technical bugs mostly in ingame animations (missing textures, wrong facing of characters - talking to the wall, collision system, ...)
- Last scene from ending (with Normandy flying somewhere with everyone on board) doesn't make sense, need to be explained or fixed.

I - Story (Ending aside) 5 out of 5
Right out the park, I have to say, the story is not what I expected, which is both good and bad. I think the only problem I had with the story, (Other than the ending, but we will get to that) is the fact that everyone from ME2, seperated, and went thier own way. I dont understand this, especially if, like me, all of them were "loyal" and survived the suicide mission. My hope, expectation, was that Shepard would have had them all act as his "agents" if you will. Giving them each missions that would have helped prepare for the coming of the Reapers.
That aside, I think that the way everything unfolded was fantastic, I loved the journey Shepard was brought on throughout the game. My favorite being Tuchanka. What an awesome way to say goodbye to Mordin, to help Wrex, and unite two races that have been at war for so long. By far the best storyline I played in any ME game. I did like seeing all my ME2 friends pop up throghout the game. The way they integratred into the story was fun, and enjoyable.
II - Gameplay - 4 out of 5
I think the gameplay was good, I was one who was upset that the holstering was removed. Still am. Playing through the From Ashes DLC, wondering around Eden Prime with my gun drawn before any enemies are ven there, not being able to look around and take in the site crapped on the expirience. Same goes for Tuchanka, how cool it would have been to really look around like I could from ME or ME2. Also, grenades, whatever happened to the cool hovering grenades from ME1? Miss those, seems like the ME3 grenades regressed tech wise.
Everything else was fun, I didnt think the Omniblade was a worthwhile addition, I did use, it, but being a soldier, I kept my distance and shot things, no need for me to be close to many of the enemies. Maybe this coudl have been an optional powerset? Who knows?
III - Tie Ins and DLC 5 out of 5
I purchased the N7 CE so I woudl have got the DLC day one no matter what. I think it was an awesome addition, and very well done. I am not against day 1 DLC, it doesnt bug me at all. Javik was an awesome addition to my crew, my second playthrough was fun to bring Ashley and listen to her talk about Eden Prime. Liaras reaction to what the Protheans really were, was classic, some great revelations and stroytelling.
ME3 Datapad - Hooray for this, what an awesome way to take ME with you. Not only do I get emials from my crew as I complee checkpoints in the game, I can play Galaxy at War anytime I want, and improve my readiness rating. By far the coolest tie in, and done very smoothly IMO!
Infiltrator - Have not finished the game yet, 2 levels to go, but WOW. BEAUTIFUL. And again, being able to effect my ME3 game by uploading data, to improve my readiness rating, awesome.
IV -Multiplayer - 3 out of 5
I am not sold on this yet. I have played, and I like it, but it seems like a lot of work for a little reward. Not a fan of people booting either, when I first started, I coudl not get into any games becasue I was level one. Finally some people allowed me to stay and I was able to level up. I think the only reason I dont like this is it seems to drag on in some cases. I think I need to invest a little more time to make my decision final, but I am not a huge fan.
V - The Ending - 0 out of 5 stars
Pretty ruthless huh. I am not a fan of the endings in any way, shape, or form. I will try and break it down.
Control - This ending contradicts everything that the little star child boy tells Shepard, essentially, the boy says that AI's\\or synthentics canot be controlled, they will always rebel against the creators and whipe them out, or something down those lines. So why am I to to think that me, trying to control AI's will turn out any different? I give my life to control the reapers, then they rebel against me, and kill everything in their path. Yup, that makes sense. Big fail here.
Synthesis - This one seems to make more sense than the others, but I dont like it at all. It forces a choice on everyone in the galaxy, sorry, you dont have a choice, now you are part synthetic, and part human, krogan, salarian, etc. This takes away individual choice from everyone in the galaxy, they are forced to evolve. Doesnt make sense when Shepard is telling everyone, especially AI's that they have a choice on what they want to be, how they want to act. But now, I am going to take all that away from you, I lied, sorry.
Destroy - What woudl seem like the "best" choice, is in fact death to everything Shepard stands for. Did he defeat the reapers, yes, but he did it sacrificing the geth, Edi, and every other race dependant on the relays. Simply put, Shepard, woudl not have stood for this. This decision woudl not have been good enough for him, based on his actions throughout the game, he woudl nto have done this.
Simply put, Shepard, woudl have found another way. He woudl not have submitted to three choices, each one tearing out his humanity and everything he stood for. I woudl not be upset if Shepard died, but in all thess endings, he dided for nothing, he stood for nothing.
One thing that irked me even before I was abel to "Choose" my ending, was the fact that Shepard got blasted with a Reaper beam, laser thing. AND SURVIVED. Even if it was by the skin of his teeth, i dont see how he could have came close to surviving that. This Reaper laser that cut through ships like butter, that blew up a battleship, and it came from one of the most powerful reapers around, just messed with Shepards armor and bloodied him up really bad. Sorry, doesnt fit.
All in all, the game gets a 2 out of 5 for me, if I consider the endings. Endings aside, perfect 5 out of 5. Loved the game, had fun, still having fun, but I despise the endings. I am sure that any DLC will in fact change the endings, seeing as though DLC will effect your readiness rating like From Ashes did, so if anything you will see Shepard breath at the end. So the ending will be effect in the long run I am sure. If a DLC comes out that changes the choices, then so be it, I will accept it then.
Thanks Bioware for a fun game, but please, the endings, argh.

