Just received confirmation via Twitter; sadly the incoming fix probably won't add back the removed hairstyles/colours.
I guess it's only for cases where people were receiving an actual error message.
Well will those people have their old sheps? or what?
I guess if your old Shep has been rocking a customisation option that Bioware (for reasons that shall remain known to them and them alone) decided to remove for the final game of the trilogy, you're bang out of luck and will never be able to create them properly in Mass Effect 3.
I was planning on researching and creating a small mod to allow players like myself to import over the old hairstyles that have been removed (original default Femshep), with an updated mesh and texture, but a friend has just informed me that doing so could lead to my Origin account being banned.
Come back, Jane! I really miss you.

I guess custom meshes could mess with collision detection so disallowing that in multiplayer might make sense.
But even so, you could just keep the old meshes and textures around and swap them back whenever you want to play multiplayer. That's definitely declared to be OK. (I can dig up the thread where this was confirmed if needed.)

As far as the problem with facial animations, I'm not sure why it would be a problem. Or, of course, it would need to be added/retrofitted/remodeled and that requires resources – but I don't think there's a technological reason why it couldn't be done. Hell, I'd be happy with no animations…
I'd be happy with the meshes, shapes, features and animation of both body and face that we had in ME2. I didn't have a problem with that. I don't see why they had to change it, and change it for the worse. Even if the changes to the looks were supposed to make FemShep more feminine, anything to that effect is ruined by the o-legged stomping and the constant scowl.
Maybe they built it around their new default Femshep, to make her look good? Which would be just another fail, because that would be marketing and PR at all costs, especially at the expense of loyal fans'/players' experience.

Thanks for the link to the face mesh discussion thread.
Found a post there that explains why what we want most likely won't be:
http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/355/index/11073023/6#11137345
It's also this that actually makes 'recreating' our Shepards impossible. So will those who claim it is possible please shut up.
Except, as I understand it, if ME3 takes the raw data from the ME2 face, it would theoretically be possible for Bioware to insert code that remaps the face so it looks the same (see the post by woodbyte on page 295, linked to at the top of this page). This means the biggest issue is whether Bioware actually bothered themselves to do this or not. Considering that people have asked the question as to whether this fix sorts this problem quite a considerable number of times, and we have utterly failed to get any definite answer from Bioware at all, and no answer whatsoever in this thread, I am not at all hopeful that they did. But I guess we'll see for sure tomorrow or the day after.

I'm sharing everybodies pessimism that the patch won't fix everything. I want Jane back the way she was. Exactly the way she was. Hair included, I don't care about any hairdressers appointment.
If I do not see her with the same face, hair or eyes I am not going to play this game as I would not be able to bear it. I'm not trying to be melodramatic here.
EDIT: On second thought, why would changing anything in the game lead to being banned from MP? Have developers gone so far that we are not allowed to mod games?

There was a thread about modding single player where someone from Bioware said single player was allowed but not multiplayer, but then someone else came in and said that ANY modification would result in a ban then locked the thread.

I think that was contradicted by Patrick (?) later, will have to dig up threads. Wish we didn't have to deal with this nonsense, though…MP is a plague.
(Although I must note that in EU they basically aren't allowed to tell you you can't modify it for single player.)

This is getting worse, not better.
Expect Priestly to shut down the thread soon because it 'isn't needed'
Possibly BEFORE the patch drops if he's in a particularly evil mood.
Still no info on what is actually fixed, DESPITE patch notes.

It is pretty tough. I haven't been able to really get into the game, as my character seems more like a 'lookalike' than the same one I have played as many times before. I guess it effects some people more than others, but I'm one of those it's had a huge impact on.

I have posted this before but have no time to go back 300 pages
This is my Me1 Shepard and Me 2 . I recreated her again in ME 2 and almost exactly had the same face with a face code.. But when i import her to ME3 with exactly the same facecode i see a complete stranger. So i think both issues ( cannot import face) and Shepard in me3 looks different is all the same issue. If the patch is made this way that the missing assets are back in Me3 then all problems are solved (I Hope so)
Me1

Me2

Import window ME2

Me 3 trying to import from the above gives->

After creating a code ( lost the screenshot) this iss what ME3 makes of it.

well tomorrow i will see what happens... I sincerly hope that all is fixed!
Take Care
Signing of to have sleep ( alarm goes in 7 hours) working day

As far as i understood Origin is scanning on a modified coalbin file and if it is detected there will be problems ( in MP) if you mod at MP you have to put the unmodded original files bach. ( i dont exactly know the hows and why's but they are explained in the topics i gave u. As far as i understood a Modded file in SP can be done as long as you play the game in OFF line Origin modus.
both SP and MP use the same game files.
Take Care i really have to go and sleep now.

Dude, it's massively off topic. And you posted something akin to spoilers on a non-spoiler message board. Please just leave if you can't contribute.

Sorry I took long to dig this up, it's in fact in that very thread. Here's the ‘final word’ on modding
Thomas Abram (staff) said:
As mentioned by Scylla, you will not be banned for modifying your files
*unless (and this is where my intention was) they give you an unfair
advantage in any multiplayer aspect of the game.
Of course, that still leaves it open as to whether some automated scan might lock you if it detects mesh modification even if you don't use it in MP (unlikely), but you can request an unlock if that does happen.
…
Touching upon that off-topic, I was a little amused that a good half of the topics themselves on the General board had some kind of a spoiler in them, let alone their contents…
