Okay, I'm very annoyed with this bug, annoyed enough to not play the game until there's a fix. I don't understand how it passed through a QA process of any detectable rigor. I just hope it isn't indicative of the care shown to the rest of the game's quality. Regardless of whether it was an honest bug or it was deliberately ignored, though, this is poor craftsmanship and I expected better from Bioware.

Well, a method I used that is surprisingly effective (While a bit time consuming) is:

1:Restart your intended Shepard on Mass Effect 2 (2 is very important; you don't have to save)
2:From the appearance customization, select customize
3: PAINSTAKINGLY recreate your Shepard as she/he appears in the previosly accepted face import (this will probably take awhile; trust me, it's worth it; you can return to the face select screen at any time to compare)
4:Record the code for the newly customized shepard face that is a duplicate (as best you can) of the imported face (recomment HDMI as the fidelity can effect the clarity of the code during the recording process)
5:Begin Mass Effect 3
6:Select the save you wish to transfer
7:When the "Cannot accept face import" icon appears, ignore it and enter the free customization screen
8: Enter the code from the reconstructed Shepard from ME2
9: Make such alterations as you feel are necessary to account for story, code recording errors, and/or engine differences (personally I gave my character "scruff" where he was previously clean-shaven)
10:Enjoy your reconstructed, slightly more realistic Shepard

Now I know this isn't a perfect fix by any means, but it worked for me really well. BTW, I love that the customization allows you to make minor modifications to the faces that DO import. I will update this post with pictures once I have them.

Thats what I did. It isn't work well for me.

I was upset at first too but I could't wait so I recreated my shep and I'm pretty happy with it! I suggest some of you waiting should do the same hehe (easier said then done)

I agree. Actually from those angles alone I think ME3 version is even better.
Did you follow the face code instructions only or also the gibbed thingie?
Anyway, congratz! :)

Thanks! I just had a screenshot open next to the game and fiddeled with it for an hour haha I think it paid off

Fortunately I had a face code for a very similar character. Good luck to those of you who are still waiting!

Oh? Is it that bad?

P.S.: Only one out of my four Sheps transfered succesfully, and I like the 3 version a lot (with a complection alteration). I've never managed to make a femshep that I'm satisfied with, so that doesn't bother me. My last one I'll have to repeat the process, though I think he needs an upgrade anyway.

I cant import my character at all. Xbox.

Never used cloud, and i did use a transfer cable when i bought my slim. this is pissing me off. i want my ME1 story line to continue.

if i knew about this before i would not have bought it. and prothean should not have been dlc (i got collectors edition and got it for free) but that seems lazy and greedy to me.

I'm losing faith EA, i have supported your company from the begining with the NBA Live series (lakers vs. Celtics remember that game?), i have helped make you a rich company. now your ripping us off with your DLC that is available on release day.

I didn't know that. See that what's happens when your trying to avoid spoilers. If i had knew all of this before and play demo, i would of never brought this game on day 2.

Gotta say- I'm still pretty miffed about this. My "new" FemShep looks similar, but at the same time, nothing like the real deal. It's like watching a sequel to "Twister" with Leelee Sorbieski in it instead of Helen Hunt.

Yup, despite EA's derpy little support problem page, it seems if you used a transfer cable you're screwed too. I had to transfer when my Halo 3 Edition 360 RRoDed. My family bought me the new model. Now EA and Bioware are making me pay for Microsofts 50% failure rate.

THANKS GUYS!

I was happy with doing a basic approximation with all but one character. That's my full on Renegade FemShep with the ME2 cyber scars. It doesn't add the cyber scars in if you are renegade and do the approximation.

Since completing Mass Effect 2 for the first time, my console experienced hardware failure, and I acquired a new one.  For a time, I used the original drive from the failed console, but I later switched to a larger drive and used a transnfer cable to move my saved data.  All of my post-suicide mission Mass Effect 2 saves are detected by Mass Effect 3.

I recommend the steps detailed at http://www.gamefaqs....fect-3/62162976 if Mass Effect 3 is not detecting any of your saved games.

Raaaargh I hate playing as Commander Shepard's not so identical twin Steve... whose face is just off enough to tell the two apart :( I think I will have to play the rest of the characters as the default Shepard from now on...

So.. it has come to this... Bioware caring more about milking a cash cow then fixing a problem? Why don't you just tell us something? even if you say you can't fix it its not like you'll damage your reputation! that's already shot to hell anyways for releasing a game for which a significant portion of the players can't continue their games.

Pretty shoddy if you ask me. Didn't expect this from you Bioware, also the whole DLC issue, its the last game! there shouldn't be any extra levels for price, who put you in this position? the fans? you think making the next game in a series is thanks enough for them following you? or maybe you could follow the tried and tested "we like the people who we make games for, lets give them a little extra no cost to us and no cost to them."

Or alternatively don't talk to us... because silence seems to be working real well at calming down the rabids... even just a "we're still here and we're working on it" would be a common courtesy for those waiting avidly to play your game.

For the record I look forward to playing the single player when you fix it, I've waited 2 years for it I can wait a little longer but really you should let us know whats going on! If you can't fix it tell us so we can give up and start a new life.

Thank you

Actually I believe the downhill started with a four letter word.... well, actually two letters..... EA. The Kiss of Death

Speaking of EA, I was thinking about where they got the name "Origin" from... They were a great game studio that EA axed. The last 3 Wing Commander games they made actually gave you choices on certain things during the cutscenes (which were live action cutscenes with some pretty noticeable actors like Luke Skywalker and Biff Tannen. Also the guy who played the Shredder in the second Ninja Turtles movie, and the black dude who played the judge in Liar Liar w/ Jim Carrey), and any choice you made during the cutscenes could have an effect on something you'd see in the game later. WC4 really went crazy with it, and had many different branching cutscenes based on choices you made.

I'm pretty sure BioWare drew some inspiration from those games for the ME games, especially the whole decision-making aspect. Sure, it's nothing new, but the way the ME games do it is actually very similar.

Not knocking Mass Effect tho, I love this trilogy. Just wish ME3 had ended better.

I just wish ME3 started better by letting me import my freaking FemShep's face with the proper facial structure and everything.

Well people have different standards of what they value.  If you don't care as much then more power to you.  Corma may not.

Hey folks, I have been lurking here for a while because like you I did not want to start the game without my own Shepard that I love so dearly. Yesterday I got sick of waiting because of Bioware's incompetence and used the fantool thing to get a ME2 facecode. The result was good in terms of bone structure, way off for the rest. Then I tweaked it for about 30 minutes. And the results is beyond my hope. This is EXACTLY my Shepard. I played today for a couple of hours and when I saw him in the cutscenes and all that, it was my character I was seeing, nothing off bugging me. Just plain fun. Here is a picture (disregard the eye color which became dark in the ME2 shot for some reason, it was always blue):

So stoked it worked out. So for those saying it is impossible to get a perfect replicaof your original Shepard, I say it is not if you get the correct bone structure with the fan-made tool! Then you tweak brows, nose, hair, complexion, etc...Anyway, the result was amazing for me<3
