Does anyone know if importing an ME1 save into ME2 and then altering that face slightly will work when importing into ME3?

I don't think you can't alter a face in ME2 that has been imported from ME1.

Even if you could, I don't think it would solve the problem.

Crap! Well... now I don't have to try that. Thanks!

I made my Custom Shep in ME1, and used a method I found on Faces of Mass Effect....in the sliders in ME1, count outwards from 1 (1 being far left of the slider) and make a note....recreate in ME2 using the slider postions and you'll have your Shep from 1, with a code to use in  3 ;)

That is not a half bad idea but sadly they removed several things from the character creation in ME3. So I do not believe it will work like that. The point is no one should have to jump through hoops like this to import a character when this was something that was suppose to be a major draw for the trilogy.

Agreed I just went back in the posts and found his post. I am happy to know they are looking for a solution.

Yeah I do that for too. But when you do that you have to start all the way over with ME1.

Yeah I agree it is good that we are getting updates and that Bioware are trying to fix this.

Is it possible to have a rough ETA though? I am waiting for the patch before playing on 360 but if it's going to be 2 weeks I might have to rebuild my Shep, if it's a day or 2 I will wait.

Thanks in advance for the update Bioware!

Well I'm glad that BW is doing more than "looking into it". I'm very pessimistic that they would actually get this fixed. But I do hope I am wrong and that we can all import our characters 1 on 1.

Decided to take screenshots of the squadscreen throughout the games. If BW does pull it off I'll gladly update this comparison.

Well I still haven't received my game (trapped in customs), so I thought about firing up the demo to see if I could tweak my Shep and get a code to input into the actual game when it arrives. Would it be a good idea?

Edit: Update: Hi Everyone.

We want to keep everyone up to date on this issue as we know how strongly many you feel about this. I will continue to update this thread as we have more information.

We have determined that faces importing incorrectly is an error with how codes were detected when transferred from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2 and then on into Mass Effect 3 or importing a Mass Effect 2 saved game with New Game +. The Mass Effect team continues to investigate fixes for these issues and they are top priority concerns for
everyone here.

Again, when we have more news, we will let everyone know. Thanks again for your patience.

Thank you for the small update Chris. It's awesome to know that you guys on the development team are taking your time to try and get a fix for us. I honestly haven't played my game because of this issue, but I hope that none of the 'harsh' words that some are saying are offending any of the BioWare staff. Keep up the good work and I hope that a fix is coming really soon!

Chris and everyone at BioWare, enjoy your weekend! :)

I went ahead and played the game and I finished it last night. I had to try and recreate my FemShep's face but like most of you, it wasn't even close to the original. In the end her face became really distracting. Even during the last scene of the game (30 some odd hours in) I was still frustrated with her face. I was never able to fully get over the fact that, that is NOT my Shepard.

I hear ya.  That's why I'm not playing it.

Guys, I know you are trying hard, and I am not going to yell at you because this game is awesome in every way with the exception of this issue.  But I will state this.  You are looking in the wrong place.  It isnt an issue with the coding.  The issue is that half of the character creation options from the previous titles arent in the game at all.  I am talking hairstyles, hair colors, skin colors, noses, eyes and eye colors.  Most of these are missing, and as a result can not be used in the third game.  If you want to fix this issue, then you need to patch the character creator with the bare minimums from the former titles.

Exactly.  And don't forget facial structures!

I have played about 5 hours into the game, and there is a lot more expressiveness that allows both subtle and extreme expressions.  The faces can move a lot more to show despair, disgust, and shock.  There are also parts where you can see the weight of the galaxy sitting on Shepard in bits of his expression. It's very good, of course that can be rendered irrelevant if it's not YOUR Shepard that you're playing and you've lost all the connection that goes with those emotions being presented.

Actually, I think if you have a Shepard who was poorly translated, a lot of the new animation gets lost because the vertices or bones or whatever are in odd positions, and it does actually come out quite wooden.

I tried that solution where you attempt editing the face in ME2, backing out of it and getting the face code that way. But it came out as a barely modified version of the regular face. I miss my old face, I can't quite get the new right.

And the hair colour is especially off.

Here's my comparisons of my Shepard in ME, ME2 and the ME3 demo.

I just remade the face in ME2 by comparing it to the imported face, then copied the face code straight into the demo.  It should come out the same in the proper version as well, shouldn't it?

I think the only thing that's odd is the hair looks so much darker in ME3.

Is there a way of finding your me1 face code to manually put into me3 on xbox 360?

Yes, the link is actually in the OP, but I also created a blog post about it here:

So annoyed. And disappointed. Now I'm going to have to wait until it's fixed, as when I try to recreate my FemShep, it looks NOTHING like her (they removed her hairstyle, hair colour, face shape, skin colour, eye colour, and maybe even more!)