Gameplay 4/5
Story(ending aside) 5/5
Multiplayer 4/5
Ending 2/5
I think I should explain how I feel on the ending. I only chose one, synergy, and while I thought it was OK and I didn't hate it, it wasn't that great either. I would have prefered a happier ending. One that didn't involve the Mass Relays being destroyed, the Normandy being stranded, and me having to choose synergy simply because it was the least depressing/crap ending.
Oh, and there really should have been a better epilogue. I mean honestly.

Start of the Game gets a 4.
Was great but if you had a little Storyteller giving us the update to what happened between ME2 ending to the start of the Game it would have been a 5.
Graphiks was a 4, a few weird things spoiled the perfect score.
Battlesystem gets a 5, simply Fantastic.
Story i give a 3. I think the Game was way too short and too much focused on Cerberus. I kind of thought after the Mission on the Cerberus HQ that now the actual War is starting. A bit of a letdown there.
There were some truly epic moments there, but still too short of a Game.
The Ending(s) gets a 0.
It just made no sense to me, 1st that Casper thing, Shep suddenly with his undys(?) Armor on?
In Arrival you made pretty clear that the Relay destruction blows up pretty much the whole system there are in, so to me the end is sort of the destruction of life in the Universe.
I also dont like that there is no diffrent Choices in the Endings like you did in DA:O and i really dont like those forced on me depressing endings. ME untill the end was a Battle for Life and a celebration of it but your ending kind of celebrates Death. Not a Fan and not happy about it.
Overall score is a 3 for me.
Having sayd that, i will stop my support of pre-purchases for your Company. I'm one of those more 'passionate' Fans of yours, having spend 75 Euros for the Game 8 months prior to release(like thousands of other 'passionate' Fans ) , those Forums had been talking a loooong time before the release date announcement what people would have liked to see, be it blue Babys or Shep starting a Dancing shool with Jack (ok i made this one up), but still, all we got was Death. After all those choices to embrace all forms of life, be it curing the Genophage, making peace between the Quarians and the Geth, giving the Rachni a 2nd and 3rd chance....in the end, YOUR end, all does down the Drain.
It was a good Game that was spoiled.

To break it down:
- 3 points lost for graphical issues that really shouldn't be seen in a AAA title in this day and age - I mean sprites? Jeebus. ME2 suffered from this as well, but I digress. Muddy textures elsewhere are also jarring given how awesome, for example, facial detail is. A severe lack of detail on landscapes (like water) and scenery also robs many scenes (such as Javik's revival or the Reaper's landing on Earth) of their visual power. Animations could also be better at times. I blame consoles for most of this, but it also feels lazy...or rushed.
- 3 points lost for bugs, like getting stuck after talking with Joker/EDI, repeatedly - it's a really obvious bug that shouldn't have been missed. Another bad one is the freeze on the 'From Ashes' DLC, doing the lab points in the wrong order is grounds for a complete lockup. Another glaring issues was the inability to import your Shep's face upon launch. Not impressed.
- 1 point lost for clumsy dialogue in places - and when dialogue conveys 95% of the plot and character development this is important to get right. For example, I cringed in the prologue when Shep delivered his
'fight or die' ultimatum, but your mileage may vary. - 1 point lost for various niggling gameplay issues. Cover is just a bit too sticky, massive difficulty spikes, questing issues, etc.
- 5 points off for, really, not having many of your 'big' choices reflected much in the game. Eg. the Rachni are a token addition to the Crucible, and appear only as an enemy otherwise...and appear regardless of
your decision in the first game. Oh, and how can I forget - saving the collector base nets you a total of 10 War Assets extra, at the expense of the respect of your crew, and Cerberus hates you anyway.
Ouch. There are many, many more. There are also examples to the contrary - the Genophage data is crucial, Tali and Legion being needed to secure peace between the Geth is another, Thane's intervention - but it is clear that in many cases your choices were deliberately constrained, the question is why? - In relation to the above, 1 point off for some characters simply never returning, or dying offscreen (Emily Wong, Kal'Reegar - where is Gianna Parasini?), which is lame. It also severely annoys me that I got Diane Allers as my propagandist rather than Emily Wong. You gave me back Chakwas, why not her?
- 1 point off for having many of your fellow suicide mission survivors whisked away from your squad by a writer's pen, and little else. Samara blames her code, Jack wants to look after her students, Jacob is hooked up, Kasumi is too wary, Zaeed is...? Etc. The amount of War Assets they're worth, by the way, is pitiful, and should have been utilized to really drive a wedge between those who did well in ME2 and those who didn't by punishing the latter for their failure.
- 1 point off for having Tali take off her mask a second time and still leaving us with no clue as to what she looks like unless you romanced her and so on. It was a real kick in the nuts, even if you did romance her - a shopped stock photo? Come on. If she dies, Garrus laments that he'll never lay eyes on the 'angel' underneath that mask, the least that could have been done was to reward three games worth of patience with a proper 3D modelling of her face.
- 2 points off for ensuring that you must play multiplayer to get over the 4k EMS mark, and I'm being generous seeing as how a 50% penalty was constantly staring me in the face because I didn't want to interrupt my playthrough to grind Readiness online.
- 1 point off for skipping over mission-based anomalies. Skipped so many opportunities for us to visit major planets in the ME universe, and recovering immensely important artefacts for various races, at the very least, should have been given their own missions.
- Finally, 8 points off for the ending, which for me begins at the end of the Cerberus HQ mission with the statement 'the Reapers have captured the Citadel...and moved it to Earth.' By now, I really shouldn't have to explain why, but to boil it down to its essence - no closure. After 5 years (more if you count pre-ME1 anticipation) and 3 games, no closure. For all of the previous game's flaws, you cannot say they did not end appropriately. In what is arguably the most important game of the series, you gaffed the ending. This is simply unacceptable, and I assigned a heavy penalty accordingly.
I love the Mass Effect series, but as it is with those you love, you need to be honest, and I have done my best to be objective in my assessment of the game in light of its predecessors. Not all the things listed are faults
limited to ME3, as I intimated in the first point. The good things about this game are almost too numerous to mention, and it is utterly clear that a great deal of love and effort has been poured into this instalment - for that I salute all who have been involved, and worked hard to bring it to life.
Ultimately, however, it is obvious something went wrong, very wrong, when it came to deciding how the game would wrap up its narrative. This, notably, is not something that Bioware is known for - Throne of Bhaal, Jade Empire, Dragon Age: Origins, KOTOR, and many more besides all had solid endings. In contrast ME3's ending is jarring, for reasons that have been given exhaustive detail elsewhere. In short, the player is suddenly powerless to challenge or change his/her destiny, and we are all left hanging when the credits roll.
Please, as a fan who has been with you since the heady days of BG2, do all that you can to listen to your fanbase and rectify the ending accordingly.

