Issue importing faces into Mass Effect 3 Updated March 21
#6476
Posté 30 mars 2012 - 02:08
For those of you that import your shepard and the face simply doesn't look right, a patch or fix will almost certainly do nothing to change this.
The issue in question is that faces imported from ME1 to ME2 to ME3 have no associated face code. Importing from ME1 to ME2 used the actual 3D model of the head to import the face. In ME3, all the faces are rendered differently, so it needs that face code. A patch would hopefully fix this.
It is truly shocking that this was ever a post-release issue, didn't any of the testers try to import an ME1 face?? If not, it's evidence that the game was rushed to release. In March. Which makes no sense whatsoever.
In any case, you should redo your face in ME3 anyway. Chances are it will not look like ME2 even if the face import works. They've changed hairstyles, eye shapes, eye height, and lip shape in ways that make faces look different (and usually worse, faces looked much better in ME2, but didn't animate as well).

But I digress, I would love Bioware to tell me why & how this happened:
One of my Shepard's from ME2:
Pretty standard stuff.
Now look at how he imports when I use a save game file saved AFTER the
suicide mission. Typing the code from ME2 to ME3 also nets the same
result::
Not close at all but could be worse.
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is where it gets F**ked up!! Look at my import in ME3 if I chose an earlier save file from the same Shepard in ME2 BEFORE the suicide mission:
That right there is a FEMALE face!! For some ungodly reason, this bugged
game thinks my Male Shepard should have a female face. I have no idea
why it's doing this but honestly what a joke!! Will the patch address this??
And check this humdinger. One of my other ME1 & 2 imports where I was lazy and used
the stock standard Male Shepard, well importing his file into ME3, you
expect no probs right? No face modification, just the Male Shepard we
all know and love.
Bioware is BioFAIL!!!!!!!!!!!
Somehow
ME3 can't even recognise Stock standard Shepard's face when using an import.
How and why did Bioware/EA let this clear f**k up through is beyond me!!
Hey Cat, since you can't tell us anything new about the patch and all that, how about telling us how an apology from Bioware is going? Or is that located on the corners "Not a chance boulevard" and "We have your money, Now STFU Drive"??

There was hair styles in ME1 that were not in ME2 but importing imported the exact look without problems
We will just have to wait and see how it goes

The weapons have always been holstered in conversations since the first ME, unless you actually made a choice to draw the weapon in the cut scene, what are you talking about mlouden03? Have you played ME before?
I have heard that ME 3 weapons don't holster at all, and was unsure what the extent was in cutscenes etc.

Good morning all,
I'm very sorry that this is dragging on and that we don't have any new information for you at this point. I wish we did. As mentioned I don't expect your frustration to simply go away because I post this and you are still entitled to voice your opinion until we can provide a solution.
When we DO have more information, we will make sure to deliver it.
SO BIOWARE DON'T HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW THEIR FIX WORKS??

I definitely won't buy anything else from them. Why should I?
Look at CDProjekt RED and their "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings", yeah... there were few problems with game's launch (bugs etc.) but they makes fast patches, give free DLCs (Enhanced edition stuff will be free for PC version), communicate with fans and ofc. their games are amazing (for me Witcher 2 is the best game of 2011). They are opposite of BioWare...
Ps. Sorry for my english....
The Witcher 2 is a POS game, "a few problems" is putting it mildly, I am surpriced that given the consolization it took (being anounced for xbox a couple of months later was no surprice) and the way none of the important decisions you made in The Witcher mattered (oh, did you chosse Shani in the first?, well too bad!) hard core RPG gamers got swayed by the beautiful graphics and still think it is a good game.
I could rant all day about The Witcher 2, which was the second to last game I preordered.
It was nice for it to be on GoG DRM free and all that, but the game itself was no good, and was full of bugs.

What do you mean *those*? See, call me naive or ignorant, but if i've played a game called Dragon Age: Origins, and the same company brings out a game called Dragon Age 2, I will naturally assume it's either a sequel or a continuation of the storyline... hence "Dragon Age 2", and not "Dragon Age: Hawke Rising" or "Dragon Age: What's It All Aboot?".
Mass Effect 1 reuses areas in a sensible, tasteful way that doesn't feel lazy - DA2 is literally the exact same area, same map, just set during the day or at night with a handful of different enemies - ME1 will reuse something like a spaceport, a facility layout, a settlement... because we assume that whoever designed these things in the first place planned to have more than one in the known galaxy and it's probably easier to mass produce from the same blueprint than hire some rennaisance architects to create thousands of random structures. ME2 was an alright sequel, but certainly downgraded a lot of things I felt made ME1 as engaging as it is.
I'll admit it, I was expecting a game something like DA:O2. Because of that, I was disappointed. The only thing I liked about DA2 was the combat, the rest was pretty much baleful retcons, an over-simplified 13 year old-friendly interface and the sort of storyline that you'd read in a children's book. Ah... you're one of *those*.
I don't mind a muted protagonist - it lets you roleplay as them more easily (see "role-playing games"). The combat wasn't slow, it looked fairly realistic as far as the melee combat goes. I don't need to be a super Samurai warrior doing absurd flips and fancy spins, that's just for the cool kids who try to breakdance. And what's wrong with hunchbacked walks? Most people I know don't walk like Brazilian supermodels or Hollywood actors, I wouldn't expect any of that from a battle veteran who's been infused with demonic blood, just like i'm not one of those cretins that plays a game like Skyrim as a nude Elf with a single leather belt covering up their modesty.
You remind me why I don't bother posting on here!
So do you assume all the Final Fantasy games are directly related to each other? They're all numbered, from the same company, and have the same title, yet... none of them have anything to do with each other (except the two direct sequel titles which were numbered differently.) Ergo, it's not unreasonable to assume that a game that is NOT called "DA:O 2", is NOT DA:O 2.
No, ME1 reuses areas far, far too much, and much worse than DA2. You're letting nostalgia cloud your vision. Go reply ME1, right now. I am about to finish another replay of it, and I can tell you, it's getting really annoying to see the same buildings, mineshafts, and underground facilities, over and over. Literally in the course of some missions, you will visit the same underground building design 3 times or more! Some of the UCN Cerberus missions have you going into that same building 3 times, the mission on Luna has the same thing, so on and so forth.
If DA2 changed the time of day, at least that's different. The ME1 buildings are literally fully identical.
I'm sorry, but mute protagonist is a tired cliche, and considered a serious misstep in a modern game. The walking animations were terrible. I'm not a supermodel, but when I walk around, I don't lean forward and scuttle about like a crustacean.
You're a little hard to take seriously, given the absurd name.

