So you never played ME1 and ME2 and tried to import your faces into ME3? Didn't you realize this problem in testings or you did yet not cared? You suppose people, customers and consumers are ready to accept everything you give them?
They knew people would be outraged which is why they didn't mention a word about this issue even though it was a known issue for some time now. We had a thread about this go for over 100 pages in this forum and not a single Bioware rep acknowledged the problem until the game was released and they had collected their $. This is something I would expect from EA but not Bioware. The lines that distinguished both companies have become blurred.

This is one of the biggest let downs in my history of gaming. here I am ready to play a game I have been waiting for since completing the last mass effect. I pop in the game type in my code, download a patch and go to load my ME2 file.... and then I get an error that my character wont load. I actually felt ill. I actually missed seeing my "girl" Sheppard. Its good news that this has been addressed, but what a massive let down. I will not play this until this is patched, That's how much I care about playing my character again, I guess all these responses is credit to how much we have invested in this character and being able to create the Sheppard we wanted. So much for a March 6th release date. As far as i'm concerned the game isn't out until this patch. Please dear god make this happen soon.
*waiting....
Wow I thought I was the only one that actually felt a little ill when it happened.
Of course I tried my best to remake my shep and just started playing it ,but in the end it just doesn't feel or look right.

I won't be able to play the game until this is fixed and of course the longer I wait the more at risk I am of being spoiled. I was so excited when UPS dropped it off and I popped it into my XBOX. Then I got the error. Massive letdown.
For those of us who did make a custom Shep, having it not carry over is like having the actor who plays Luke Skywalker changed in Episode VI and acting like nothing has changed. It's just not acceptable. :/
Geez, and the one time I buy at launch too. I got ME 1 much later after it was released and was still working on it when ME 2 came out, so I got that too later. This certainly has burned me on buying at launch now, at least from Bioware.

It's 360 as well, may also be impacting some PS3 users (not totally sure on that last part). We have no idea when a patch will be coming. The OP of this thread is basically all the info we have,
It does not affect PS3 owners because Mass Effect never came out for PS3.

After you upload it with your Sheperd name, is anything meant to happen? Kind of at a dead end and instructions kind of cease at that point too.

When I import such a save, the face cant import. (all my saves with an ME1 imported face have this problem)
When the code is showing in ME2, the face imports, badly, but it do.
Luckyly I wrote the facecode down after the creation in ME2 ...
What bugs me most is, the facecode do not import properly. I gues this is in large part due to different coding. My femshep imported like some mutant degenerate. I spent a lot of time recreating her, to no avail. In the end, I imported the face anew and increased facial structure value by 2 and voila, mainshep back online. I even could improve the parts around her mouth, as ME3 CC seems to be more subtle.

Anyone who has got that yaml file from the tool in the first post:

If you'll note on masseffecttools.99k.org/index.php there are links at the top for both upload and code. The name you put in on the upload is for retrieving your face code information, so make it something distinct. Then hit the appropriate code page for your shepard's gender, and enter the name you entered on upload.
Make sure you note which character settings it doesn't parse in, it denotes them with a note. You'll have to change some manually. Also, some things with hair color aren't quite right, as it parsed out the wrong one for me. Everything else about my shepard was fine after fixing that though.

Yes, you can then search for your named Shepard's facecode, on another part of the site.

Follow the instructions there. It's not perfect, but its what we have.

The problem is clearly widespread, there is absolutely no denying it, which begs the question: why oh why, was this game allowed to ship with such a serious bug?
Doesn't much of what makes Mass Effect unique as a franchise hinge on the fact that the player truly believes that HIS/HER Commander Shepard is THE Commander Shepard, and not just another voiceless RPG avatar? Isn't Mass Effect a franchise known very specifically for its ability to carry over the player's character from game to game? If so, why is it that this is the one thing that is so catastrophically screwed up in ME 3 for so many players?
This is absolutely outrageous, and is something that is completely unacceptable for a game and developer of this caliber. There is already a huge uproar, and we are less than a day into the release date. Every day that passes by without fixing the problem will only make it worse.

It is pretty disappointing that nobody in Bioware played through all three games with the same Shepard.
It's hard to believe that nobody did considering it's the core concept of the game....progessing your character through different installments with your decisions impacting the outcome. This leads one to believe that they've known about this issue for longer than we can imagin, and yet, they stayed silent with no clue on how to fix it. I imagin we will not be seeing a patch anytime soon if ever. Of course, Bioware/EA won't tell us if that's the case.

I was willing to forgive Bethesda over the whole Skyrim PS3 debacle, so Bioware's not going to lose my business because of one thing. Especially, considering that they've usually put out some polished games. However, I'm not going to say that I am not pissed off over this issue. I just don't know how they were able to let this slip. I guess that's what happens when you get a company like EA take over. I'm not saying that EA is an evil company, but they definitely care more about making money than spending a little extra time on fixing big issues.
I'll give it three to four days 'till we get a patch.

The bigger problem is that the Shepards I recreated for ME 2 also don't import right. These seem like two separate problems. I didn't notice at first because I assumed the face looking a little different could be attributed to the engine change. But even though the code is the same, my main Shepard came out looking somewhat different.
For example, he appeared with black hair when it was clearly brown in the second game. I can change it back to brown but it was just one thing, and I don't know how else he may have changed. Similarly, one of my other femSheps seems to have a different slightly different hair and possibly eye color.
So did half the customization options just vanish or are we ever going to get them back? For example that new female hair style they added in for ME 2 (the one that Nef had) seems to be gone. I've noticed if I try changing the code in the screen it will skip over several intervals soemtimes. One of the values (hair color I think) switches from 3 to 6 if you increase it by one. And trying to type in anything in between those numbers results in it just defaulting to one.

Rather than add to previous options in the Character Creator Bioware opted to just replace them and shuffle them around which is what's causing all of the problems.
This. Hair options - replaced. Eye colour - replaced. Eye shadow - replaced.
Hell, even the default female eye shape has been replaced with something more... rigid
Here's a pic Metal Dragon Kiryu made:

See how unsmooth the new default eyes are? And the lack of makeup options (yes those are ALL of the different shades you get).
And what's up with the eye lashes clipping with the brow during conversations all the time, and the lower lashes being so lush compared to the upper lashes?? :/