It was awful
The Crucible and Starchild ruined the games.
Awful ending, so bad I can't even write anything about the awesome events that took place before that.
I only got one ending, each time with a different color.
Bioware should of stuck to the original plot and made it so there was multpile endings and a good ending and bad endings not just "happy endings" and "Sad endings" and "Ok whatever endings"
Marauder Shields tried to hold us back from the disappointment that laid ahead

Excellent soundtrack.
Excellent voice work.
Good, not great graphics. Some areas better than others.
Combat is much better than ME1 & ME2.
Weapons and upgrades better than ME2 and not as cluttered as ME1.
The story was great and really complimented ME2. Definitely rewarded you for keeping all of your people alive during suicide mission. Would have loved to see more story from ME2 crew mates but understand the restrictions since any of them could have died. It was great to see a lot of the call backs to ME1 and ME2. Loved missions with Thane, Samara, Mordin and Miranda. Actually I loved misisons with Jack and even Jacob. Jack was really a standout in this story for the little time she received. There were just too many great moments in the game to list them all. Thane's letter, Grunt's stand, Mordin's sacrifice, Samara's decision, Miranda's revenge and Anderson's death were just a few of the great moments.
The ending of the game was not as outrageous as people make it out to be but I do agree that it doesn't do the game justice. All the endings are virtually the same ending with different colors. Beginning with the push towards earth I would have liked to have spent more time with my LI. I would have also have liked to have seen more of the fighting by the different factions and their sacrifice especially since I spent the whole game putting them together.
I don't just want to hear about things going bad, I want to see what's going bad. Think about how in Return of the Jedi, we see Luke's desperation as the Rebel fleet is being destroyed and we actually see the Rebel fleet being destroyed. So more footage of the battle in space and on the ground from the point of view of the Salarians, Krogans, Geth, even the Blue Suns, etc. would have been a nice touch. But that's definitely not a game breaker but could have just made the game more awesome.
Again, the very ending doesn't bother me and the whole star child explanation of the way of things is fine. I just think the very end could have been done better. There should definitely be more choices. I would also like to hear from the people who survived. We can assume Cortez picked up our squadmates so I don't have a problem with them living and escaping with Jeff. I just need to hear from them and at least show some emotion about Shep being gone, presumably dead.
But overall great job Bioware. I hope this helps you improve future games.

Wow, I just finished the game last night. The game itself is very good and engaging, and there were several poignant moments (Mordin and Thane) that really made you feel connected to the mission at hand and the characters. I did not have any game-breaking bugs and the graphics were acceptable. I honestly am not that bothered by older looking graphics -- it's the story that drives the game for me. All-in-all a very enjoyable experience ... until the end.
While the endings were not ill-conceived or illogical in concept, they were childish in execution and lacked polish and depth -- something Bioware fans are accustomed to receiving.
The lack of a "feel good" ending was also disappointing -- when I want hard-hitting bleak realism I look to CNN world news, not my game library. That is what has completely ruined the trilogy for me. As I said, while the concept of "assimilation/destruction/control" was good, they failed to include a "feel good" alternative for those gamers who played a Paragon character -- not to mention that the execution of the concepts they did include was absolutely abysmal with plot holes you could steer the Normandy through.
Equally disappointing was being abjectly lied to prior to release regarding the multiplayer aspect. You must play multiplayer in order to receive a "better version" of one of the existing three scenarios. It is IMPOSSIBLE to reach the required war assets without playing multiplayer. Thus, I will never see that ending of the game and, consequently, the trilogy now has zero replayability for me. There will be no second or third playthough with a Renegade or Renegade/Paragon mix character to get a different ending -- the endings are all identical and dissappointing. I would just like the option of a different "feel good" ending so that a subsequent playthrough would not feel absolutely futile (which they now do).
I think Bioware has lost sight of the fact that many of us gamers play their games for entertainment and want the same variety you get with let's say a good movie or a good book. There are times you want a comedy and times you want drama. There are times you want a sad ending and times you want an inspirational ending. That said, movies and books only consume a matter of hours to reach the desired conclusion. To play a trilogy of RPG games, however, requires (in many cases) hundreds of hours so the exclusion of a satisfying ending has really left replayability of all three games in the porcelin goddess for many, many fans.
Finally, the complete lack of resolution of the squad mates you have come to know and love is unacceptable. It could have been accomplished with something as simple as a cameo of the character with text explaining their fate (i.e., BG2 and DA:Origins). I am at a complete loss as to why this was overlooked and leaves the player feeling a bit hollow and confused.
DA2 really tarnished Bioware's image for me, but I really wanted to see the conclusion of Shephard's story so I pre-ordered. I wish now I had passed -- at least then the first two games would have replayability. I really hope Bioware listens to the fans who have supported them over the years and come up with some kind of solution for a good portion of their fans who feel as I do. I would have given the game an 8 or 9 if not for these issues, but the fact there is absolutely no replayability for me (and the duplicitous statements regarding the multiplayer aspect) brings it down to a 6.

