Issue importing faces into Mass Effect 3 Updated March 21

There is no good reason for a digital game that already had face importation from one game to the next, to suddenly fail to do the same for the next game. It's just code, not a physical person. All they had to do was leave it alone.

Today I convinced my husband to let me try to import his Shep in ME3 after chatting with him about this whole ordeal with the failed face imports. He was not taking the whole thing very seriously, since my Femshep came out pretty much flawless - just needed some very slight tweakings on the CC:
ME1/ME2: http://i41.tinypic.com/5ufhq9.jpg
ME3: http://i41.tinypic.com/5k394y.jpg
So, there we went. We started a new game and imported his Shepard. Game froze a bit, but his choices imported fine. So far so good. And then, the moment of truth - importing his face. And wow, he did not get the error message! Yay! It all went well... Or did it? This is what came out on the screen:
ME1: http://i44.tinypic.com/zmfbci.jpg
ME2: http://i39.tinypic.com/34j7zw2.jpg
And...
ME3: http://i40.tinypic.com/2mnhu1k.jpg
We stared at the screen in disbelief, and then he, bless his kind heart, laughed his ass off while I tried my best to tear my eyes away from the abomination in the screen. He shook his head and said he'd wait for a patch before even considering trying out his Shep.
So, all in all, even though I didn't have problems with mine, I'm hoping for an ETA on this fix. Hope we get one eventually...
Ouch! He looks hideious and no resemblance at all.

It does make her look oddly similar to Pheonix's, post-LOD deletion:

Not quite exactly the same. But close enough to make me thing that when the LODs are re-built, they're populated with a kind of generic set or something.
No eyeball clipping with the re-set LODs, though.
I should add that I don't think Pheonix claimed that this was a fix, or anything. More of an experiment to just see what it is that the LODs do. So, knowing that every face gets re-set to a generic set is a new bit of knowledge.

This is ridiculous, you have done nothing but acknowledge what we already know, it's broken and you MIGHT be able to fix it. You lied when you said it's of top concern - it's clearly more important to discuss how you can get MORE money from us. I'm sick of this - you've betrayed our trust in you and your products, confidence in your ability as developers and integrity as a company with your consumers.
I don't think there's anything else going to happen here guys, how can it - they must know more than they've said, and this no news leads me to believe it's bad news. I'm disgusted even if they do fix it by this shameful lack of respect to their paying customers.
I'll be lurking around and I'll post if I have anymore direct contact with representatives of the company. Asides from that - EA and Bioware, I'm done.

Now, my question is: how the hell does something like this not make it past QA? Did someone just conveniently forget to check on this issue at all? Was the game just shipped knowing this was a problem? Was the guy assigned to testing the import feature only using ME2-based saves? Seriously, W.T.F?!
Not going to dance around the issue, I'm pretty pissed off.

OK, I don't mean to whine --or perhaps I do-- but I think we definitley need a patch out soon! I think that people have been more than patient for this. I am used to having EA games being unplayable. I purchased The Sims 3 for Xbox 360 on launch in 2010 as I am a big fan of The Sims and wanted, furthermore, to show my loyalty. Then what happens? Three months down the line and the game suffers from a game-breaking glitch, making it impossible to save. Many people contacted EA about the issue, including myself, and got nothing but COPY & PASTE solutions and being told to GTFO (not in no many words). It was only when someone created a website, similar to FIX MASS EFFECT 3 that they began to listen. Eventually, they decided to release a half-assed patch which didn't even fix most peoples games. By the time they had released that, I had already recieved a full refund for my game because I was tired of waiting around for them. EA just don't care about their products, nor their customers! They just push their developers to get the game out as fast as they can, even if that means glitches persist.. and then when someone approaches them about the issue, they can't even give you a half-decent reply.
I don't mean to rant, but I have been waiting forever, or so it seems, to play Mass Effect 3, and when it finally comes out, I'm unable to play it. I refuse to play it without my FemShep, because I have grown too attached to her. I'm getting the CAN'T DETECT FACE error by the way. It just saddens me that what should be an epic conclusion, is so far, a disaster. I really hope you get a patch out soon, guys, otherwise I will be forced to get a full refund on the product. But I would rather that not be the case because I REALLY want to play it!
I appreciate that you're looking into it, but it would be nice to have a bit of an update on how much progress you've made.
This times a million. I remember when EA bought BioWare and I was on the GameSpot/GameTrailers forums, everyone was glad that BioWare got away from "the evil Microsoft" empire. I felt like I was the only one who feared the death of what was becoming my favorite sci-fi franchise.
EA has never done anything other than their copy/paste help methods, which never actually work and they just don't care and it seems this behavior has spread to BioWare.
I knew I made a grave mistake buying ME3. When GameStop screwed up my pre-order I was considering just getting back my money and putting it towards The Witcher 2. A true RPG from a developer that cares about it's fans.

