So aside from using social media petitions and what not, have people been bombarding EA Support about this? - help.ea.com/connect-with-us
I would think that if they get inundated with emails from everyone having the problem saying how angry they are and that they want an ETA on a fix, that they are more likely to feel some pressure rather than ignore the issue
I contacted EA Support on UK release day specifically about the broken character import (9th) and got the following on the 10th, which looks like a standard reply, and as you can see, is not terribly helpful. Note the part I have put in bold. Also, why does it keep mentioning Steam?
But as you say, the point is to keep asking, even if the response leaves a lot to be desired!http://helporigin.se...elp_Center_LogoHELP CENTER
Hello Name Removed,
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.
I have gone through your email regarding and let me assure you that I will try my level best to resolve your issue. Below details can be helpful importing the character a save file from steam into ME3.
What do I need to import my Shepard into Mass Effect 3?
You must have completed the game in your Mass Effect 2 save file in order to import it into Mass Effect 3.
Mass Effect 3 cannot find my Mass Effect 2 save file on PC!
Mass Effect 3 for PC searches for Mass Effect 2 files automatically, you will not be able to search for them manually. Make sure your file is located in the following location on your PC:
Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect 2 > Save > [save files]
Can you import a save file from Mass Effect into Mass Effect 3?
No, Mass Effect 3 cannot import a save file from Mass Effect (1). You will need a completed save file from Mass Effect 2. Otherwise, Mass Effect 3 will prompt you to select choices from ME and ME2 when you create a new game.
If Shepard died in the ending of Mass Effect 2, will I be able to use that save file for Mass Effect 3?
Nope! You need a save file where Shepard survives the ending of Mass Effect 2.
Will I be able to make changes to my Shepard when I import?
You will be given the option to alter the appearance of Shepard, and you will be able to change class (i.e. Soldier to Adept) as well.
NOTE: Some ME2 saves will not be able to import the face-file of your Shepard. You will need to re-create the appearance when importing the file.
Will I be able to import a save file from Steam into Mass Effect 3?
Some customers are concerned that their Mass Effect 2 save files from the Steam version for the game will not work in Mass Effect 3, which requires Origin. Do not worry, any complete Mass Effect 2 save file can be imported into Mass Effect 3.
In case of any further questions, please feel free to get in touch with us anytime. You can also visit our website and review our extensive self-help knowledgebase (http://help.ea.com).

I understand that the inability to coherently continue your personal Shepard's story from ME1 to ME3 may be depressing, but I believe that what you're suggesting as a way to alleviate the problem before the fix is put in is a little bit over-the-top. I was slightly choked when I found out about it as well, and I'm still waiting for a fix, but in the mean time, what I did was load up Mass Effect 2, go back to my character and take a picture. Then in ME3 I tried to make it as close as possible. For the most part it was a success, it wasn't perfect, but I know I'm going to play through the entire series again in the future; by then I'm confident that this issue will be fixed.
I agree and ive done the exact same thing with my character... just dont understand why they would release the game when they knew about this problem.. everyone is having problems right? 100% of ME1 characters right? Are we to believe bioware didnt test this..? so did there charaters work? They should have known months ago..
WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM NOW BIOWARE?

And be able to have two characters at once in it so one can have a face on one side while one is trying to recreate/or make improvements that face on the other side.
It atleast would be something.

It's not 100% of everyone who played ME1. Certain facial features, hair cuts, etc., that were in ME1 and ME2 were removed from ME3. If your character had features that were removed in ME3, you're screwed. If your character has features that are in all three games, then you're okay. But mostly, everyone is not okay.

If by EA doesn't, you mean EA is the one who doesn't care, I agree. I don't feel like I can blame Bioware since EA is the one controlling everything: content, budgets (including what they're gonna pay Bioware to fix). EA makes all the decisions, which leaves Bioware at their mercy. I feel for Bioware when I think about it that way. I like to think Bioware made the best game they possible could, for the fans, while having to fit into the peramters of budgets and other impositions EA puts on them.

I played ME1 and ME2 on 360 before building a gaming PC. I bought another ME2 for PC. I manually recreated my Shepard's face for ME2 (PC) and simulated my decisions in ME1 using Gibbed.MassEffect2.SaveEdit.exe.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I don't think the problem is that simple. My ME1>ME2 face did not import into ME3, but I did the workaround to get my ME2 morph's code, and when putting it into ME3 (and after fixing colors) I got a match for all the features. It looks different of course because the graphics are different, but it's what would have imported from ME2 if the import conversion worked properly.
It would be cool if they did something like having a separate app like the DAO character creator they put out before the game released.

Well, let's spom #fixmasseffect3 on twitter and get it trending, get as many people you know talking about it. That will make games news, and get people talking about it.

Need to find something which is identifiable with the broken character import? Otherwise people will assume it's about the endings, which are doing quite well for airtime I think

My ME2 Sheps looked different than they did in ME1, because the graphics were different. That was fine. But that's not the problem here. The problem is that in ME3, they look not just different, but like different people. That's not acceptable.

The Mass Effect series is one of my favorites of all time and I've been waiting years to see my Sheps complete the story. Their appearance is a major part of this and I'm very sad that I can't be happy playing the game I've waited so long for. I'm going to try some of the workarounds that I've seen so far but the fact of the matter is that I shouldn't have to. This is something that shouldn't have been an issue to begin with and I'm very disappointed. I don't really have any illusions that anyone from Bioware will read this but it feels good to vent it out with other people who are also irritated.

Right, I know the gap in graphics is much bigger and different in ME3, and it certainly isn't acceptible to have your Shep become someone you can't recognize. I'm not arguing that this isn't the case for many, many people. But there are also people that see that it's a difference yet still recognize and are even pleased with their (what some might call) upgraded Shep. Even so, the fact that many, many more people have to do a tedious workaround to get as much of their Shepard back as possible... well, they should be paying us for doing the leg work lol! When most of us bought ME3 we didn't expect a kit that needed to be amended with user created mods and apps... we expected the last game of a trilogy that paid off the hundreds of hours each individual invested in playing up to.
Perhaps we should call ME3 the Phantom Menace of the Mass Effect saga
