why no updates on this issue?

I still can't believe that this bug got through testing and certification.

I can't further believe that it is now March 18th and it has not been addressed.

The answer is they dont care.  Period.  They have decided to ignore the problem.

I still cannot believe I have bought Mass Effect 3 and I cannot play it.

I too am starring at my copy.  I am going to return my copy soon though.  I was thinking of making a youtube video of returning the copy to best buy.  Maybe another way for bioware to address this issue.  I don't make youtube videos and maybe suggest this to anyone else that's planning on returning their copy.  Anyone willing to try this?

Couldn't wait any longer so I started a new game a few days ago. I played through the beginning part of Mass Effect 2 and completely remade my character in the CC until it was an exact match. Copy and pasted the face code into Mass Effect 3, did a little bit of tweaking, and hey presto! I got a face. Oddly though, my FemShep actually looks BETTTER in ME3 o.O

any pics?

im gathering a collection of face codes i like the look of just incase they dont fix this....plus its how i got my ME2 femshep, found a good face and kept re-using it on all my femsheps (with changes obviously)

WTF?! I finally overcame my "ending" depresion and tried to import one of my other 5 Shepards and guess what? NONE of their faces convert over!?! So not only DON'T I want to play ME3, I CAN'T! Great job Bioware; How could you possible miss not being able to import replayed ME2 characters?!?

Don't give in, we are winning. Everytime you find yourself falling off the wagon remember that in the end you are only enabling future screw ups. Origin tracks playtime and everytime we go back to play ME3 our playtime is recorded and sent back to Bioware.

What would (an admitedly less cool) Shepard do? Would he/she let the EAxian/Bioware powers mess up the long dream of completing the trilogy simply because they didn't feel like completing the job. Would Shepard (or maybe her dorky, significantly less tough cousin) allow her creator to develop her dream for a year without even considering she might want to have her face back. Would Shepard' let someone take her lunch money in exchange for a crappy Lunchables box with the Reeces Cup mysteriously missing. Would this Shepard buy the excuse that the Reeces cup was absent from the Lunchables due to an unforseen bug in the Lunchable box programming code.

Would he/she put up with this fiasco? The answer is no. She would kick Bioware in the balls for +55 Renegade and throw EA down the Normandy's zero gravity toliet and vent it into space.

The facebook group jumped another hundred yesterday. We are killing them guys. This is the turning point in this stupid war we never wanted to fight. Let's keep it up.

I felt happy at first (natural reaction I suppose), but then slowly drifted toward sadness.

I still think anyone who wants to play should play.  Because: to the extent you're tempted to play, you don't really consider this a screw-up.  If your Shep doesn't look like your Shep but that ultimately doesn't bother you, then, the next time they do it, it won't bother you either.  So, no reason to abstain.

Even though I find it bizarre, it does seem like the people who do care are a pretty small minority.  This issue has gotten the least press out of all the controversies...when to me, it should have gotten the most.  At least until it was fixed.  The face code error itself got some headlines, but the "Shepard doesn't look like Shepard" stuff...pretty much nothing.

That's why I've found this thread so comforting, because there have been so many people expressing my exact same thoughts and feelings.  But beyond here...not so much, it seems.

But, I won't be playing myself.  I don't have the tiniest scrap of temptation to, after seeing how my Sheps look.  It's actually encouraging to think that Origin will register my utter lack of play time. :)

One of the core features of ME is broken in ME3 and they haven't even announced a fix for it. This games deserves bad reviews just based on that and then add all the other complaints like being forced to play their second rate multiplayer since it affects the outcome of the single player among others. Those low scores are very just.

I still haven't caved in and played my singleplayer game yet. At first I figured id be happy just playing the multiplayer while i waited for them too fix this, but seems Im getting sick of multiplayer now too, which is a shame because I spent $150 on this stupid pre-ordered collectors addition, went too my local game store at 11pm too wait in line too pick it up the moment it was released. All that effort just too get a kick in the face for the singleplayer and a repetative and somewhat pointless multiplayer feature which gets boring very quickly. I suppose Iv learnt my lesson though of what Bioware have now become, so its no more pre-orders or midnight/firstday pickups when it comes too their games. Really I am more upset with Bioware then I am with ea, mostly because they are not letting anyone know whats going on.

Isn't the facecode error the same as "Shepard doesn't look like Shepard". It's easy to forget due to their dishonest PR but the facecode error is not an error. An error in computer game programming is due to bad code that is actually written into the game. They never intended to have us be able to import our ME1 charachters into ME3. For whatever reason, they simply never got around to making ME1 Shepards portable into ME3, even though they set the precedent for this in ME2. It would have been so easy to do this if they would have done it from day 1. It would have probably been one of the quickest aspects of the game to code. But instead they just ignored it and now it will take weeks to fix it if they even get around to it.

I disagree with your belief that this problem is under represented, although you are certainly entitled to your opinion. The facebook group grew by 100 yesterday, which is pretty amazing considering it was only 300 something yesterday. More people are going to find out, not everyone is on the forums but this forum thread is actually one of the most viewed on this site.

