Yeah, I am extremely close to the decision not to buy Bioware games anymore. The way they handled this is criminal.

And the depressing thing is that WE HAVE BEEN PLAYING SINCE ME1.
This is a blow to their longest standing fans.

I cant wait until monday I played through the second mission without my Shepherd and it just wasnt the same. Mondays the latest ill wait to start playing that should give them more than enough time to fix the problem.

I actually wonder how prevalent this decision is (also making this decision myself) -- to stall on playing the main storyline until the face issue is resolved....in particular I wonder if this is something that EA/Bioware is seeing in the online play data statistics that they receive...

You cant be serious......It's a minor flaw thats being worked on. Even saying that its criminal is ridiculous. What if your power went out due to unforseen reasons and you couldnt play. Would you consider that criminal?

Were probably a small % but I'm sure the data is there. I'm willing to bet we see a patch by the weekend  maybe Monday at the latest.  People shouldnt think they arent doing whatever has to be done to fix this issue.

Perhaps not criminal but inexcusabled...the carryover from game to game is one of the unique sales point of the series, to just release with "some shepards may not be imported, sorry." is kind of weak.  How abandonment of core series design principle == unforseen excusable power goes out I don't quite get.

I don't think this is a statistic they get, specifically - they'd only see who's playing the game in general. Or maybe they can deduce based on people being connected to multiplayer via Origin.

So let's give them some statistics.

ANYONE WHO IS STALLING PLAYING THE MAIN STORYLINE WHILE WAITING FOR YOUR SHEPARD'S FACE TO BE FIXED, PLEASE POST A COMMENT STATING

I AM NOT PLAYING UNTIL I HAVE MY SHEPARD BACK

Even saying that its criminal is ridiculous.

Most of us, who played ME1 and ME2 waited for ME3 mostly because we could continue our character's story. With same familiar face. I (and, I am sure, lots of other people) don't want to even start a new game with incorrect face. This is wrong. This is simply unbelievable.

So anyone on X360 who is desperate should atleast try this methode, you have nothing to lose.

Given Microsoft's ban happy nature for anything that involves tampering with 360 data on the PC I'd say that 360 owners would have to be deperate indeed to risk it.

You're not tampering with anything.  You're only copying a save to generate a code so you can plug in the numbers into the CC.

I agree with you but I doubt Microsoft would see it that way.

Reposting this from the original thread for the benefit of all the people saying the assets don't exist:

Does anyone else have anything to contribute about the [minor spoiler!] Shepard VI, that shows up somewhere on the Citadel? I've heard that supposedly it gets your old face without any problems - a few people have commented on this, but I would love if anyone else willing to play up to that point could relate their experiences. Because if that is indeed true, that's HUGE, as it means the faces -can- work in the game, and that the problem is just with the import and character creation processes (see my post on page three of this thread). That would help provide us, the fans, with proof that it's possible, and it would help the programmers narrow down where they need to look to resolve this.

I've got to that part and it looks nothing like my old shepard.  He even looks like he has a beard and my shepard only has a goatee.

It does? Well... that's... depressing. I was really hoping I was right, because that would mean a relatively simple fix; something even I could have done, with my limited programming experience, in an afternoon. It'd be a simple fix, that just -somehow- completely got overlooked, and no one thought to implement it. If the Shepard VI is different, though, there goes my proof that the face can be imported, and with it, my confidence that it's even possible at all. They claim they're working on it, so I'm still going to hold out hope that they come up with a satisfactory solution... but even if they can, it's probably going to take a good bit longer than I originally thought.

This is a joke. The more and more I think about this, Bioware completely knew about the problem and just didn't care. Why else would there already be a message (the "Mass Effect 3 cannot successfully determine the custom face code....") built into the game on release day? The game can't make that message up on its own. The developers had to put it in there. So they've known for a while faces from the first game will not transfer over and just chose not to fix it. I thought all of the "talk" about them not caring about their longtime fans was just internet babbling, but apparently that was spot-on.

