No - it means you need to collect as many war assets as possible in SP, but you can achieve perfect ending without MP.
Ah, but what is "perfect"?
I think it's 5000 points and 4000 if you import.
in case people want to put a figure on the abstract calculation.

I really don't like this aspect. Multiplayer should not affect single player... that should be blatantly obvious. Even though you can get the best ending without multiplayer, now they require you to hunt down and complete every side-mission, which I personally do not enjoy. In ME2, I did not enjoy doing those side-missions that have a low-quality feel to them, with little to no voice-overs and a lame story tacked on with journal logs or something. I fear it's going to make the game feel like a "grind."
Some of those missions are surprisingly short, sort of an excuse for you to scout ahead a MP map.

I'd rather put an ending to the abstract calculation.

"...t’s all rather… dirty. Presumably they’re trying to encourage you to try the multiplayer because to do well in it, you have to buy or earn unlockable items, and you can get these for real money. But they’re doing it by hurting your single player game, slapping a good playthrough with a bad ending as a penalty for not playing co-op. Even if you like co-op, it’s not unreasonable to want to play through the single player first.
It is possible to get the best ending in single player without playing multiplayer, but it’s twice as hard. All your War Assets only count for 50% of their potential value. The biggest gains in War Assets come from a culmination of your decisions in the previous games and your decisions in this one: if you’ve helped a race before, and you help them here, it’s often possible to get their full support and resolve their conflict to get someone else on your side too."
What i get from that, is that you need to have done everything right on the pass games to get the "best ending" only with single player.
I imagine ppl that are entering the series only now with ME3, can't get without multi.
And what happens, if lets say, 2 years from now, i want to play ME3 but the multiservers are already closed?

You're going to have to work to defeat the Reapers. Besides "Side Missions" as you call them have been vastly improved.

TIMED?!
EA brainstorming session - mid-November 2011: "Okay guys, let's think up as many ways as possible to hurt the ME3 players as revenge for what they did to DA2's sales..."
When I play new games I pull the internet cable out the back of my Xbox 360. I put it back in after the first playthrough. I will never touch MP mode.

"Finished main mission."
"side mission pops up" You ignore it and continue doing 2-3 more main missions.
"Side missions vanishes"

I've heard both. Some people say it's plot based like with ME2 , others say it's an actual ticking clock in the background.

It's not a thing related to real hours or minutes or anything like that, it's more along the lines.

"Side missions vanishes"
So it's not tied to real time or something, just to progress within the plot?

Other than L4D, I've never played an MP game like this before and I unlocked a ton of stuff and got to N7 100.DiegoRaphael wrote...

I think there's one item you can buy with real money at this point, and it's not as powerful as a carnifex.

This is unbelievably bad.
What the hell did you do Bioware, you promised us we were not forced, yet you hide behind that "well you have 1 in a 100 chance to DO get the best ending clause".
I am literally starting to hate Bioware soon.

It's actually true that you can buy weapons in multiplayer? :-( That's disappointing to say the least...