I caved in and played. I know, I know. I am hanging my head in shame that I could not hold out!

I got the facecode error. Tried to find the code, tried the workaround a couple times. It made me really frustrated and sad. I read that some people on here think we should just do the workaround. I disagree. Frankly, it is not my job and I paid my money.

Every cut-scene reminded me that it was not my Shepard. The game is amazing though. I did not take things seriously with my ImposterShep. Now I am back to waiting for a fix so I can "really" play the game.

I would send Chris a box of donuts if I could. What a stressful job he has. I do not blame him for the fix and neither should anyone else. Personal attacks are balls. You're better than that, people.

Having said that, I AM on the better endings bandwagon. I am still expecting a fix for the facecode. I am not buying From Ashes DLC and I probably won't buy any further DLC.

Happy Late ST.Patrick's Day!

Well, I didn't get an error message, but my Shepards don't look like themselves. So they seem to be separate to that extent.

If they make it so ME1 faces import the same way that ME2 ones currently do - by translating them to the nearest equivalent ME3 cc assets - then no one would get error messages, but a lot of Shepards still wouldn't look like Shepard.

I could swear I read somewhere that the ME1 face import was working in earlier builds, but then, evidently, something else changed to mess it up. I can't remember at all where I saw that, though.

That's good to hear. And yeah, the ratio of that to EA's fan count is impressive. But it just blows my mind that this wasn't the top headline on gaming sites on launch day. Or the day after.

Just finished testing a few other of my Sheps, none of them work, and in fact, one of them imports saying I lost half my squadmates in the suicide mission.

I lost zero. All of my playthroughs of ME2, I had always managed to save everyone. Needless to say I'm a bit miffed. It also inaccurately reflects my Wrex/Virmire decision, and my Maelon's Data decision.

Great work on the importer, Bioware. I refuse to believe no one tested it. I fully believe it was tested, reported to EA as broken, and EA reported back: "Low priority, push through, low impact."

Oops. Looks like it wasn't so low impact, after all.

How did this not come up as a problem before you shipped the game?

This sums up what has me most worried about EA/Bioware right now.  It's like there is no voice in the room saying this might not work, or this is a problem.  Were all of the editors on vacation after the game was completed?

A completely related (in spirit) side-note. Sorry if this has been posted before. How fitting is it that Chris Priestly has "The Illusive Man" as his avatar photo?

Shocking this has not been fixed, this like so much else should have been stress tested and any bugs removed.

Me3 is starting to look like a rush job.

It is absolutely outrageous that something like this, a mechanic that has been advertised since the beginning of the series, was left broken, and yet they shipped the game anyway.

I believe it was Shigeru Miyamoto who said "A delayed game is eventually good. A bad game is bad forever." Yes, we have patches and such now to fix those "bad" aspects, but for something this astronomical, the stain should stay on BioWare's name for quite a while. Wasting time and resources on their piece-of-**** multiplayer meant only to attract new players to the franchise, making tons of DLC meant to monetize and pull more money out of our pockets than the ludicrous amount they're already getting, and yet they cannot even get one of the central mechanics of the game that we were promised to work. That is ridiculous.

$60 is a lot of money, and a lot of customers feel they are entitled to quite a bit by dealing with that price tag. I am not a very demanding consumer (though many would paint me as such). There are many things which can make a game bad, but there are exactly 2 things gamers are ENTITLED to. Firstly, we are ENTITLED to a game that functions as advertised. Second, we are ENTITLED access in-game to all the content that was complete before the game went gold. BioWare has FAILED on both of these accounts. Also, on a smaller note, making the multiplayer essentially mandatory, forcing players to get intrusive Origin accounts and to play the ****ty online multiplayer (which I needed to BUY XBOX LIVE GOLD FOR, by the way), while not something we are entitled against, is UNETHICAL AS HELL.

Mass Effect 3 was a damn marketing campaign made to appeal to new players, because they knew that all the old loyal players would buy it on launch day. But apparently the message they wanted to send was "SCREW OUR LOYAL CUSTOMER-BASE!" Because who cares if we feel screwed and return it to Gamestop right? We still bought it, the sale was still made. We've still been cheated out of $60 or more. It is absolutely devastating to see a franchise I loved so much suddenly destroyed because EA wanted to make some extra short-term scratch.

OK so I'd previously said I think this kind of customer treatment is ugly -- triple that, but it's plain to see what's going on. The more time passes by, the more people play it, the end becomes known to most if not all your friends, videos on YouTube everywhere with spoilers in the titles, etc. etc. etc.

Honestly BioWare, I've been nothing if not courteous until now, but at this point, you can't really expect to do this and not suffer any sort of consequences. I'm not as radical as some of the other suggestions I've seen here, just moving on.

Yea, i don't know why I didn't see it mentioned on any of the big review sites like gamespot, and gamespot hates Bioware. Of course I usually skim reviews. On other sites like metacritic and amazon the negative response is overwhelming though.
