Issue importing faces into Mass Effect 3 Updated March 21

Posté 22 mars 2012 - 02:20
I inserted my copy of mass effect 2 and checked to see if the character code was there (you can see it when you go to the squad menu in game) It wasn't there for me when I checked.
So I did the next best thing I said start new game, and played until you recreate/import your Shepard. You can then import your Shapard from Mass Effect 1, and you can see if it gives you the code. It didn't for me so I recreated my Shepard with the create custom Shepard menu. You can do this in Mass Effect 3, but it helps to be able to look at your Shepard while you work on the new one. I Found it helpful to get close to the screen, and make sure that the details were close enough on some things like ear, neck, and mouth size. When your done recreating your Shepard in ME2 you can then copy the code in the editor (bottom of screen), and then insert the code into ME3.
When I did this I now have my personal Shepard back, and he looks just like he did in ME1+2 (considering the changes in how characters look in detail compared to the previous instalments).
Hope this helps for those of you who just cant wait

Good. Still this update comes too late for me, as I have rebuild my canon Shepard from scratch now, and I'm rather sure I won't play through the game a second time, unless some other things get fixed/changed. This issue alone and the way it was handled and communicated guarantees that I will not preorder a Bioware game again or buy it on or close to release.

So where is the PC patch then? There is no certification process for PC.
Would you or any other PC players be willing to test the patch as a beta patch? Cause most people probably wouldn't, though I see no harm in releasing one to have it tested faster. PC users tend to get the patches before console players. Either way, BioWare has to test it first.
whoa buddy! consoles first!

Okay. It sounds like if this patch fixes the face import problem, you will love Bioware again. Correct?

Yes. Until then I'm still leery and wary of BioWare. My standards are still high no doubt. If all this does is generate a face code like that "alternative" solution does....BioWare will have hell raised against them.
However, if it actually makes my femshep look like she did in the previous two games, well then BioWare may then face any angst I may have against them for this supposed ending.

I'm glad there is a fix coming. I'm not going to consider getting excited until I know how this fix works, though. Are they adding in the assets missing from the CC? Are they adding some way to just directly import the raw data? Or is it still going to be stuck looking at face codes?
EDIT: Of course, if nothing is done about the ending, I might not even care. I barely even have any interest in touching the multiplayer right now, let alone desire to replay the single player...

Alright, then I stand by what I wrote earlier. If we just forgive them and jump back on the bandwagon, they'll just continue to do what they've been doing. Putting out buggy games, cutting corners during development, and offering terrible customer service.
I am obviously off the bandwagon, the love bus, whatever you want to call it. They need to earn me back and its gonna take more than a patch that fixes what shouldn't need fixing. I need to know that this isn't going to happen again.

Ah now I understand.
My apologies for not being clear. I will love them only for this and this alone. Once I'm done with ME3 (and possibly any related DLC) there's no way in hell i'm purchasing another BioWare game unless some other game in the future returns back to the top quality they had in the past or they remove themselves from EA.
In other words, my love for them will extend only in so far that they will fix ME3. After that any allegiances are nil because my interest as of right now is and has only been on ME3 with regards to BioWare.
Their other franchises I don't give a rat's ass about.

Why? Consoles take longer. It's a much bigger hassle patching a console game. PC games usually get more patches, and more frequent paches because it's a lot easier. Also this is not meant to provoke a console/PC thing. Just saying.

Yes, as some of you already noted the wording used by Mr. Priestly is a bit too vague for comfort, and we should all temper our expectations accordingly.
I expect the next patch to at least address the ME1 related import error along with adding the missing hair styles. I would be surprised, however, if you could suddenly just paste that ME2 face code you've been hanging onto and have it finally show the face you so fondly remember instead of some weird lookalike.
But this is good news, and I'm happy about it. A step in the right direction, at the very least.

That's being a bit naive, no? Certification on consoles is mostly a formality, and a costly one for that matter. You can bet EA/Bioware will only send for certification code which has been thoroughly tested inhouse and deemed stable. And that means they could release it for PC before it hits the consoles. This should hardly be news to anybody, lots of developers release their patches for PC first. Some even start working on new patches from PC feedback before console certification is done with the old ones. It's more efficient. But you know that.
Frankly, the only reason I can think of for them not releasing for PC first is this (times a few million):

But mostly I feel the reason we have to wait a bit longer is because they want to include other stuff in this patch and don't yet know when it will actually be sent to certification.

Yeah, it's honestly a sad time for me. There was a time when, if I saw the BioWare name on something, I preordered it without question. (DA:O for instance - and what a great surprise when I started playing!) Now, I don't think I'll preorder a BioWare game again - probably not even a purchase within the first month of release. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Still slowly grinding through the game with a Shepard that looks like my Shepard's older sister.
Still can't believe you shipped the game without this fixed. :-(

Edit: Update March 21
Ok, I have what I hope is some good news.
We have fixed the issue of faces not correctly importing into Mass Effect 3. It will be included as part of the next Mass Effect 3 patch.
The not completely good news is that I do not yet have a confirmed date for when the patch will be available. A new patch gets heavily tested by BioWare, EA, Microsoft and Sony before it can be released to the public. We all want to be sure that it fixes the issues it is supposed to fix and doesn't start any new issues (this is called testing or certification testing ). If a patch fails during testing, it is sent back, fixed again and retested until it passes. Then it is released to gamers. Until we know that the patch has passed certification testing, I don't want to give even a rough idea of the date, to prevent disappointment should it need further testing.
So I'm sorry I don't have the full answer you all want and are waiting for yet. When I can give you the date when the patch will be available I will.
Thanks for the update sir! Very much appreciated!

Fixed
On a (more) serious note though, I'm probably about to finish the game with my "reimagined" Shep...I've grown to like him as well, but it has nevertheless been quite a bittersweet experience so far; constantly having it poking at you is hard.

Ha, turns out we are actually on the same page. Sorry about my earlier response, I didn't mean to lash out, okay I kinda did, I was upset. But I shouldn't have, so sorry. Its just all the ppl thanking Bioware for the tiny scraps off the table made me see a little red.

Any news on how this abuse of our good faith made it in in the first place? Apologies even? Sorry you don't have more info, but not sorry your company has wasted all of our time?
