So after an absence of 112 pages, I return, to find that finally there's information about the upcoming patch to fix the face import glitch. This, of course, coming in the wake of the "expanded ending" announcement.
I hope the fix for the face import works, as while I've gotten used to my "six months in the slammer" FemShep, I would like to see what my original looks like.
As to the ending, since I haven't beaten the game yet I'll reserve judgement -- in any case, there's a bit more of a wait on that one.
But I still hold the position from my last post. This is too little, too late. EA has driven away a loyal BioWare customer of some 9 years, someone who will never pre-order another BW game, someone who will most likely not even buy another BW game until all its release issues are fixed/a used copy.
It's a shame, because I've been a fan of the company's style since KOTOR. As I said previously, Jade Empire came out on a Tuesday. I didn't get paid till Thursday, and only had about $20 in the bank. But I bought it anyway, so that instead of $60, with the overdraft fee it ended up costing me $95. And it was worth it. Bought ME1, ME2, DA: O, DA2, and now ME3, and experienced everything from mild annoyance to frustration to, currently, disbelieving anger from glitches, bugs, arbitrary design changes. That's it. I'm just done with them. A feature that was a cornerstone of the franchise was broken, they knew it, but did nothing. And continued to do nothing until people were heading up to Canada with pitchforks and torches. I'm still convinced that if they could have gotten away with charging for the fix, they'd do it in a heartbeat.
I've been playing since I last posted(March 17th), and I have to say the story has blown me away so far. There are so many ups and downs that I feel amazed such a game could even exist, and I haven't felt that way since ME1. If the ending is as threadbare as I've heard (I've also heard it's very much a love it/hate it ending), perhaps they wrote it that way because they used up all the ideas they had in the game. Despite the new mechanics and greater emphasis on shooter combat, the core story is still the essence of a WRPG. There's a huge battle to be fought. People from your past are showing up. People -- even just throwaway characters -- are dying. Alliances are being made and broken, questionable decisions are being made, and the whole grand scheme to win seems like it has an equal chance of suceeding or flying apart at a moment's notice. That's the BioWare storytelling I always expected when I popped in a new game, and I have to admit they've done themselves proud.
Which makes the way they handled this fiasco all the more appalling. All it would have taken was a prompt reply without the person making the reply being a *REDACTED*. Then a brief update every few days, instead of weeks apart from some guy who wasn't even in Canada. The missteps were a lot a bad PR that they didn't need, and it's probably cost them at the very least a lot of future pre-orders. I mean, who would buy a new car if the body panels would only be delivered a month later?
If one good thing came from this, it was that famous geeks recognized and publicized the issue. Rob Bricken of ToplessRobot.com snuck a snark into a post about the upcoming ME anime. He posted a clip that was basically just a bit of footage showing different character and art designs, then observed that "I'd say it must be irritating to get such a lackluster preview of the anime movie, but I imagine most
Mass Effect fans are pretty used to disappointment by now."
And our Queen, Felicia, also found it odd.

http://social.biowar.../1325286/195331A fitting view of interacting with EA. And a fitting note to end this post on.
p.s Things this message board needs: 1 - Preview function. 2 - Actually, just recode the whole damn thing. This interface is sloppier than an EZboard.
