Hey all. I just wanted to say that the YAML method can work, you just need to tweak the hair color/ nose shape/ facial hair color/ and complexion. It appears some things got changed nonetheless and it might be impossible to get exactly the right shep, but here are my (hopeful) results:

Mass effect 2 (mass effect 1 looked exactly the same)

Mass effect 3

In the squad screen they look very similar!

Unfortunately, especially ingame it is obvious the eyes have been changed, but there simply is no setting that gives a better match. The old eye shape from ME2 just doesn't exist anymore.

I don't care at all for the DLC controversy. If it had been included on the disc we would have had to wait longer for the game to be released. You see, it has to be confirmed by Microsoft and Sony and then produced into discs. Now during that time they finished the DLC.

I'm having a hard time understanding this problem though. It is gamebreaking and as along time Bioware fan I'm deeply concerned.

I'm absolutely disgusted by how long this fix is taking. I understand a big patch may take a long time but considering this problem was known about before release I don't get why it hasn't been fix yet. What REALLY gets me going is we haven't gotten any kind of update on the issue in over a week. I've tried the YAML method but it just isn't close enough. I've been using the same Shepard since 2007. I tried to replace her but I turned the game off in disgust. I'll be returning the game if it's not fixed ASAP.

All I have to say is "Who were the beta testers?" If they'd used real fans of the games this would have been caught day #1!

What kind of update would make you happy?  "Hey everyone, we're still working on this."  Because that would be fairly redundant; why wouldn't they still be working on this?  We already know they are.

At this point that would help the most to be honest because its the lack of information that drives people mad.

<snip>

But I remain hopeful that they can do something with the headmorphs.  Phoenix and Woodbyte's work seem to give some hope in that BioWare might be able to do something.  It just comes down to knowing the right "formula" possibly to make the translation.  If not then they should just communicate that to us so we can move on.

I agree. I am following the blog (http://faceeffect.blogspot.com/) with interest, because it makes all the difference to get some insight into the actual issues.

After Casey Hudson's statement today regarding DLC, and potential post ending content, this "bug" almost seems like a blessing in disguise. I haven't played, so I don't have a solid opinion on the ending, but hell if they add to it or change it in some way...I'll just wait for that (provided the face thing ever gets fixed).

I've basically just gone into "pretend it isn't out" mode. Ultimately, how this issue is solved will shape how I do business with Bioware/EA in the future. I don't mind supporting DLC for this game, provided it ever becomes a playable product for me.

Does anybody have any idea if this femshep look is possible to create with any method?

They haven't yet said that they're working on this.  Or looking into it, or one word about it at all.  So that's the kind of update that would make me happy.

You could try this method:

http://social.biowar...64/blog/211646/

It works sometimes. It likely won't give you the correct hair, eyes, nose or certain colours but the structure of the face (which is the hardest to do from scratch) should be correct with the code. With a bit of tweaking, you should be able to get it very close.

Yeah, exactly.  I mean, if they had delayed the release in order to fix this, which I would have preferred...then it wouldn't be out yet.  So as far as I'm concerned, it isn't.  (And for that matter, it may never be released at all.)

And yeah, my later playthroughs of ME2 were done after all the DLC was out.  For that reason they were kinda smoother than my first one, since in that case I went back long after I finished it to do the new stuff.  So if this does get fixed, it might be a good thing in a way if it takes a while.

so..... you dont play because of
face.......? i dont really see why to be sentimental over face, just
create new. god this is so lame and pathetic. i dont want to insult you
but it just is.

Not everyone played as boring ass default male Shepard. One of the main reasons I bought Mass Effect 1 in the first place was because I could create a female character and create a custom face.

yeah, you are right. sorry, didnt realise that wasting such a huge ammount of time..... like..... 3 minutes? to create new face is just too much for the most of the community.

Insulting individuals posting here will not correct the development oversight that has resulted in this conversation.

I went from this in ME2, to this in ME3, just by doing that.

So...didn't work in my case.

Everyone who is just getting here, reading just the first and last page, then sharing their successfully copied faces and how they did it to demonstrate that you can easily copy over your face from ME2, and thus people should stop complaining so much in their opinion, is starting to annoy me.

I know they're just trying to help (combined with wanting to show how much smarter they are), but it's really starting to get old...how many times does Clarian have to show his unsuccessful face import using the YAML "fix" to get the point across that we all already know about the so called YAML "fix" and don't need to be told about t again, because it doesn't work very well for many?

Now that I'm over the shock and confusion of the sketchy quality of the ending, I would like to take the rest of my Shepards through ME3. But first this issue needs to get fixed because I refuse to reconstruct another face when I shouldn't have to. Please fix this soon.

I will say though, this isn't as bad as dragons flying backwards and no resists, at least your bugs haven't topped Bethesda yet.

It is far worst. I can't even start playing! Only one positive effect is that I learn every combat technics through MP.

Okay, if it makes you feel better, I have this exact same problem and I left a Facebook message on their wall, and they said they would look into it and pass my information onto the dev team.  That was last week.  They've acknowledge it.

They haven't acknowledged it here.  So, that would make me happy.  (Or responded to me personally by the other avenues that I've contacted them.)

Well, for what it's worth, here's what I wrote on the official ME Facebook page on March 7th:

"I was wondering, are you guys going to fix the ME3 character creator? I noticed that, rather than adding extra options, you replaced them with new ones (e.g. eye colour, eye shadow, hair). Are you going to bring the original options back? Also, the new default eyes for femshep have been replaced with something much more rigid. It'll be a shame if this doesn't get fixed because it's difficult to enjoy your game when your Shepard looks so different."

Their reply:

"We appreciate your concern. We'll be sure to forward your feelings to our dev team for consideration. Thanks for your input Andrew! :)"

Sounds like a standard response, but at least they're aware of it.  Was impressed that they responded in less than 10 minutes.

In any case, I'm satisfied with what Chris Priestly has said since - they're obviously working on this and we just have to wait and see what they've managed to fix.  There's no point in them saying exactly what they're going to fix because there's no guarantee they'll be able to, so why commit to saying anything about that and giving false hope?  They can only confirm what they've fixed once they've made the patch - before that, they can only say what it is they'll look into.

Well another weekend spent reading posts about a broken mass effect 3, instead of playing. Not what I had in mind when i tried to play on release day.

That is something at least, thanks for posting that.

I'd feel better, though, to see their response to an actual image, since that's a bit less abstract.  The tweet I sent had a link to my image, and that got no response.

And I'd add that, given how many people have posted about it here, they should respond on the forum as well, since not everyone uses facebook.

Less eyemakeup on ME3 Shep, of course.

I hope this helps!

I just want my shepard's face and finish the game once and for all, after that i won't buy anything from boware again, no dlcs, and no other games, the old good times of Knights of the old republic now are gone.

I will finish this game because i need to, this adventure starts 4 years ago and i just need to know the ending BUT i won't give you more money again.

BAD THINGS:

1.- Loyal FANS cannot import their custom FACES
2.- 1 single ending no matter how many decisions you made in me1 and me2
3.- Lack of decisions

GOOD THINGS:

1.- Multiplayer
2.- Improved combat mode (sword adition)

Bioware & Bethesda to my black list no more money for you guys :) see yaa and best of luck thanks for the old good times of kotor, Jade Empire, neverwinter nights and baldurs gates ;P
