Hi Everyone
I get messages asking me when the next Mass Effect 3 patch will be coming and when "X" problem will be fixed. I thought it might be a good idea to give you some insight into how a patch is made so that you understand more about the patching process.
Everything starts with help from customers like you who report issues here on the BSN or to our EA Custmer Service people.
These issues are then reported to the Mass Effect 3 team and they begin to investigate the issue.
The team tries to reproduce the issue
They then figure out what is causing the issue
They then work to fix whatever the cause of the issue is. This can take a short or long time depending on how difficult it is to fix the issue.
Once they have a fix, they test it thoughoughly in the game. They also test to make sure that the fix does not effect the game in some unexpected manner or introduce new issues.
Once a collection of issues are fixed by the team it is put into a patch and sent off to EA and our partners at Microsoft and Sony for whats is called Certification. They also run tests to make sure that our fix works and that it does not introduce any new issues to the game or their systems.
If AT ANY POINT in this testing and Certification process a problem is detected, the patch is sent back to us and process begins again until it is fixed.
Once the patch has passed certification, it is released to the public via Origin, Xbox and Playstation.
[/list]All bugs are investigated by the team and are prioritized in a process called triage. Bugs are triaged based on how important they are to the game and how many people are encountering them. This means an issue can be extremely important if it effects a lot of people OR that an issue that effects a few people, but prevents them from playing the game can both be equally important. The team works to fix as many issues as possible in a given patch process.
I want to reassure you all that BioWare IS working on fixing the issues you are reporting and we are working on patching to get you the fixes ASAP. We appreciate your patience and assistance as we work to resolve these issues.

I guess "X" problem is this one? Why don't you just admit it. Why would you hide the very details people are demanding by filing it under problem "X" and posting it on a new thread very few people will likely even read. The number of responses in THIS thread are huge compared to the others. The biggest issue by far is this one (i haven't read any other technical problems that generated a 200+ and growing facebook group and forum thread with 3000+ replies).
Did you ever even study PR? I'm not joking, you are breaking every single rule I can think of... The first thing to do in any scandal (whether perceived or real) is to be completely honest and explain exactly what is happening. You need to admit you guys messed up by not informing us of this before we bought the game. If you would have admitted up front that you guys handled this the wrong way people would have forgiven you. And if you would have explained the complexity of the patching proccess in the original post or update, most people would be less worried and angry that they wasted their money. I can't stress enough how important it is to be completely transparent. If people think you are hiding something or avoiding communication, you will build resentment. I mean this is 101 stuff man.
I am not attacking you personally. I don't even know who you are or what control, if any, you have over what you can say or not say in these forums but this is the wrong way man. You could have easily stopped this a week ago in my opinion. Don't patronize us and tell token customer service lines like "you appreciate our patience". Especially when it is obvious we are anything but patient. Be a man, speak from the heart, and most importantly let everyone know every detail you can possibly think of about how this issue is being handled (including a ball park release date). I am not exaggerating. When in doubt, inform us. No one will fault you for saying a little extra information. A lack of information is what will sink you. Do what's right and worry about what your bosses will think after you do that.

where do i find my sheps "face code" in me2/me1? im playing on 360 btw.
Try using these instuctions:
http://social.biowar...64/blog/211646/
I've used them, and after 20 minutes of using the face code and of tweaking, I finally 'remade' my Shepard.
The codes aren't very accurate but it gives you a good base to work from. You will have to tweak the skin colour, complextion, nose, eye color, hair, and anything else to make your Shepard look like 'your' Shepard.
And to contribute my opinion on this whole affair:
I am quite annoyed that faces cannot be imported but,in the end, we're all human. And humans make mistakes. Whether they be tragic or not, we all learn from them. So be patient and have faith.

At least 1 month more to get a possible "fix" that probably won't fix at all the real problem being discussed in this thread. Sad, but true.

I really hope they tell us exactly what the patch will do at some point in the future. Prep me for disappointment before it comes out.

Being ignored, hardly they made a statement about it. Until they have a patch set for release there's nothing more to be said about the issue. I wouldn't address anything about it on this cluter **** of a thread if I were BW. It's full of irrationality and overly emotional hate filled BS. ''Keeping us contained'' I hope that's a joke. Such absurdity here, it's been little over a week since release. A WEEK. A lot of you need to learn some patience and lose this sense of entitlement.
Sorry, but my sense of entitlement cost 80 bucks. I think I payed enough for a complete game on the day it came out, not a few weeks afterwards.
Agreed! I'm entitled to a game whose core function throughout the series was it's char import feature. So, please don't tell me to be patient. I paid 80 bucks for my game and will be heard. Get off the devs tool claiming "it's only been a week since release." This core function should have been complete and ready to go.