He actually did that?! I'm so surprised. (Yeah right!)
I was hoping he would give some sort of weekly update on the progress of the fix, but unlike you he proved me wrong.
It's coming up on a month after release and still no fix. Bioware/EA should be force to release the fix by itself and eat the cost of mutiple patches. We already ate the cost of paying for a broken and buggy product (I actually want to say something else but won't) and we get a run around in return, while they keep our money.
The longer this takes the less I'm going to care once it is fixed and the less I'm going to care about anything from Bioware in the future, and as of 3 weeks ago EA for that matter.

Then you are less than crap. Until they want to sell DLC. Then they'll kiss your butt again, hoping to get a few more dollars from you.
A company that was worth a damn would have had this fixed with a day 1 patch. Here we are a month later, and all we've gotten is a bunch of static and noise, and no real answers.
Like I've said before, they'll hold this patch back until after PAX. Most likely because PAX will be polarizing, and they'll want to placate people and try to distance themselves from (yet more) ill will and controversy, so they'll drop the patch probably in mid to late April.
Of course, the suits and EA and their pets at Bioware apparently don't realize that by releasing it that late, nobody will be placated. They'll be even angrier at having been tricked into buying what they thought was a working game, nearly 2 months before it actually worked.

They aren't allowed to. Part of their sell out to EA was an agreement to give up on customer service.

While I agree that Bioware was just as guilty of reusing assests on the generic filler missions in ME 1, I was actually able to overlook it more often than I was in DA 2. I just roleplayed it as all these groups just happened to have contracted with the same prefab suppliers.
Some of the structures were far too empty for their purpose in ME 1 in my opinion, but I was less annoyed than I was in DA 2 where Bioware didn't even bother to hide the portions of the map that weren't in use and did a horrible job of blocking off the unused sections. of the mines. Piling rubble up in the doorways would have been preferable to the doorjambs with a smooth wall blocking the way.
Edit: And don't even get me started on the issue of mobs falling out of the sky... <_<

It's nice to see that i'm not the only one who is upset about this. I just want to say to bioware that i was looking forward to this game for a long time and even more when the day came to pre-order the N7 Edition. I get home and i import my character only to see that it is some weird looking guy that doesn't look remotely close to what i had in part 1 & 2. so for weeks now i've been forced to stay away from forums, friends who play this game and anything that is ME3 related so that the story doesn't get ruined and it is quite hard to do seeing as parts of the story are starting to reach me some how some way and its being ruined. i find it very unfair that majority of the mass effect community was able to enjoy the game in its entirety while i'm still waiting on that amazing gaming experience that was told we would be able to engage on when the game released. i know you guys are working on the solution and a lot of companies would take their sweet time or none at all to do anything about it so with that i say thank you BUT having to have waited this long to play the campaign is starting to get ruined for me. i know it was my choice to wait it out but at the same time it shouldn't have been a choice for anyone to make. every person who owns this game should have been able right then and there. i want to know is all your doing for those that had to go through this is just make the patch and call it a day or are we going to see something good come our way for the major inconvenience. now im not looking for a big DLC content or anything like that to come our way but maybe like an "apology coupon" sorta speak. like a really really good weapon pack/armor or something to show that, hey this was our bad and that you can be like hope this makes it up and helps make your long awaited game experience in the campaign worth while. I hope someone takes the time out to read this and consider what was said here. I love the ME franchise and hope i can continue to support it but don't make us afraid to give you our money so that you guys can continue your amazing work. I thank you for your time Bioware.
It's people like this Bioware should be listening to. The mainstream media may be running with the furure surrounding the ending and the impatient gamers that rushed through to it fast enough to generate the headlines but its genuine, honest gamers like this (and I'd like to think myself) who love the ME games so much that they are prepared to forego the game they waited so patiently for, pre-ordered, etc etc just because nobody thought people who bought Mass Effect 1 in 2005 might have dreamed of utilising the character creation tools. I have nearly recreated *my* Shepard. It's not quite right, but if I could import the face I have used for six years instead, I'd have a whole lot more respect for Mass Effect and for Bioware.