The writing is fantastic, gameplay's really fantastic, and the stakes are beautifully raised. I love how many times we go up against Reapers and come out worse for it or just break even. This is a great great game.
The Mordin/Wrex storyline? Well done. Just well done.
The Citadel Coup? Probably my favorite mission in the game, it has so much going for it. I love it from the moment it began to end.
The characters? Some really fantastic touching moments for all of them in there. I love it to death.
Everything is so well done. Although I didn't play the multiplayer nor wish to.
That being said, the ending has problems. Serious and deep problems.
I'm going to say, rightfully or wrongfully, that the ending choices aren't bad. They were just mishandled. And that the focus was wrong for the finale.
First off, you always should go on the side of caution when it comes to these big choices. You need to supply more information, always. That way players feel like they're making an informed decision and not something vague that they barely understood. More information was simply needed when it all came down to these three choices (or apparently less if you didn't do so well in the game).
As for the focus, the focus should always be on the Normandy and crew. It's weird that I have to say this but the whole bunch of them from ME1 to ME3 should have played a part in the finale. This is all of their fights. And we care about them and want to know what happens to them. Same with wanting to see all the fleets, I didn't see batarian fleets or Blood Pack guys or rachni in the fight. I really wanted to see all those desperate elements coming together.
They didn't.
But really, the crew. Take Shepard's big final Shepard Speech. Why couldn't all of the guys be there? Wrex, Samara, Zaeed, Miranda, Jacob, the whole lot of them? Why couldn't the plan just keep those non-squad mates doing tasks around the massive London battlefield? Why are they a few lines in a holograph with no closure at all?
And why isn't the Normandy in this fight? There are thousands of Reapers and hundreds of thousands of ships duking it out. Why don't we ever once see the Normandy in this fight?
And when there's moments of "marines cheering over Reapers dying/leaving" why aren't those marines crew members? We have connections to those characters not so much with random grunts.
Then there's the ending for the Normandy which makes no sense. The Normandy fled the battle? Apparently so. And squad members that died from Harbinger's attack are alive and in space? Well... what? Nothing about the crash made sense and the fact that it has no dialogue makes me think it was thrown in last minute. There's no closure there.
And the Stargazer has the same problem. I don't care about them, I don't know them, and I already knew that Shepard was a legend. I saw to that. It serves no purpose and is really terribly corny.
And the final focus problem is with the antagonist. The final antagonist should have always had been the Reaper threat. Not the Illusive Man.
The Illusive Man is an obstacle that is always in Shepard's way. That's just the fact of the matter. The big antagonist is the Reapers and what they're doing. TIM's delusional and clearly indoctrinated from the start of the game. He's not even interesting. He's just a speed bump in our way. But instead you guys elevated him to final boss and big bad of the series.
...he's delusional and poses no real threat... meanwhile just off in the distance a sapient fleet of warships has depopulated Earth and is cleaving through the last fleet of the galaxy.
Why weren't the Reapers the primary antagonist of the game and series? This is a series about stopping the Reapers not about talking the Illusive Man into killing himself. That's a repeat of Saren and has nothing to do with saving the galaxy other than TIM stood in the way of that.
So the focus for the ending is my big problem. The choices aren't great at the end but I can't help that. And those choices are left really vague and ultimately look and feel about the same regardless of choice.
The ending of this game brings down the whole thing. It's a problem and I wish it wasn't. I meant what I said this is probably your best game... but that ending... man it does not work.

I would love to give it a higher score but that is not possible because I will never play the game again since I have been robbed of replay value. Untill you fix the ending I would not recommend this game to anyone. War assets mean nothing, so basically the whole game was for nothing. Also I did not like the lack of side missions and also the sound track sucked compared to mass effect 2. I love the suicide mission song, should of brought it back. Bioware all you really need to do is fix the last 22 minutes, hey maybe even add a mission on the citidel. And make war assets matter!!!

