No you can't. They removed options. It's not just lost in the code. It's not just a bug, it was a design choice by the game designers.

Not everyone played as boring ass default male Shepard. One of the main reasons I bought Mass Effect 1 in the first place was because I could create a female character and create a custom face.

Any more updates on this?

I really DON'T want to play the campaign again without my imported Sheps, so I'm sitting on a more-or-less MP exclusive title for me at the moment.

There is no real hope here. Just a lot of waiting around. I just remade my face to look as close as possible and will move on and be done with it.

Regardless, in my opinion, Bioware simply took on an incredibly difficult feat with this series and to expect it to be perfect is nice and fluffy, but I imagine it's damn hard. I'm not justifying this thread still not being updated, despite so many requests and efforts on the consumer's part, or the perhaps even worse oversight of the game not shipping with this feature working properly.

Bottom line though, it's a game, I've thoroughly enjoyed the 1st and the 2nd, I'll enjoy the 3rd as much as is possible. This whole situation creates a new image of Bioware in my brain; One that does not deserve the hype, the pre-orders, the emotional investment, and like all who already bought the game (hopefully) there will be no short-term memory on display for future products.

There is a line, and it has been crossed. That is all.

What part of 'your data cannot be imported' is a graphical error?

yeah, you are right. sorry, didnt realise that wasting such a huge ammount of time..... like..... 3 minutes? to create new face is just too much for the most of the community.

I urge everyone to try the community fix if you haven't already. I'm on Xbox 360 and it was quite straightforward once I followed all the steps laid out here:

http://social.biowar...64/blog/211646/

Just a few notes from my experience:

- Take a few pics from all angles of your character in the ME2 Character Creator, you'll need these if you need to tweak anything (which you likely will)

- The hardest part of recreating your character will be the overall face structure; ear position, eye positon, gaunt, cheeks, chin shape, etc... There's so many variables. However, the code seems to maintain these.

- What it doesn't maintain is eye colour, hair colour, hair type, nose type and some other minor features and maybe complexion. With a little bit of tweaking (and referencing photos) you can get your Shep back to an acceptable point.

- That said, if your character used any of the features that were removed, you'll need to see if they have a similar asset. Otherwise, you won't be able to get them the same. I had to compromise on hair colour (as I've harped on about, there's no ginger any more) and nose shape a little bit but he looks pretty good.

- FInally, the character creation lighting is really awful so it's worth getting them to a point where they look decent enough and then play the opening of the game, the cutscene AFTER the "Mass Effect" title is the one where I felt my Shep actually looked very familiar to me, albeit with darker red hair. They also look different because the graphics have improved and BioWare have removed the film grain option so everything is plastic looking.

So that's my recommendation, it's not 100% effective, but it's worth a shot and it may save you some grief if a fix isn't found.

Question; if you have that attitude, why are you even posting in this thread? You're not helping and you're clearly not here for help.

People get attached to THEIR character, which you can't always recreate because (if you bothered to read most of the posts) the assets have been removed and ME3 doesn't import raw data like ME2 did.

I'm not really the MMO type, but I was having fun playing through the stories in SWTOR.  But, trying to play it again after this....ehhhhh.

It's not that I like Ye Olde Republic any less because this happened.  All the other Bioware games that I've always liked, I still like.  But the thing with a subscription-based game is that I have to keep giving additional money to Bioware for it.  And at this point, I just feel like a sap giving them money even for products I have no problem with.

So, sub cancelled.

Maybe even if I never play ME3, I'll someday feel OK with buying other Bioware stuff.  But not today.

And just to be clear, what's turning me off is that after a week and a half and this huge thread, Bioware hasn't said a single word about this issue, even to acknowledge it.  (I don't have an ME1 created face or a ME2 NG+ import, so that doesn't apply to me.)

Oh well, it's about time for my springtime playthrough of Jade Empire anyway...

If this is your top priority, I can safely say you're incompetent.

I think what pisses people off most is that it could have been perfect. Instead of adding multiplayer, which nobody really asked for, they could have put more money and resources into testing the game. Plus, they already delayed the game from November to March, so they had extra time.

I'm not angry at BioWare as such, I'm disappointed. Since they were taken over by EA, it's like watching my best friend as the victim in an abusive relationship and it makes me very sad to watch.

Incorrect, we have the skills, it's Bioware who are incompetent for removing the assets.

It's not a small issue, it is a clear and unmissable design error that fundamentally breaks a key feature of the series hyped up since 2005/2006. It strikes at the very heart of what the trilogy was about.

Can I recreate the face pretty closely? Sure. However, I don't like being ripped off for a broken game, I refuse to buy until it's fixed and if they don't fix it when I do buy it will be used.

BioWare are theives and liars for hushing this up and just expecting people to pay full price when every other game in the store doesn't have errors that break promised core features. It insults me to have this marginalized.

I havent played the game, i bought it last week but im not playing until this is fixed. But because ive opened the box and entered the code inside, Theres no way i can get my money back at full price. that really sucks, because nowadays if a company that wants my money screws me over just to make a buck, I dont buy anything from them anymore, and generally tell everyone i know to avoid them. Thats how it normally works, if it was a faulty dvd for 8 pounds I wouldnt be so miffed, but £40 is a lot of dough. Some people say its not important its only a game, theyre right. So I wont buy any more games from these guys until they are in the bargain bin or on ebay, and certainly after ive read the forums re bugs. Kinda takes the magic away but no way am I buying a new game from them again.

Why would they care? The shocking thing about this is it makes no sense, it's so easy to have planned it out such that this wouldn't have happened. Whoever dropped the ball on this should be cleaning out his desk because it's ****ing despicable and ****ing ridiculous how easy it was to avoid.

Yep.... one thing that confuses me is why we needed a new default FemShep....unless of course BW's target was 95% new gamers, 5% long-term fans!!

If you watch the launch trailer, one tag line is " A great entry into the series" er, no it isn't....it'd be like me watching Return of The Jedi first!!

Oh, I think this vid sums up how we all feel....

I didn't get the error message, but my FemShep looked like she fell out of the ugly tree, and hit every branch on the way down, then got ran over by a truck, then all the cargo in the back fell on her face, and flattened it!!

You want to see how she looked before ? Check this out.

I can't even "reconstruct" this face because there is no black lipstick in ME3

I second this and, like I said before, I'm nitpicky and thought this method worked relatively well.

I get it, especially the last couple of lines -- trust me. So many fond memories, ME1 and ME2 included, still love many of their former projects, but this almost feels like a sort of a paradigm shift.

This seems to mark the end of an era for BioWare, some might say that specific era ended much sooner; I'm not as qualified to tell, as per the ME series, this is basically where you prove what you're made of, what all of those years of hard work amount to. ME3 doesn't have to be perfect, or even close. It's a bunch of writers who may or may not be present on future titles, same goes for most of the overall dev team.

What I'm currently looking at is how they're handling it. For me that is what gives us anything to go on in the future.
So obviously, one might say this problem isn't important enough, I don't necessarily disagree, game's changed, I have more than enough of my own imagination to apply to, say, why the face won't look 100% the same, but I see that it's incredibly important to so many people and I can understand why, and being ignored like this just feels...plain ugly. Ugly is a harsh word, but with all due respect, that's just how this feels -- ugly.
