Not even a little close, different hair, different hair colour, different eyebrow/colour, lips/colour, eyes/colour, makeup, nose shape and complexion
But apparently 'close enough' :/ Woo...
I've been PAINFULLY holding off playing this game since release to play this game with the face fixed and now I get this....

Well, EA, you allow such a fundamental bug for loyal fans of Mass Effect to make it into the finished game, then take a FULL MONTH to release a patch which utterly IGNORES half of the problem, all the while utterly ignoring any and all requests about information in the very thread YOU set up about this issue, including when it was specifically asked if it was only half the problem that is fixed, which, as we now know, is, in fact, the case.
I have NEVER seen a company that treats loyal customers and fans with as much sheer, unmitigated contempt as this.

Does it fix anything? Good question. A lot of people are saying it produces results the same as the YAML method while others say they're getting different results.
From what I can tell, the method of tackling the problem is the same as YAML; the colour of your eyes for example, is given the closest approximation as it exists in ME3. That's what the YAML method did as well, but the new patch does it with supposedly greater accuracy.
Except colours import fine if you do it yourself with Gibbed's save editors. So do bone positions. In fact, based on the data woodbyte pulled up, the entire facial structure is importable, so why wasn't it done?

BroShep one looks the same in ME1, ME2 and ME3, except that YAML dropped the hairstyle. Bolo Yeung lookalike test pased!
FemShep looks... like she got beat up with the ugly stick and bleached into a blonde (WHY?!). YAML frelled her face in the exact same way, though, so I guess it's because the elements were missing. Goodbye, Olivia Wilde lookalike, I hope I can rebuild you later on in some other way. (the YAML-imported one ended up looking like Kyra from Chronicles of Riddick, so I guess it's not a total loss).
BroShep two... Funny thing. Direct import distorts the face somewhat and ditches the hair colour. Facecode (ME2 character, remember?) cut-and-paste makes it look almost 1:1 to ME2. I am at a loss here. HOW DOES THE IMPORTER WORK?! Via RNG? Doom Guy test failed?
Did a quick import of my remaining FemShep and BroShep -- both got screwed over as well, FemShep looks like an extra out of Mad Max now, and the Adrien Brody lookalike is just... I dunno, I can't compare the face to anyone =)
This is most depressing.

So, basically, EA (I'm not calling them Bioware any more, because it now seems completely clear that Bioware is now nothing more than a name that belongs to EA) took a full month to take the YAML workaround posted in post 1 of this thread and automate it.

Just be careful, there's a friendly reminder right next to your account picture to remind you what happens if you disagree with EA.

Yeah I know. I'm sure my fears will be confirmed tomorrow, barring a miracle. I had a Jeremy Lin-esque Shepard that I used in ME1 and ME2. Despite all my best efforts, when I tried to manually rebuild my new Shepard in ME3 he ended up looking like Genghis Khan or something. Sigh.
I hope tomorrow will be a good day lol ...

So no console patch yet.
They said the consoles get the patch tomorrow. Not that it matters, apparently. I had figured that they'd make us wait 5 weeks only for it to not actually fix the problem.

I think that second face must be the generic failed FemShep face. My shep has black hair and various other differences to that face, but that's pretty much exactly what I got when I imported. An error message and that face.
So perhaps the error message is gone, but failed faces still get the generic character.

That's like someone saying they have a problem with their vision so you "fix" the issue by removing their eyes xD

The other is close enough but not perfect, and her old eye colour is gone from the CC.

For those that claim it works, did you have scar removal surgery in me2 or not?
Yes, I only had time to test my ren. femshep.

How do you take screenshots from ME2 on PC "without" fraps.
I use ATI Tray Tools.

...my femSheps... both of'em... I mean... seriously?!?
1.My white red head is now a black brunette?
2.My real black brunette is black, ok... that you did get right... but... it kinda ain't her...
So maybe you would like to see the effect of both my import files?Because... you know... you claim to listen to what anyone outside of EA has to say...
I think this joke of a patch dissmissed THAT claim...
(as if the pathetic ending(s) weren't enough...)
It is official (for me at least)... playing/buying BW/EA games is a waste of time AND money...
It's like you really are trying to dissapoint everyone...
Because it is the only thing you guys succeed at lately...

Because, my femShep had the scar removal surgery, and she still doesn't import properly. Same issue as before the patch.

What I don't understand is why they don't just copy whatever process they used so that ME1 faces imported perfectly (or nearly perfectly) into ME2 and use that baseline for ME2-->ME3. If certain features such as particular hairstyles were left out in ME3, add them back in. It's just mind boggling that the earlier games were more precise than their last iteration with regard to face importing.
It seems they're using a different face tech for this game. From what I can gather, anyway.
Like an attempt to make faces look more real. It does that job well, but the problem comes from importing. It relies heavily on face code data from ME2, and if you dont have it you're stuck.
I don't think it's simply a matter of copy pasting the features in, they'd probably have to go back and change the method of face recognition from the ground up...or simply import in the old face engine in which case the new engine was a complete waste of time and would cause conflicts in-game.
In general if you think an answer is simple, it's usually been thought of by the people trying to fix it. I reckon this is as good as we'll ever get. It's like emulation software, you can try to force something to behave like something else, but you'll only manage to go so far before the cracks start to appear.