I pre-ordered the PC collector's edition of ME3 and have played through the campaign twice. My review is based on this version.
COMBAT:
This was the subject of several threads in the forums after the release of the ME3 demo. I consistently found that when it was necessary to move from cover to cover the game mechanics were flawed. The "omnikey"/"awesome key" (spacebar) simply has too many actions tied to it. For example, I regularly died when I ducked into cover (on the wrong side) instead of jumping over a barrier I was expecting to shelter behind or spent far too long rolling around instead of taking shelter. If you have the firepower to take down enemies without moving much, you won't find this a huge issue but actions/movement are sloppily implemented when they don't need to be since there are lots of keys on a PC keyboard to map actions.
DAY 1 DLC:
While not objecting to the concept of day 1 DLC per se, I do not believe Javik is an add-on, but was ripped out of the story for the sake of charging an extra $10. Take Javik to Thessia and tell me afterwards he was not ripped out of the $59.99 game. In any event, I think Javik is an integral part of the ME3 plotline. The net result is that ME3 really costs $69.99 ($59.99 +$10.00 DLC). It would have been far more honest to price ME3 at $70 including Javik from the beginning. Of course, there are marketing issues with pricing at $70. A far better alternative would have been to make multiplayer the day 1 $10.00 DLC since multiplayer is irrelevant to the ME3 plotline--Javik isn't.
JOURNAL AND SIDE MISSIONS:
The journal in ME3 is sloppily implemented. Entries magically appear with no explanation, nor does the side mission appear on the Normandy's navigation map like in ME2. The typical minor side mission: go to destination, scan, magically obtain object, return is repetitive, silly and non-gameworthy. If you can't or won't implement a proper side mission leave it out.
DLC AUTHORIZATION NIGHTMARES:
Since I bought the collector's edition which included the "From Ashes" DLC I ran into the DLC authorization issues from the start, being told the DLC could not be authorized, saves could not be loaded, EA servers could not connect. I muddled my way through by learning to delete OnlineProfile.profile before every ME3 startup but could not help but think each time I started ME3 "Why am I being punished for paying the full price and downloading directly from Origin?". I understand that it is also possible to muddle through and load saves by disabling the internet connection before starting up ME3. Workarounds to play something I have paid full freight for leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Do I attribute this to unacceptably poor quality control or to complete disregard of the paying client by EA, I really don't want to have to choose either.
PLOT:
The endings in ME3 have been the subject of the most commentary in the forums. In my opinion, the real problem is that within the terms of the fictional world previously created in ME1 and ME2, the ME3 plot and ending/resolution is simply magic and bears little relationship to the ME1/ME2 fictional world. As an example, three reapers were killed in the game, one by the super thresher maw on Tuchunka, one on Rannoch by space fleet laser beams targeted by Shepard, and the last on earth by a Thanix missile. Now, if one Thanix missile can kill a Reaper, why are the entire galaxy's resources devoted to constructing the "crucible" which no one knows why or how it will work, and which is lacking the mysterious and unknown "catalyst"? Answer: "It's the best plan we've got." Duh...build 10,000 Thanix missiles and do battle. Why would the Reapers move the citadel/catalyst from its isolated spot in the galaxy to the sol system where the crucible is situated? Why not leave it where it is as there is no way for the allied forces to move the crucible to the citadel except by using the relays, and I'm not sure why no one has commented on this, but the crucible and the citadel are far too large to fit through the relays. How do the Reapers even move the citadel to the sol system? Answer: magic. I won't even comment on ghost space boy and the ridiculous blue/green/red endings. In my opinion the correct ending is the red one--destroy everything so we won't have to think further about how badly ME3 was handled. Even if EA/Bioware does release DLC to "fix" the ending, it is simply another cash grab--this game cost $70 and isn't a complete game which is what we were promised--it ends but the trilogy is not completed.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS:
My overall impression of this game is that is was produced by suits with the objective of milking the ME1/ME2 franchise for the maximum amount of money and directions to the developers to ship by a specific date, no matter what they had to skimp on, leave out, or implement poorly.
In my opinion this is a good bargain bin game which no one should feel badly about picking up for $19.95.

Quick breakdown:
Combat:
I feel like you finally nailed the combat in the final part of the trilogy, espcially in regard to the challenge level. I constantly felt on edge and like I had to keep on my toes while I was fighting. The sense of urgency and the need for tactics was a welcome addition. I loved the wide variety of weapons and upgrades too. This was wonderful. My only complaint was that the cover system was still a little buggy sometimes. The functions of cover/jump/use/etc are all on one button and that can make for some hilariously frustrating situations (sometimes more frustrating than hilarious).
Graphics/Sound:
The graphics were excellent. There were some truly stunning vistas and special effects throughout the entire game. The only thing that wasn't as polished was the facial animation system which is still sometimes awkward and gives the "valley of the dolls" effect. This has always been a problem in the Mass Effect series. I wouldn't say it was any worse or better in ME3.
Sound was phenomenal. The surround sound coming through on my G930 heaset was just spot on and it really enhanced my immersion in the game. Some of the bass was a little overpowering, but usually when it really kicked in the situation was appropriate (hurt every time I traveled through a mass relay though). The music was also absolutely perferct... it was a great mix of ME1 and ME2 at all the right times, along with some really touching pieces of it's own.
Story:
This has always been the most important part for me in any Bioware game. I have to love the story. I have to love the characters. It has to make an impact on me. In that regard, you absolutely succeded. I think it's unfortunate that everybody is focusing on the last 5 minutes of the game as the "ending" when really it was the whole game. Almost every choice I made in the first two games affected my story in this third chapter and it was done in a really satisfying way.
The character interactions were wonderful as well and I was very happy to see you fit almost everybody back in from both ME1 and ME2 (if they lived). My romance with Liara on the first playthrough was a little buggy though. I wasn't absolutely sure we were even still together until she came and made love to me in my cabin at the end.
I enjoyed the ending (as in the last 5 minutes) and for me, it was sad but pretty satisfying. My Shephard on this playthrough was a Paragon who did everything right, but I still never saw him coming out of this alive. His sacrifice didn't feel cheap and though there are some definite plotholes and ambiguity overall I liked it. It reminded me of some of the older sci-fi movies like 2001: A Space Oddysey or maybe even something newer like Solaris.
Brief Commentary:
Obviously the only thing I think most people are focusing on is the ending, which I think is a shame. I respect everbody's opinion and I can see how the ending would leave some scratching their heads or feeling dissatisfied. What I am sorry about is that it's overshadowing one of the greatest games I have ever played.
You folks at Bioware clearly put a lot of time and heart into this story and it must be absolutely demoralizing to have seen this feedback at release. Seriously. It had to hurt.
For what it's worth, I absolutely loved this game. Thank you for making it. I've been waiting for this game to come out since I went through the Omega Relay and took out the Collector Base. Hell, I've been waiting for it since I took down Sovereign and Saren and came crawling out of the rubble at the end.
You guys didn't let me down. I think you nailed it.