This point was brought up in the original thread yesterday and some guy who is a programmer responed saying that they create error codes for everyconceivable thing that could go wrong in the game as a precaution.  Which, honestly, makes a lot of sense.

This is still a major screw up by Bioware, but I don't think it was as malicious as you make it out to be.

Sorry, but I don't buy that at all. There are apparently tons of people having this issue with the game, and we're supposed to believe it didn't come up once at Bioware? When part of the major selling points of their game is carrying a character from the first game over? So they managed to get the rest of the character transfer process right, but somehow they ALL missed the fact that the face wasn't transferring properly? Sorry, they had to know and just didn't fix it.

I also wait until the patch arrive. It would be nice to get a rough estimation (days, weeks, months...).

So if you can get your shepard to look close to how it looked in ME2, that might just be how close it can actually make your character look. Basically, don't give up trying to fix the problem, but don't think that close enough isn't good enough, because I could import my shepard and he didn't look all that similar to my ME2 character, espically the eyes, those tend to get a little wonky.

I know *sigh*
I can understand people saying they will wait for a fix but the main problem isn't the import bug but the new graphics! As you say, even if they manage to make ME1 characters import properly, they will continue to look off.
They'd have to change the entire game to keep the old look!
Maybe, maybe if they fix the import, you can have your Shep with purple eyes again after all (like mine who has blue eyes now).
But please, people, don't torture yourself waiting for god knows how long for a fix that won't change the transformation into a different face.
The work around is as good as it gets, I bet.

I'm sure they were aware of the issue, I don't see how they couldn't be - I was merely referring to the error code itself.

Then I will be expecting my money back. This is not the game I was told I would be purchasing.

I had a tough time telling from the youtube vid posted in the other thread...but can anyone confirm that VI old face true face Shepards lips actually MOVE when you talk to it?  Because that's the fundamental question can the old model be linked up to the new "more expressive" face rig, that was implemented for Me3.

I am unable to import my renegade custom face code while for my paragon I am able to.  However, the character comes out looking abosolutely nothing like the one I played through the first two games.

I will not be playing Mass Effect 3 until this problem is resolved.

I don't mind that my FemShep doesn't look EXACTLY the same as she did in ME1 -- although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't annoyed that the hairstyle she's had for 2 games is now inexplicably GONE -- because she didn't look EXACTLY the same in ME2.  Minor changes for the updated engine I can deal with.

What I can't -- or to be more specific -- shouldn't have to put up with is an arbitrary overhaul of the CC that screws up the values to the point that I can't even come close to my original.  And that's with footage(DVR) of ME1 & 2 Sheps being played and stopped as I go through the process.

Also, I'm one of the ones being affected by the choices not importing correctly.  I wooed Liara, killed Kaidan, and stayed with Liara, ME3 thinks I boffed Kaidan, killed Ash and stayed with Kaidan.  That is wrong, and they need to fix it.

Ehh I recreated my Shepard's face. Its not exactly perfect or the same, but its close enough that its not immersion-breaking as I play the game. And the game is absolutely brilliant. Don't do yourself a disservice and not play- just recreate as much as you can and head into the game. Its fantastic.

While I get what you're saying, Kappa, they -claim- they are working on it - I'm going to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt here; they screwed up royally, yes, but they say they're trying to fix it - I'm willing to wait a bit to see if they do. If it ultimately comes down to "Play with a different face, or don't play at all" I MIGHT suck it up and deal with it, but until I know there is NO other solution, I'm going to keep waiting.

Yeah, I am extremely close to the decision not to buy Bioware games anymore. The way they handled this is criminal.

A minor flaw? Maybe for you, but not for me, the game as it is now is unplayable for me. Knowing something is wrong for a very long time (which Bioware did know, they couldn't have missed this), and not informing the fan base about it is criminal as far as I am concerned. If I had known this, I wouldn't have bought the game (at least not until the issue was fixed).

It might be (depending on the reason for the black-out), but it is irrelevent, since that wouldn't be Bioware's or EA's fault.