My result from messing around with gibbed's editors:

And the updated comparison:

Still not looking quite like my old char, but it is getting there. Anyone know how to tweak eyebrow thickness?
Anyway, my thanks to all who have taken the time to document the available methods, wouldn't have come this far without their help. (Pheonix52gx, ELE08, jkthunder & others).

Ha, wonder if this is a forum moderator letting off some steam on an off-account. Why is your profile private dude, why can't we see what you post? You seem a little too offended to be a random fan boy.
And by the way, this is a HUGE thread. 60,000 views dwarfs all of the other ones. And a facebook group with 200+ growing followers (its only been a week) about a TECHNICAL ISSUE should scare the crap out of anyone who made this game.

Bioware Damage Control is very lacking, and it seems it always has been.
From what I can tell, they tend to either ignore or censor criticism. And it looks like they're taking baby steps towards fixing that problem.
They're not ignoring or censoring us for now. The updating and transparency is still far, far away.
We're talking like, "four more catastrophically bugged releases" type of far, far away.
Fortunately for me, I won't give them any more of my money.

I know. I really used to defend them when people got all riled up over their crap customer service skills. This time it's different though. I think a lot of people who have held out making a judgement are going to turn, and this is gonna kill them next game. Forget any huge preorder sales like they have had in the past. And word of mouth is crucial for games, especially original titles Bioware might want to persue in the future. And their Mass Effect movie they're planning is doomed if their base boycotts it. I imagine people will find a way to download it if they really want to see it rather than watch Bioware suck up another dime.
I really am sticking to never buying another Bioware game again. Maybe I will rent it a long time after release (and only if I hear good things from customers), but no more buying it the second it has come out. They've completely lost my trust. They get green lighted for new games after a huge opening for a newly released game. If they get a bad opening in sales, EA will be reluctant to let them work on a new project.
Don't let this slide guys.

I am still VERY surprised that this issue slipped through the cracks, but as Ka-nan said people make mistakes. This just happens to be a rather big one.
This issue did not "slip through the cracks". I am a game dev myself and know that during the testing process there is absolutely no way a problem this big could slip through the cracks. BioWare/EA blantantly released the game well aware of the fact that it did not function correctly.
This is why it's such a big middle finger to all Mass Effect long-time fans.

Why do you think they recently announced they're working on another Baldur's Gate?
Nostalgia is one hell of a drug.
I wasn't planning on watching their movie, anyway. The whole appeal of the ME games is the opportunity to play your Shepard the way you want to, and the movie is supposed to be based on the first game?
What?
Take away the player, and all you've got is a mediocre science fiction story.
I certainly hope people won't fall for the nostalgia, or somehow forgive Bioware the moment we get an update as though none of this ever happened.
I'm not saying this is the case, but it certainly doesn't look like they're taking this very seriously, due to their silence.

I want to be able import my ME2 face onto my EXISTING ME3 character, not have to start a new character. Perhaps a machine on the Normandy, or a side mission to some sort of facility that has the tech to do this. Give option to import face from precious game onto existing character. Straight up, I'm not starting over...
I agree with this. I've done a decent job recreating my FemShep from ME1 and ME2, using photos and working with ME3's customizations. But I'd love to be able to simply import the old appearance on top of this one, so that it will be perfect when Bioware offers a patch. I'm thinking something like the mirror in DA2 available in the Black Emporium DLC. It could appear in the Captain's Cabin and would be a great way to fix the issue.

Yeah! Screw character continuity and all of that stuff. In fact, nothing from ME1 and ME2 should have imported because nobody cares about that. In fact you should only be able to play as Sheploo. But it's still so awesome you're not allowed to complain about it.

Why, hello there, Chris.
I'm afraid I disagree with you, since this is a pretty huge import bug that has issues importing even the default Shepard's face, and messes up the choices made in ME-1 and ME-2 playthroughs.
I don't really think you're Chris, or a Bioware employee, and I'm glad you enjoy your game, but I'm very sorry and disappointed that you lack the empathy/social skills to see how most people have an issue with not being able to play the game they paid $60-75 for as it's been advertised.

Wow relax.
I see him as only an informer and not actually a dev (and seems you are treating him like one)
he's just doing what he was told to do. Nothing more nothing less.
It's the "high command people" of bioware who's in charge of whether releasing "info about the udpates" or not so blame them instead of him. In that case , Bioware is the one who's using bad his RP guys.
So relax, try to see the positive point
it's been almost 2 weeks since we don't have any news and now we have one (barely) but we have one and that's what it matters.
So wait and you will,i and all of us will get the patch that we are waiting for .
