What I did to fix it was close out of origin completely, open the tray and let auto-run log you into origin and try it from there.

I bought the game at a retail store today. When I try to install it I get to the auto run screen with two buttons; Install and Help. When I click install nothing happens. Right now I'm installing via Origin but that is going to take 8-9 hours to finish. Why can't I just install from the disc like I have with ME1 and 2?

I had sort of the same issue, it asked me to put in my code which I thought was the CE/Ashes code and said it wasn't the right code, so I exited out and had the issue you had.

When I do that, it asks me to log into Origin

I manually added the code to the origin application. I did not, however, begin downloading the game. I then closed origin, and inserted the disc, and started the standard installation procedure. The game disc installation opened the origin application, and prompted me to log in. After doing so, I was given the option to install the game from disc.
I think they key is making sure the game is registered in origin, and then attempting to install with origin not started. It worked for me.

I just had this problem, and resolved it myself. Currently installing by disc right now.

^ exactly what I ended having to do, which I think is stupid, I buy a disc I should be able to download from the disc then authenticate it.

Layers of control. If you can't even install the game without validating a code, it makes it a bit tougher to pirate. Origin is pretty messed up in its current state, though, when ordinary users can't install the dang game. I'm not a big fan of Steam, but it is light years better than this.

I tried this myself, it worked... the THIRD time I tried it, which indicates to me that there's something very wrong with Origin. Ask any tech and they'll tell you the worst kind of glitch is the intermittent one.
Anyway, the fix, directly from Tech Support, is to open settings, delete all game installers, close and log out of origin and reboot your machine. This is, apparently, the fix...
On another note, I'm seriously thrilled at the level of support from the staff in this forum, right?! How helpful are they on this issue?! Wow!

This worked perfectly for me, thanks very much for posting this
Thank you to EA/Origin for making it harder than it needs to be to install this from the CD/DVD
