Honestly, this saddens me. Not that ur ME3 creation isn't good, it's jus that your ME2 one is SO good, and has such a realistic visage compared to the 3D anime look of the update. I've couldn't recreate my ME1 face. was a total impossibility. From skin colour to just general appearance, I gave in and decided to just play the game with an all new face. I'll just continue creating new Sheps in ME1 and updating them in ME2 until the patch arrives. Le sigh.

Mine looks like an animated version of ME2 as well! I'll post mine in a bit.

Would this be a fair equivalent comparison?

Just to clarify, there are no existing workaround methods for 360 that do not involve a formatted USB drive, correct? I guess I can't imagine there would be, but I've been watching this thread for so long I'm not really sure which way is up and if there are only 2 or like 20 different methods thus far, and I'm getting pretty close to giving up on my wait.

You need a USB flash drive, but an external USB HDD should work as well. You barely need any space for the save though. I'm not sure if the Xbox will give you a minimum allowable amount, but you only need maybe a couple hundred KBs if that - so if u have any USB drive at all, just let the Xbox format the least possible amount of space for you (but backup anything already on the USB drive). Basically you need some way to transfer that save to a PC, and the Xbox only wants to talk to USB.

Janus breaks it down with the simplest explanation here - social.bioware.com/1124764/blog/211646/

Thank you very much for the help.

Her face came through for me from what I can see. What do you think?

Man, why didn't they just keep the same engine. It looks like the mass effect numbers were reversed in yours (ME2 looking like that should be ME3 and vice versa). They should have just kept the same engine.

Does anyone have any clue how many of us there are? That is, some general idea of how many players have experienced this problem out of everyone who bought the game?

I dig your ME2 shep better; much more unique.

I think it is everyone who played since ME 1 with the same character. A lot of people don't check these forums and don't know it is a widespread issue. I'm guessing Bioware has the stats on how many people played since ME1 and those who played since ME2 and decided the most money was coming from people who created a character in ME2.

But the damage is done, I refuse to ever buy one of their games again and will only rent (if i even do that) from now on. They've failed me too many times.  How could they miss this issue during testing. People do not want to spend hours fixing your mistake. I used to be on their side when people were hating, but after this I am done defending them. They sold out when they partnered with EA. All the quality guys left the company because they lost their values.

This is frustrating. I spent the last hour messing around with the sliders and I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible to recreate the same character

And the lack of communication is even more annoying. I would rather know already whether it's something I will have to deal with so I can finally play the game.

Many of us share that very same sentiment, myself included, but it appears that Bioware just doesn't have anything to say yet, unfortunate as it is. Perhaps as a means of giving myself some hope, I'd put a lot of faith in the idea that today, being the start of a new work week, would warrant some sort of update on the matter, and that appears to be incredibly unlikely at this point.

Agreed. They are terrible at PR. They can't even fake it. They should tell us what to expect so they don't waste our time/

Tried the KunamiMata fix.

I got this as my face code: 3[SKINTONE_FAIL]1.C5P.RQJ.152.8CM.41A.STU.6A1.CN1.GJ1.151.1

What do I do next ?

Just use the number 1 in place of the skin tone fail message - so the first three numbers of your code will be 311.

Once you get it in the CC, fix the skin tone and any other wild cards (which will probably be hair color, brow color, iris color and possibly nose shape)

Thanks for that. Looks to be pretty close to my male Shep. I'll try to post some pics a little later. I couldn't wait any longer so I tried the system out and I was pleasantly surprised albeit disappointed because as someone just mentioned the creation system for ME3 looks to be the outdated one and ME2's version is obviously the superior of the two. What a mess.

I LOL at the notion of this being treated with the importance stated in the press... the bug is actually outsourced to EA for them to fix as it was considered "low priority" in terms of the game.

See that I can understand. It's not a gamebreaker, and I can see why they wouldn't treat it as a massive priority (even though on a personal note, it's killing me not being able to use my Shep) just don't smuggle me a suitcase nuke and tell me that slight uranium leak is all in hand..."

So if we are to believe that (and who would make that kind of stuff up) they don't really consider it a priority. This message made me decide to never buy another Bioware game (only renting from now on, if that). I think others should make a similar oath to themselves. They get away with this because we preorder and buy their products at the launch. The only way they will feel any sort of responsibility (because I guess personal integrity is just not profitable these days) is to make them feel it in their pockets.

The really ironic thing about all this is that I was TERRIFIED for the past 2 years that something would happen to my save file and my Shepard would be lost before the third game came out. I couldn't wait for the opportunity to start a save file and put that to an end (and here I am a week later without a save file). Of course, I assumed if anything ever happened, it would be a problem on my end. I don't think anyone could have expected this to turn out the way it did. I guess I just need to focus on the bright side, that my choices are all still in tact.

The Face Effect

  • MorphFeatures is something I'm not sure about. When I transferred these variables, it didn't seem to have any effect. You might try not bothering with them.
  • OffsetBones is the bones under the skin that control the FACE SHAPE. This is the most important bit really, but colour also is a factor.
  • ScalarParameters is effects on the face, stuff like lighting interaction (such as how glossy the hair is).
  • TextureParameters is a collection of data just like Hair Mesh. It uses named variables which hopefully you set in ME3. This would be things like your complexion, hair and brows styles.
  • VectorParameters controls colour, including skin tone, eye colour and makeup.

Thanks for this!  Does offset bones also control the exact shape of the eye lids?

Also, ditto to putting this infro into the ME3 gibbed editor thread :)

If this is low priority, I'd hate to see high priority

It's the internet, sadly people do lie for the sake of it... unfortunately I am not one. The friend in question isn't in a position in that they can tell me anything other than "It was outsourced due to low priority" but I'm TRYING to keep an open mind. Maybe they're too busy with other projects, and won't deal with anything directly that's not gamebreaking... business is business... maybe EA can give it the attention it deserves... or maybe it's at the bottom of a to do list. I just thought I'd report what I know as we've all been waiting a while. I also don't know when it was outsourced, as I do get the suspicion this bug was known prior to release. I guess, like all news, you can interpret it how you wish! I'm... disgruntled... as I want my Shep. Thankfully my first canon isn't as well crafted as some of yours and is slightly easier to let go and make anew. but if I hadn't have screwed up my first character and kept him for ME2 (damn you Bioware for not letting us just simply edit an existing face... WTH!) I know for a fact I wouldn't be playing now. I'll be cautious with Dragon Age III for sure.

If it wasn't known before release, I'd be surprised. Either the QA team are incompetent for not checking a key feature or people higher up are devious enough to not want to make it known.

So true lol I've known so many people who have lost 360's full of Sheps, I've protected mine like the holy grail... Now somewhere between ME2 and 3, one's had plastic surgery (and almost ethnic reconsignment) and the others are just having a little break while the reapers have their way with Earth. Because they cant face going outside, simply because I can't stand to look at them...
They can save the galaxy... twice... but they can't beat agorophobia. Go figure.

Unfortunately, that's about all it did for me.  Kinda pinched the mouth and nose.  It really looks less like my Shep than the direct import.  My real problems are the overall head shape, how the eyebrows are mapped, and of course the ME3 eyes, but it didn't end up doing much for those.

But, I still appreciate Pheonix's efforts, of course...
