Excellent Apple_NdiB , this is exactly what I wanted to know.  So the confirmation is that it doesn't work, only removes the error message and anyone saying it does merely tweaked things by glance/memory.  You did exactly what I did to fill in the gaps the YAML method didn't generate by going into ME2.   So I can expect the same.

Yeah this is important to stress. The YAML method alone will only get you so far, you still need to boot up ME2 with a ME import, play through the prologue and get to the CC before entering the code generated by YAML and then tweaking it to match the import until they're identical. Usually this means changing the nose/hairstyle and other easily fixable features but I also had to adjust the cheekbones and face size slightly.

I suppose this is water under the bridge now but this method is certainly no better than YAML.

From what I gathered since I was the first to notice the patch fail, is that if the player made fixes didn't work for you, this won't either. It seems Bioware just tried to do what others first did, just make it official.

Ahhhhh, can't wait till that Capac guy sees this. He's going to let it rip.... lol

Yep, my apprehensions were correct, sadly.  My femshep doesn't look like the ME original at all.
Total waste of time for me - waiting one month for this useless patch. Looks like it I'll have to mod this with the help of 3rd party tools. Great job as always Bioware programmers ....

 Ok so, i had follow the steps to take the ME1 to ME2 char code, upload the save file, download the yaml file, upload in the other web, put any name, recover the name and finally get the code, after that i put it on ME3, and i've had to change a few parameters, hair, face paint, and eyes color.

This is my FemShep

One Month Later, Patch applied, and this is what i got...

This is ridiculous. I'm waiting on the console patch so I won't know until tomorrow if it helped me or not. But judging from everyone's recent posts I know not to get my hopes up.

I'm not surprised though. It's obvious they didn't care about the import face bug so why would they bother fixing it. The game is out, the Mass Effect series is over and they have our money already so why the hell should they care. The lack of communication proves they knew the patch wouldn't fix a thing so they just sat there with a their tail between their legs.

Great job BiowEAr. How does it feel to go from first to last. Oh wait I forgot you would have to have a heart in order to feel.

I hear you, I want to say way worse things, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow for the console patch.  The main thing is that BiowareEA can no longer be considered professionals.  Terrible job selling us a product  that doens' t have its listed features in tact (not just face import, lots of MP sessions reveal many bugs or features that don't work right - for the action in general in both SP and MP.  The only bugs specific to MP appear to be the horrible connectivity and match making issues).  Downright irresponsible of them to release it when the did, along with their almost completely absent communication with us.  This affects so many people, yet their public statements suggest they are more concerned about public outcry over the endings (on which I can't coment...).  I only saw one article on the face import bug, only one.  This issue is not getting enough visibility.

They sold me a car with an advertised, one touch button auto parallel parking feature.  When I push the button, at least one of my tires winds up on the curb.  Some might say it kinda works, I say it kinda doesn't, but it's downright unacceptable.

The patch did NOT fix the face import bug for me. I STILL get the same wrong face I used to get before the patch.

ME2:

ME3:

List of things totally wrong:

1. EYESHAPE - UNFIXABLE (No such eyeshape in ME3);

2. HAIR - UNFIXABLE (No such hair in ME3);

3. EYELID/EYELASH CLIPPING - fugly and UNFIXABLE (due to difference in eye positioning in ME3);

4. SCAR - UNFIXABLE (not the Renegade scars, but the trademark Shepard scar; absent in ME3);

5. Eye color - fixable via Gibbed;

6. Makeup - theoretically fixable via Gibbed or Texmod, but I didn't manage to.

For me, the patch was exactly ZERO USE. I got better results with YAML + Gibbed.

Way to go, Bioware *clap clap*.

 My ME2/ME3 and workaournd/patch comparison

I used an ME1 Shepard in ME2. Imported that ME2 face into ME3.

Code comparison:

ME3 code generated with workaround and 15 hours tweaking:

Code ME3 shows for the imported face after patch:

*This* is why I'm saying the patch may favor ME1 Shepards. It's not trying to generate an ME2/ME3 compatible code. (I'll test if adding the periods actually makes for a valid code that produces the same face. I'd be surprised if it did, since the nose shape is the most obvious thing that's missing.) <= tested: The code actually works when adding the periods.

So, from what it sounds like, their idea of "Patching the face import issue" is to have it No longer display an error. That's no fix.

Malcroix, their idea of a "patch" was to remove the error that people got. That's it. They didn't really fix anything.

As I suspected; the import feature is first importing any extant Mass Effect 2 face code and, if one is not found, falling back to the approximation method.

I am now curious as to how a Mass Effect 2 created face would be imported if the face code is erased from the save file.

 I'm definitely disappointed. I loved all the Mass Effect games. Had the first playthrough with default male shepard.

Then I decided to play as a renegade FemShep, everything was great in ME1 and 2, but now my FemShep looks different. This patch only does the same thing as the fan tool: doesn't get a decent result. What I get is something that looks like my Shepard's sister. But not her.

This is a comparison between the import from this new patch and my Shepard on ME2 :

This is a comparison between the new ME3 import after I customized it a bit to try to make it look more similar and
my Shepard on ME2 :

As you can see, difference is pretty big specially when she turns her head.

It isn't the same person. :( Bioware just got lazy. This is disrespectful.

Yep, my femshep has a similar face - and as i already said, in ME3 it looks totally different.

Doesn't work for me either. I'm still getting the same face I got offered before the patch. The face structure seems close enough, but the eye and hair colour are off, I now have a beard which I never had before, and the hairstyle is close but not the same.

If I want to play around with the Gibbed save editor, where do I start?

I just wonder when Mr Priestly or one of his "underlings" will arrive to tell us "there's nothing to see here, move along, issue is fixed" etc.

Or, will they simply keep ignoring us?

Smart PR\\business strategy - ignore the problem and hope it goes away.

Wait; so erasing a facecode from an ME2 file with an ME1-created face yields better results?

Gotta try this nao!

I cannot comment upon the results of such action; I am not currently able to access the game.

Start by downloading the latest build here:

http://svn.gib.me/builds/masseffect3/

Latest versions are quite user-friendly and allow great amount of tuning.

I'm very interested in what they will do. Will they say the patch works for everyone and not do anything? Will they admit that the patch doesn't work for everyone, but say they won't release anything? Or are they going to release a new patch? Or perhaps say there is going to be a new patch, but never release it? Or just plain say nothing?

They better say something though.

Like honestly, was this job outsourced or what?

Funny you ask that. Somebody a couple hundred pages back said he had a friend who worked in Bioware, and he told him Bioware had the face import bug low on their priorities list, and outsourced it to EA because they did not consider it important enough for them to fix themselves. Of course, you can never be sure about what people say online, but it's just something to think about.

The fact that that guy is still here... every day... checking to see how the patch is coming along... even though he's long given up on posting, shows he's no troll! Lol

Please work tomorrow... I played with a new face for my canon Shep, which was the only face that didn't get an error message... but got that random default wrongshep. Hopefully my other Sheps who all got error messages will have a pretty good approximation of my others... or I WILL be angry for having waited for so long!

I feel not just offended. I fill insulted. If feel like somebody pissed on my face. It is so hard to just simply copy the original face mesh like it was done in ME2? And to code the ME3 face for backward compatibility? That's it, BioWare. Good bye. You were a good company once. Now you're dead for me.