of but I do have a few bones to pick. I
will give you guys my honest opinion on everything I can think of from the PC version.
The Good:
--I will always love having the ability to play my gender (Femshep). It makes the story so much more
immersive and personal. And she is not one of those awful ‘sex sells’ figures. She is a woman who kicks ass and gets the job done in practical armor. I hope gaming companies and story writers alike will learn from your example.
--More character conversations and interactions on the Normandy. The crew felt more ‘alive’ since they moved around the ship and interacted with each other.
-- The memorial wall on the crew deck. That was such a great touch.
--The best voice actingskills I have ever experienced in a game.
--You guys really listen. The little things that I had seen for suggestions floating
around the forums long before launch made it into the game and I believe I
speak for everyone when I say I really appreciated them.
--The Music. Pretty please make all the scores available and I mean ALL of the scores. I would buy the CD in a heartbeat. Or even a digital download of it. I am one of those people who think a soundtrack that is powerful enough to stand on its own is an essential part of creating any good story and I would say your music artists really delivered the essence of the game. I'm tired of obnoxious commercials ruining my listening experience between videos on other sites and want my own copy.
--The beginning. The game started off with a bang which as the final and most urgent of the 3 it should have. And the cinematic of leaving earth was heartbreaking. It was a little double edged though. For those who did not have the arrival DLC it was easy to be confused as to why Shepard was being held on Earth and why Anderson was there if he was the player’s choice for the council.
--Ability to really visit and explore the citadel again
-- Mordin’s death scene. You guys tore my heartstrings to shreds there. Especially when he went down singing his epic Salarian scientist song.
--The return of kirrahe
--Being able to dig deeper into the personal lives of characters and their families
--Citizen walk-by conversations/stories in the Citadel that carried into different phases of the game and relevantly evolved
--Cover movement was greatly improved
--Enemy AI.I was pleasantly surprised when I had to radically adjust after I figured out the enemy could effectively flank and kill me before I knew what happened.
--Most romances. I loved hearing little snippets from other characters and the LI eluding to the relationships.
--I could just be good friends with characters without being ninja-manced.
--The space of onsite mission areas. I wasn’t running half way across an empty map just to get to the point. Plus I was not killing hordes of enemies solely for the sake of more ‘action time’.
--The level of running around a virtual Geth ‘city’ learning about their history. It was a nice change of pace and did not last too long. Plus I had always been interested about how the Geth functioned within their ‘platforms’.
The Bad:
--Kai Leng. What was the point of having a stereotypical ninja? You even shamelessly made him look Asian. Plus he just wound up…existing. Even Anderson’s mention of him sounded like a “oh yeah I forgot about that guy”. Bad random character insert,
--Kal’Reegar was killed off screen. He was an interesting character who I had been looking forward to seeing again.
-- Squad mate AI. They were nothing but cannon fodder and biotic ability holders. I wound up killing roughly 98% of all enemies by myself. It is a shame their intelligence did not match up with the enemies.
--There is a glitch where if I stand to the right directly behind Joker’s seat I always get stuck and have to reload. I
believe others have been having this issue
.--Tons of world scanning side missions. I believe I remember ya’ll saying you would improve the scanning system and not make it a chore. Guess what, it was a chore. A mind numbing one at that. I would have rather been sent down to a planet and learned more about it or other characters we have met throughout the story than playing hot potato with a scanner and reapers.
--Ashley. It felt like her whole character from ME1 had been stripped and all we had was a hollow face.
--No new hair styles.
--Bioware, you and Tali’s face. You are such a tease.
-- Switching weapons felt like a punishment. It took way too long and often resulted in my death.
--Lack of dialogue wheel 'grey' colors. In ME1 the choice wheel didn’t feel cut and dry paragon or renegade but ME3 sure as heck did. I felt I was forced into my role. Some people say they wanted this feature to make
reputation point gathering clearer but I for one liked ME1 style more.
--Since ME1 I am still annoyed at the lack of having a jumping ability. Crouching to vault over obstacles every time gets old.
The Ugly:
--The Endings. I’m going to go ahead and drop the bomb here, they were awful, all three of them. There was truly no choice since each one collapses the very civilization Shepard was trying to save. I understand where the basis of the ‘decisions’ came from and I can respect the ideas are cannon but they were poorly executed. And how can you even call them separate endings? The only real difference was the idea behind each and the color… NOTHING was different and I feel cheated as a fan and customer. This effectively strips any replay value and leaves a massive chasm of doom gaping with plot holes that I could list on forever. There is a difference between making your fans thinking and leaving them dangling in the wind, grasping for any straw to make any kind of sense of what they just saw. We know nothing about what happened to the galaxy Shepard supposedly saved. From your endings all I can guess is no matter what everyone will die without relays to get them home.
--The story needs closure, not open ended absurdness. What happened to all the races after the fact? What happened to the crew? Crashing on a random planet somewhere tells me nothing. It only confuses me.
--The ending was rushed and disjointed/disorienting. I cannot tell you how many times I have been left disappointed and wanting when reading a book or playing a game and the end comes in a condensed form that is over before I can even blink.
--My choices through all games in the end ultimately had no impact[/b]. Other than if the earth was instantly incinerated or not any choices were made moot when the mass relays were destroyed. No matter what I chose the reapers would win. Bioware just take the bone people are throwing you and make a DLC to continue the story and make all the BS we experienced an epic inception level indoctrination. Give us endings that made everything we did matter.
--This would be purely fan-service and my own opinion but…for the love of god give us ONE happy ending where Shepard reunites with their love interest. Just like in ME2 where we could have the worst possible outcome all the way to the best with many variables in between.
--The Army. This goes back to impact of choices. There were clips of ships shooting at the Reapers and a couple shots of commanders in SOME fleets. I wanted to see more such as the Rachni I had recruited and Krogan. Even some of the side quest scanner ones where I recruited Elcor ‘tanks’. I wanted to see them all storm the reapers with what tactical advantage they specifically brought to the battle. I did spend all game amassing them did I not?
--Quest Journal. I was left confused on where I was supposed to go for certain quests because there was no explanation. Plus there needed to be some sort of separation by priority. And I don’t mean the one small label you gave the story progression quests.
--Multiplayer online. This was a marketing gimmick was it not? It was awful and boring and should have been left out. Just because it works for one company who bases their entire game on it does not mean a watered down version of the idea will do the same for another. Be original Bioware, I know you’re better than this.
--Romanced Thane was a broken story element. Hardly any interaction or emotion was involved and I could have sworn he was not ready to die anymore after he found Shepard and his son to live for. Why did he suddenly become an unemotional board who was content to die slowly in a hospital bed where he explicitly said he did not want to end up? Not only that but his death was not even recognized by the crew. There was absolutely no follow up or physiological impact.
In conclusion…
I will say I loved the game tremendously and it was overly satisfying but I cannot get over the endings. They are simply broken. There is no difference between them, destroying replay value, and the huge plot holes left me confused and unsatisfied. I agree with the literally thousands of fans who want better conclusions to the story we spent years playing and developing an attachment to.

