Yeah, I went from this in ME2 (which is my Canon Shep)

To this, the hair is different, eyebrows are way more thick, eyes are weird, everything is just different...

My recomendation is: don't buy the game. It is worthless right now, except for MP.

For us, the most loyal fans that pre-ordered, and are playing since ME1, lets pretend the game is not out yet, since it is not finished.

And to make it all the more ridiculous, they took a couple of extra months to  "make the game perfect". Epic fail. And to wait until launch to even acknowledge it is downright criminal. I hope they lose a lot of sales in the future over this.

My import didn't go as bad as some have...minus the hair, eyes, and eyebrows. The facial structure seemed fine to me and with a few tweaks to the problems I did have, I thought I'd be ok. A few hours in, and the brown/red hair I used to have on my FemShep is what I miss the most. The bright red hair I've got now just isn't...right. I'm thinking of importing again just to change the stupid hair color. Honestly, this is ridiculous.

Except, from what I'm reading, some of the colors/styles/options aren't even available during the creation menu. Is this even what they're working on (ie adding in more options) or just the bigger important issues? If we aren't going to even get more options, like the brown/red hair I loved my FemShep having, then there's no point in me waiting for a patch to import my character again.

Anyone have some thoughts?

Other than that, this is a big fail on a great game (so far). The Shepard you create is so pivotal to the experience that without having everything just so makes the previous two games seem worthless.

It's not worthless. With enough effort, I managed to do a re-creation of one of my paragon Sheps that doesn't look as mangled as I thought it'd be. The ME3 male faces have awful-looking shapes to them, but if you try hard enough, you might be able make them look almost halfway decent. I'm sure there'll be an official fix soon enough, but until then I suggest trying to create one of your easier faces from scratch. I must say...

Mass Effect 3 is an amazing game. There's a lot to do.

Lol BioWare. You must enjoy screwing us on all sides. Why wouldn't this be tested?

I really dont get how they released the game with a flaw as major as this, BUT Atleast we've got multiplayer yeeeeah :/

And Kinect! Don't forget Kinect!

Sure, our Shepards look like partially melted wax sculptures, but at least we get to buy a hundred dollar webcam and shout orders at it. We are soooo lucky, you guys!

Oh and don't forget DLC! So glad we get to pay 10 extra dollars on day one for DLC, while my Shepard looks nothing like the Shepard I've sunk hundreds of hours into for the past few games

Agreed! I can't believe that they put all that extra time into MP, and a release day DLC and yet, completely overlooked a mistake this glaring. Sure, I understand that the facial system has been upgraded, but you would think that they would have made the faces still transfer over just like they did in the 2nd title.... So much of the experience (for most of us) rides on this..

Maybe I’m foolish, but I think they’ll eventually come up with a fix. They’ve done it in the past. In the meantime, after hearing about this, I haven’t even try importing one of my custom Shepards. I’m doing my first play through with a default face Shep from ME2 which imported right. So far all the decisions I made in the past two games have had some impact in the game. …Hopefully, by the time I’m done with this first play through, BW has come up with a patch for this bug.

For some of us, the import function isn't working at all, for our faces.  Only our choices are imported.  Besides that, the hair colors are severely lacking in ME3.

I wonder how long it'll take to patch this? I know this has been said before, but I need to ask myself. Do you guys/ladies think that they'll just fix the import issue, and let us deal with the melted/semi-human looking Shepards. Or do you think they'll actually (based on past experience) update some of the features- hair and eye color, scars, etc?

My recreation went fine. Not an exact replica but its not that big a deal to me. Definitely close, and now that I'm playing and enjoying the game I don't even think about it. I hope BW gets this sorted out for you folks who are finding the game unplayable due to this oversight. Its another great BioWare ride so far!

The import error comes up for me, but the face looks likes it's supposed to.

My Shepards created in Mass Effect 1 could not import except for one. He was a male Shepard created in ME1, and for whatever reason, he imported into ME3 fine. I think he was the only ME1 Shepard I have that got a face code in ME2 when I imported him into the second game. The 2 other Shepards I tried were female and did not import anything. I have to completely recreate their faces.

so you got it working?  are you on 360 or PC?   did you tweak your shep in ME2, or leave him alone?

i remember my ME1 shep appearing slightly different in ME2, i put it down to the improved graphics.

please more info

I've given up trying to recreate the face, just don't have the eye for detail to even know where to start fiddling. (and the face-shadow in the CC screen doesn't help) Tried re-working the character in ME2, but the 12-minute cutscene makes "just fiddling" annoying, and the character keeps resetting the direction it's looking in, making it impossible to compare sideways view. (the CC is from the front, but most of the time your character is talking, the view is sideways)

I'm seriously angry about this. Especially since I had so much faith that this was going to be an amazing experience. I went to the midnight launch, MY FIRST MIDNIGHT LAUNCH because I was so excited to see the final conclusion of my Shepard's story. My Shepard that I first played ME1 with, she was the first one I created and the first Shepard I took into ME2. I've played through BOTH games twice with her so that I could capture footage the second time around and I'd planned to do the same with ME3.
I thought it was something I was doing wrong, that something was wrong on my end but NO. This is something Bioware allowed to happen? This is really upsetting, this is frustrating and a let down of maddening levels, do you know how attached I am to my shepard? How much her odd-deer-like-look grew on me over the coarse of ME1 until I wouldn't change her facial structure for the world?
I can't play without her.
This is unacceptable.
Please. For the love of your fans or at the very least your paying customers;
FIX THIS

Very true. I'm definitely happy that most of the features imported, and not just the choices I made, so I consider myself lucky on that front. It's slightly baffling that Bioware couldn't include previous choices for a character's face that were in the other games. Not everything needs to be brand new and different.

I'm still trying to find the face code.

Anyone got any ideas?

I need to solve this problem before I start playing, because I don't want to play Mass Effect without my Shepherd.

Failing that, is there an official ETA on a patch fix?

For those that just can't bring themselves to play because of this issue...its time to pull yourselves together and cowboy up! THE REAPERS ARE HERE!!! And your galaxy needs you! I'm sorry that your nose job didn't pan out and that you can't get your hair parted just right but you've got exactly 5 more minutes in the powder room before we have to do this thing without you! Put the vanity aside and hop on the hero train. Lets do this!

Yeah, the male faces seem to come out way better. Females look waxy and lifeless. Ironic, considering how much attention they paid to Femshep in the marketing this time.