Great...
I should've bought this game used. Initially I was on the fence given that pre-order content doesn't interest me that much because typically companies just release the DLC for purchase later on or the DLC that's included for pre-order isn't entirely game changing. But no, I had to think, "Hey, it's the last game might as well go for it. This thing will be awesome."
Well, from here on out I'm buying every game used except maybe a Kojima Pro MGS or Platinum Games game. Those guys know how to turn out a quality product.

They butchered Dragon Age II, Mass Effect 3 and now they supposedly wanna make Baldur's Gate 3?
Stop buying any kind of DLC. Stop buying games from EA at all. This is the end of BioWare as we know... or knew a long, long time ago. It was nice to know you BioWare and EA. To quote some legend that was also butchered recently - rest in pieces.

Never used cloud, and i did use a transfer cable when i bought my slim. this is pissing me off. i want my ME1 story line to continue.
if i knew about this before i would not have bought it. and prothean should not have been dlc (i got collectors edition and got it for free) but that seems lazy and greedy to me.
I'm losing faith EA, i have supported your company from the begining with the NBA Live series (lakers vs. Celtics remember that game?), i have helped make you a rich company. now your ripping us off with your DLC that is available on release day.

I don't know what all this talk of faces is about. I went to the import screen to transfer my ME2 character, I have many to choose from as I've played both ME and ME2 multiple times. To my unwelcome suprise, the list was blank. Apparently I have never played and don't have any profiles for mass effect. My HDD on my xbox will disagree.
The "no saves found" problem is a separate issue, with a separate solution.

Pretty shoddy if you ask me. Didn't expect this from you Bioware, also the whole DLC issue, its the last game! there shouldn't be any extra levels for price, who put you in this position? the fans? you think making the next game in a series is thanks enough for them following you? or maybe you could follow the tried and tested "we like the people who we make games for, lets give them a little extra no cost to us and no cost to them."
Or alternatively don't talk to us... because silence seems to be working real well at calming down the rabids... even just a "we're still here and we're working on it" would be a common courtesy for those waiting avidly to play your game.
For the record I look forward to playing the single player when you fix it, I've waited 2 years for it I can wait a little longer but really you should let us know whats going on! If you can't fix it tell us so we can give up and start a new life.
Thank you

1:Restart your intended Shepard on Mass Effect 2 (2 is very important; you don't have to save)
2:From the appearance customization, select customize
3: PAINSTAKINGLY recreate your Shepard as she/he appears in the previosly accepted face import (this will probably take awhile; trust me, it's worth it; you can return to the face select screen at any time to compare)
4:Record the code for the newly customized shepard face that is a duplicate (as best you can) of the imported face (recomment HDMI as the fidelity can effect the clarity of the code during the recording process)
5:Begin Mass Effect 3
6:Select the save you wish to transfer
7:When the "Cannot accept face import" icon appears, ignore it and enter the free customization screen
8: Enter the code from the reconstructed Shepard from ME2
9: Make such alterations as you feel are necessary to account for story, code recording errors, and/or engine differences (personally I gave my character "scruff" where he was previously clean-shaven)
10:Enjoy your reconstructed, slightly more realistic Shepard
Now I know this isn't a perfect fix by any means, but it worked for me really well. BTW, I love that the customization allows you to make minor modifications to the faces that DO import. I will update this post with pictures once I have them.
Basically, I took This, spent about an hour using that to make This, recorded the Code from it (yes I know the picture's crummy; can't wait to get back home to my high-def TV) and entered it in the Mass Effect 3 character creator screen. After some minor tweaks to fix a typo or two, along with the addition of scruff, and I'm presented with This. (I apologize again for crappy analog). All in all, I'm happy. I would be even more happy if I don't have to go through this rigmarole every time I import, but I am satisfied with my Shepard.
