So if your Shepard is a similar mix of resemblance and difference, please play the game and maybe you'll grow fond of her again like me.
No offense, but your ME2 and ME3 Shepards look completely different. Personally, I don't see how you can view them as the same person.
However, some people notice differences in faces more than others. I'm an artist, so the differences between subtle eye, mouth and head shapes jump out at me. Not only that, but many people form extremely close associations between voice and face. The voice forms a mental image of the face you're expecting to see. When it's off, it's incredibly jarring. There is no way in hell I'd ever accept your ME3 Shepard as remotely similar to your ME2 one, if that was my own Shepard.
It's spiffy that it works for you, but don't belittle other people's choice to not play until we can get an exact import of the characters we have known for the last 5 years. Some of us just aren't going to make the leap. I tried for 4 hours to recreate the Shepard I knew, and every time I started playing, I felt like I was watching a mannequin emulating the character, no matter what I did to try to fix it. The gulf only became wider further into the game I went.
I'm not an artist but it's not as if I don't see the differences. It's not even a close resemblance. In profile the difference between the nose to mouth to chin shape is big. Not too fond of the round cheeks. They make her look like she's still got some baby fat left, but when she frowns she looks 40.
I too noticed that the faces all used to be much longer and you could get them to be quite narrow.
Somebody posted a femShep with a bun who had quite elegant features. Now it's all gone. So, what made that Shepard stand out was destroyed.
Well, hard to explain exactly why my ME3 Shep is fine for me ... I guess it really boils down to finding the new Shepard appealing for the same reasons as the old one. Roughly anyway. The eyes still bug me, though.
Maybe because I accepted that all the Shepards got re-invented by the new CC and graphics, I have come to see mine as that re-invention and made peace with it.
I am still upset about the issue, don't get me wrong. I'd love my Shep to look the way she did before. But it's not going to happen.
I am just glad I like her new looks. (I am a straight female player, though. Maybe I'd be more upset if I managed to create a manShep as the object of my desire, so to speak, and he ended up being a turn-off now.)
The ME2 Shepards don't look exactly like they did in ME1, either. Very close, I'd say 90%. But I believe the faces were already less narrow in ME2, weren't they? They tuned up the make-up and the blush.
Now in ME3 I'd put the resemblance at 60-70%.
I suggested people try to play with their ME3 Shepards because I got the feeling most people give up after 10 minutes of the intro. And it took me quit a bit longer to get comfortable with the new look.
However, I greatly sympathize with those of you who cannot accept the changes. I really do.
I am very very fond of my ME2 Shepard.
Btw, yes, Hale's voice is linked to my first Shepard. Oddly, that's not the case with Meer. Maybe because to me Shepard is female anyway and I only played male for the romances. I was not satisfied with the looks of the two manSheps I have. Hale's voice on my other femShep felt strange. Like movie dubbing.
Fortunately, I have no problems accepting Hale's voice for my ME3 Shep. Still fits perfectly.
Question: is the VI Shepard still being discussed? Because I met mine and I could tell instantly that it is NOT my ME2 Shepard! It's the ME3 one. 100% sure about that.
What irritates me, though, is that apparently it's not entirely impossible to have characters look very much as before. Thane looks identical to me without direct comparison. Miranda is very close, too.
So how come that's possible but the import is such a mess?!
