I'm definitely disappointed. I loved all the Mass Effect games. Had the first playthrough with default male shepard.

Then I decided to play as a renegade FemShep, everything was great in ME1 and 2, but now my FemShep looks different. This patch only does the same thing as the fan tool: doesn't get a decent result. What I get is something that looks like my Shepard's sister. But not her.

This is a comparison between the import from this new patch and my Shepard on ME2 :

This is a comparison between the new ME3 import after I customized it a bit to try to make it look more similar and
my Shepard on ME2 :

As you can see, difference is pretty big specially when she turns her head.

It isn't the same person. :( Bioware just got lazy. This is disrespectful.

I don't normally like redheads but your Shep from ME2 is a cutie well done.

After looking over the last 10 pages or so of screenshots I started to notice the same things different.  Lip size really stands out as does nose shape not being quite the same.  Those 2 things can really change how a face looks.  Also even in the Shep I quoted I can see differences with the jaw and cheekbones.  It is just a real shame cause there are a lot of good looking Sheps in this thread though the "fix" itself doesn't surprise me a bit that it doesn't work and people think the extended DLC will be worthy of waiting till summer?

this is my ME2

after importing the face I tweaked it until using the new, completely incompatible face mesh, to look like my ME2

the hair I left so that I can take it out later

once you get past the horrible intro - compared to ME2 it is truly bad, the face starts to look better

Well, he tweeted it himself now. But why does everyone call it the "facecode" fix?
It shouldn't be messing with facecodes if you imported from ME1. Making a new facecode from scratch will almost always result in some differences.

EDIT2: Well, at least he will be updating this thread tomorrow. https://twitter.com/...361137719050240

This whole mess is still pretty pathetic.

I hope they take all this seriously because right now I can say with 100% certainty that their "fix" is the EXACT SAME face I had before patch.  MEANING all they did was remove the error & say "there its fixed!"

No, this is going to take adding features to the character creator.  If they have to completely re-do it thats fine.  As is this is not acceptable.  I have been waiting MONTH to play single player patiently with my suspicions & it turns out I was right to be, because this is EXACTLY what I predicted Bioware would do.

Dear Chris, the faces are not fixed.  Please address the heart of the issue.

Remove the face code from your Mass Effect 2 save using Gibbed and attempt to import the resulting file.

That worked! Thank you so much! :o

As I suspected; the import feature is first importing any extant Mass Effect 2 face code and, if one is not found, falling back to the approximation method.

I am now curious as to how a Mass Effect 2 created face would be imported if the face code is erased from the save file.

Wait; so erasing a facecode from an ME2 file with an ME1-created face yields better results?

Gotta try this nao!

Er, your ME2 save file shouldn't have a face code if you imported from ME1. o.O There should be only a headmorph code, and if you delete that I doubt there will be anything to import at all.

It's so sad that the patch requires yet another workaround to yield better results. *LE SIGH* What a disappointing performance by BioW(EA)r.

A Mass Effect 2 face imported from Mass Effect may have an incorrect face code attached to it if certain steps were performed during the import process.  The patched Mass Effect 3 importer first attempts to import a face code; if a Mass Effect 1 generated face has associated with it an invalid face code, then the resulting face will be from the invalid face.  Removing the face code causes the patched importer to fall back to the approximation method.

I thought ME1>ME2 was incompatible in general. All my ME1>ME2 save files have only headmorphs when I open them in gibbed, none of them has a ME2 face code. (That field is empty in my save files.)

Attempt to import a Mass Effect 1 completion save into Mass Effect 2.  Choose to "customize" the appearance.  Cancel from the customization menu and choose to accept the imported appearance instead.  You will likely observe a face code attached to your character; this code was generated in the customization menu and applies to any customizations made prior to cancelling the option and choosing the imported face.

There is indeed a face code now showing in the squad screen, and it's the code of the ME2 default face... And it produces the same face in ME3 that so many got along with their error message (myself included).

So, since I didn't do those steps back then and accepted the import face right away, my ME2 save files have an empty face code field. And I guess that's why the patch worked (within its limits) for me?

I am gonna LOL so hard when Chris comes by tomorrow to tell us "Everything is groovy, everything is fine" and UPDATES this thread to indicate the issue was FIXED!

I'm almost 100% sure he WON'T bother to read any posts, and sure as hell won't acknowledge that the patch does NOT actually fix the issue!

Yeah my face looks literally the same as it was before the patch. Nothing was changed on importing my characters particular face. **** that ****.

OMG! I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!! It works! :wizard:

I downloaded the patch and it works only if you created a ME1 face but did not edit it in any way in ME2. Faces with no ME2 code, created in ME1, are working now. Thats what happened with my female Shepard... my paragon and renegade male Shepards... not so lucky, but...

...if you created a character in ME1 and edited in ME2, it should had generated a face code that you have to erase using Gibbed as user Dimensio wrote, to make it work when you import your profile on ME3.

I was totally noobish about that program but it´s easy... Just download it , open your save file, go to the "Raw" tab, click on "2. Squad", then "Player" and scroll down to "Face code". Erase it, save, import in ME3 and it should work now!

Not the ideal fix, but it really works. :)

If you expected that, why on earth did you wait for the patch instead of using community fixes?

I sure as hell never hoped BW would fix this rapidly, if at all, so started researching options from day 1. My playthrough is long done, Game+ by now.

As of now, our Yaml+Gibbed method is actually BETTER than what the "patch" has to offer.

My ME1 created face (not edited in ME2) now imports without error, however. It still looks like crap. It is vaguely reminicent of ME1/2 Shepard but it is unfortunately still ugly by comparison.

Why could we not have the same damn heads we had in ME2?

It may have worked for you (although I suggest you look closely to see if stuff such as hair, eyeshape, colors etc really did make it through), but not so for many others, like myself, who selected options in ME1 that are simply NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE in ME3 regardless of whatever you may do in Gibbed etc.

Again, I tried erasing the facecode (or rather, headmorph code), and it didn't give me anything new, simply selected closer fits from options available in the ME3 CC.

Deleting the facecode with gibbed and then importing actually worked!

My character was created in ME1 on Xbox, played halfway through ME2 on Xbox then exported to pc. Completed the game and tried importing in ME3 but instead got some random mexican with no resemblance to my Shepard. After deleting the facecode and then retrying the import I got an exact match.

I'm not sure this is universal but we should spread it so people can at least try it. My guess is that it'll only work for the Shepards that are completely off. Not those that mildly resembles the originals since that mostly comes from changes in the editor.

Also, even though I'm very happy right now this **** is not acceptable. Me and all of those who still have issues have been treated like dirt. Shape up BioWare.

That's a heavy accusation. I'm sorry the patch didn't help you, but it worked for me. Perhaps Bioware should've tested it enough before releasing it though.

Some people are just plain supid.
And I am not talking of any of the guys posting here...

If any of you want to return ME3 for a refund, you should, in case of problems, point out the fact that the product is missing a feature that was advertised. Thus the product itself is damaged and can be returned without problems within 6 months (at least in Europe) after purchase.

I know that this can not be the goal of any of use, because we all wanted to play the game, but it is the only way to show EA (!!) that this is not the way to treat customers.

I really don't think you should erase the headmorph codes... The importer needs *some* data to work with.

Yea, the face code removal works, but I think, in both cases (me1 custom or me2 custom), faces are still too imperfect. ME2 imported them perfectly. Why would it not work now, I have no idea...

Not if you also want to eat... and sleep... and tweet... and watch movies, and chat with friends, and listen to music - ah hell, probably anything in the world is more important than this old thread.