And i'll start, by giving it a score:
in a void, the game would be an 8/10. The PS3 version, which i'm playing, gets a 7/10 (more on that in a moment), and once you factor in the ending of the game, the overall score stabilizes at 3/10.
Wait, what? 3/10, seriously? All the bribed games magazines all rating it somewhere between 90 and 100, and I'm giving it a 3? What the hell? But let's start at the beginning.
ME3 is not a proper role playing game - it's a stor-driven shooter, and as shooters go - i've seen better. Still - practically every aspect of ME2 has been improved in some way, even if all it did was bringing the game up to speed. No breakthroughs here, in fact - the cover system could use more work. "Going into cover" sometimes randomly turns into "rolling out into the open and taking a rocket to the face", based on the game's fault, not input error.
The weapon system has recieved a major overhaul. While Shepard's teammates still have only 2 weapon proficiencies, as in ME2, Shep can now equip any weapon, regardless of the class you are playing. And there's a valid reason for not going all John Rambo and bringing 5 different weapons on a mission - namely your powers' cooldowns are affected by how much guns you carry. Something as simple as weight might make the vindicator a better choice than the otherwise superior mattock, and shotguns and sniper rifles tend to be heavy. Upgrades are a nice bonus as well, allowing you to put a personal touch into the weapons.
Shame that can't be said about the armour system, which is identical to the one from ME2.
Powers now go up to rank 6, and ranks 4, 5, and 6 have two variants to choose from. A very nice twist on barier/fortification, which functioner as an instand shield restore button in ME2, but a pain to use due to thheir timed duration. Now, those powers are on toggle, and function as flat damage reduction, but at the cost of increasing power cooldowns while active.
All classes also got new powers to play with. I especially liked nova - it plays right into the high risk - high reward playstyle of the vanguard class. Now, in addition to biotic charge, which restores your barier (but puts you right in the action), yo can unleash an AOE attack (right after charging too), but at the cost of draining all your shields.
Some powers have been reworked here and there and overall i'd say ME3 is looking 100% better than ME2 in this respect.
One big no-no i (at least on the PS3) is the framerate. Usually it is fine, but sometimes, something clogs the system and the game drops (even below one fps at times) - especially bad if this happens in a multiplayer match. Of other technicalities - character animation (especially at the start of the game) could be better.
On to the story (spoilers ahead):
Liara is the new Shadow Broker, and if you haven't done the Shadow Broker DLC, she kindly explains what "all this stuff is". More importantly though, some crucial events between ME2 and ME3 are covered by the Arrival DLC for ME2, and if you haven't done that, you may be surprised why Batarians want Shepard's head, or have trouble understanding why some people consider the commander to be the worst mass-murderer in known history.
Story-wise, I regret that some renegade options are "not renegade enough" for my taste. Gerrel orders the dreadnought (which was just disabled) fired upon (with Shepard on board) and jeopardizes the entire galaxy by putting his beef with the geth above all else, and Shepard... punches him in the gut? Seriously? And that's assuming you take the renegade interrupt. Where is the option to toss him out of the airlock? Like, you know, on Spectre authority? Earlier, you could order a release of a mass murderer, but this guy is about to get 17 million quarians blown up bu waving his giant boner at the geth and you can't put a bullet in his head?
Apart from those little things, the game is EPIC. The world around you comes alive in a thousand different ways. Many things you do end up affecting the war assets somehow, and reading how your mention of the krogan has garnered more support for your fleets is very rewarding. I particularily liked the part where Tali said the geth were uploading THEMSELVES into quarian suits, to simulate infections and "jump-start" their immune systems (assuming of course you managed to make peace between the quarians and the geth, and not allowd he geth to wipe out the quarians, causing Tali to do something drastic - like jumping off a cliff).
The part with Mordin was especially nice, as was getting an e-mail from Maelon, who was thrilled to hear that the genophage has been cured.
It's really impossible to describe all the amazing little details that make this game so epic. One last thing worthy of note is the galactic map, that (as time passes) shows more and more systems conquered by the reapers.
Of the bad things: starring Kai Leng, as the cheesiest henchman of all time. Both encounters prior to cerberus base bear far foo much of "GM's intervention" that allow this otherwise completely uninteresting opponent (didn't even break a sweat fighting him) to prevail.
Which begs the question - how horrible does the ending need to be, to completely destroy 90+ hours of very rewarding gameplay in just 10 short minutes?
The answer is - very.
First, and capital, offence - the game takes away control of YOUR commander Shepard, in order to enable an ending that the developers desire. That's just universally bad, and in a rpg - that is an unforgivable abomination.
Second - it is completely out of character. After 3 games of defying the reapers at every turn, Shep just gives in t the space kid without question or a word of protest. Where's my "and I plan to live to tell about it" at? (FTR - that's an exact quote from ME2 just prior to entering the collector base in the suicide mission).
Third - it's full of holes. Normandy running away? Seriously? With my teammates, magically teleporded onto it? WTF?
Fourth - prior to the release, BW specifically promised, that this would not happen. That there would be no ending "a, b, or c" in this game.
Fifth - it doesn't answer any questions at all. So, did the quarians get along with the geth? Did the reapers (in the control ending) manage to fly away before the destruction of the relays, ar are they stuck on earth with everybody else, looking very stupid? Does the galaxy even exist anymore, or did the destruction of the mass relays, which triggered an explosion so enormous it's visible from the galaxy map, wipe out all life completely?
Sixth - it's always the same. Apart from the colour of your doom, and about 10 seconds of animation (based on your EMS, worked into a system that doesn't make sense) implying the fate of Earth - you always get the same damn animation. Did BW get lazy in the end? And regardless of your EMS, and the actual forces you bring into battle, the final mission plays out the same. Only difference is a few lines of dialogue here and there.
As I recall - BW explicitly stated, that since ME3 is the end of the trilogy, they are not bound by the need to create a universal starting point for the next game, which will allow for wildly different conclusions of the story. In the end we got neither conclusion, nor different - just the same clip raising more questions than answers.
Overall - ME3 is a very decent 3rd person shooter, with an epic backstory, a solid multiplayer mode, tons of great details and surprisingly few glitches... and a horrible ending.
3/10

My sentiments will echo most on this forum. Everything up until the last ten minutes of the game was absolutely amazing. Mordin curing the genophage was by far the most emotional scene I have ever witnessed in a video game. The conclusion of that storyline was perfect. Brokering peace between the Quarians and Geth and hearing Tali tell legion that, "yes," he had a soul, was equally amazing and inspiring.
Game mechanics and combat are incredibly fluid and fun.
Comic relief was awesome. I'm so glad I got the From Ashes DLC because Javik turned into one of my favorite characters to both interact and use in my squad.
"Leaving Earth" theme is absolutely beautiful, but that's Clint Mansell for you.
The endings, however, leave much to be desired.
This is coming from a fan who tried to give the endings the benefit of the doubt, but viewing the ending in its entirety with the context around it, I'm just as confused as everyone else on these boards. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily as angry, but I finished the game with the sense of ... emptiness. It just didn't feel complete. There is absolutely no sense of closure once you finish the game, and with the end of a trilogy of this kind of magnitude, closure is absolutely necessary.
I do want to say that I get what the developers were trying to accomplish. Normandy crash-landing on the unnamed planet is supposed to represent a "new beginning." Life has been saved and they are, depending on your interpretation, left to begin a brave new world. Unfortunately there were some assumptions and over sights made with the ending that completely negates that whole idea. We have no explanation for how the crew made it to the Normandy. The guardian is introduced in the last ten minutes of the series and contradicts itself depending on choices you make. You can't honestly expect me to believe it is impossible for organics and synthetics to coexist when in that same playthrough I managed to broker peace between the geth and the quarians.
We also have no epilogue explaining what happened to the other fleets marooned in the Sol system. I almost feel like this ending is perfectly suited for The Illusive Man, because who cares about the other alien races? At least Humans will go on.
I'll be honest, I'm perfectly fine with the idea of "grimdark" endings. I'm not okay with poorly executed endings, however, and that's how these feel.
Edited to add: I don't feel that rating the third installment of this game is appropriate, because I don't feel like it ended. I'm still waiting for Sheppard to wake up from the beam on Earth. With that said, the game was absolutely phenomenal up until those last ten minutes.

Chris this truly was and couldve have been one of your greatest of not the best overall game for you guys if not for the ending. I felt like our choices did not matter and you guys said its biowares game made for our monetary gain rather than how the ME1 & 2 was this is biowars game made solely for you, our fans.
