Hard to do while traveling between countries.

Doesn't he take a plane there or something? Then you have plenty of times to update on your iPhone when waiting, right?

o.O 3 days between countries? Is he taking a bus?

Well, that would give him more time to update us actually.

He just couldn't bother with it, but he can't even admit that.

In Chris' world, apparently telecommunications and internet linkage are still things oft spoke of, but never observed. A strange, mythical force that can only be manipulated by a select few, but for mere mortals it is the domain of witchcraft.

Either that, or he doesn't know how to take his ipad out of airplane mode.

I'm glad to hear PC users can get a workaround with Gibbed...but for people like me who will find out tomorrow how well the patch works, we can only pray to Santa Christ that it works. No workaround for us.

Still, I think I'm going to stop buying Bioware stuff now as well, tbh. I already got screwed with the Isabella/Sebastian glitch in DA2 when that came out, but this problem is just so much more frustrating. I am not even angry any more, I'm just disappointed. This is the company that created Baldurs Gate 2, one of my favourite WRPGs ever made...and this is how they end their glorious space opera?

I'll import my Shep, I'll take whatever I get, maybe try to tweak it...but I'll just end up playing as "Some female voiced by Jennifer Hale"...it'll feel more like my Shepard is left exploring the galaxy after the Arrival DLC. Maybe she got courtmarshalled and sentenced to life inprisonment and only escaped death because my FakeShep saved the galaxy.

But hey, maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones, right? Reminds me, I must check my lottery numbers.

But regardless of how this turns out, ME3 is probably my last Bioware game.

Remove the face code from your Mass Effect 2 save using Gibbed and attempt to import the resulting file.

That worked! Thank you so much! :o

As I suspected; the import feature is first importing any extant Mass Effect 2 face code and, if one is not found, falling back to the approximation method.

I am now curious as to how a Mass Effect 2 created face would be imported if the face code is erased from the save file.

Wait; so erasing a facecode from an ME2 file with an ME1-created face yields better results?

Gotta try this nao!

Er, your ME2 save file shouldn't have a face code if you imported from ME1. o.O There should be only a headmorph code, and if you delete that I doubt there will be anything to import at all.

It's so sad that the patch requires yet another workaround to yield better results. *LE SIGH* What a disappointing performance by BioW(EA)r.

A Mass Effect 2 face imported from Mass Effect may have an incorrect face code attached to it if certain steps were performed during the import process.  The patched Mass Effect 3 importer first attempts to import a face code; if a Mass Effect 1 generated face has associated with it an invalid face code, then the resulting face will be from the invalid face.  Removing the face code causes the patched importer to fall back to the approximation method.

OMG! I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!! It works! :wizard:

I downloaded the patch and it works only if you created a ME1 face but did not edit it in any way in ME2. Faces with no ME2 code, created in ME1, are working now. Thats what happened with my female Shepard... my paragon and renegade male Shepards... not so lucky, but...

...if you created a character in ME1 and edited in ME2, it should had generated a face code that you have to erase using Gibbed as user Dimensio wrote, to make it work when you import your profile on ME3.

I was totally noobish about that program but it´s easy... Just download it , open your save file, go to the "Raw" tab, click on "2. Squad", then "Player" and scroll down to "Face code". Erase it, save, import in ME3 and it should work now!

Not the ideal fix, but it really works. :)

The patch makes it so that a ME1 face can have a code and be imported, from what I can tell. However, the issue where the face still does not look like the original face remains. The face that I got with the patch is pretty much the face that I got with the suggested workaround for getting a code from ME1 for ME2. The code works really well in ME2, but looks very different in ME3.

So, that stupid default face code is a problem.

Next question: Is there anything console players can do to make the patch work?

And again, it's shameful that a supposedly tested & certified patch needs a workaround. After almost 8 weeks of the bug being known (counting demo date).

Okay so after my first reaction, I sat down played with the newly imported Shepard a bit and looked up stuff with the help of the Gibbed Editor. Apparently all numeric values that were stored in your Mass Effect 2 save file were ported over correctly to your new Mass Effect 3 save file.

This means that (prepare for the shock): THIS IS HOW YOUR OLD SHEPARD LOOKS ON THE NEW ENGINE! Congrats!

There I said it. As far as I can tell this issue has been fixed from a programming but not from an artistic point of view.

If you think BioWare is going to adjust their engine for your Shepard -> DING DONG DISSAPOINTU!
If you think BioWare is going to convert the old hair meshes -> DING DONG DISSAPOINTU!
If you think BioWare is going to adjust default values of colors pre-set in the CC -> DING DONG DISSAPOINTU!

It´s over... the only thing we can do now is 1) Keep spreading the word of how ****ty things are around here
2) Play with the numbers in Gibbed until we run out of motivation to even start the game
3) Come up with some experimental mod/hack/fix/patch you name it, to maximize the ressamblance to our old Sheps(very unlikely to happen).

Please proof me wrong if you can!

Here's what Chris has to say as to why he hasn't updated this thread.

@FreelancerEnder Because my phone is not my PC and, aside from the tweets I have read, I have no details. Thanks for understanding.

I'd post the actual link but I'm not very good at Twitter.

Edit: Sorry didn't see the post above mine earlier

Just for clarification and to help others: The import seems to work better with just the headmorph data. Did you try to delete the face code from your ME2 save files?

Worked great for my two male Shepards created in ME1, edited in ME2.

DOWNLOADING NOW.... crossing fingers....

UPDATE..

Nothing changed for me.  I loaded the new patch then tried to upload one of my ME2 saves and the exact same error came up about not being able to import.  Well I guess i have to start reading post after post now .  So it looks pretty clear that I wont ever play ME3.  Unless there is some kind of trick im missing I'm completely screwed.  I hope someone sues Bioware and the company folds.

I got lucky with this one.

My ME1 shep imported fine, only needed some minimal fine tuning. Not exactly the same, but I'm quite satisfied with the result.

ME1->ME2->ME3

My other character, with a ME2 face (and facecode) was also fine for me (with unpatched ME3).

great!!!!

as said, erasing the facecode in my me2 save using gibbed editor and then importing it to me3 gives me my shepard and not the ugly face. Here i post a comparison between what i got using the yaml method and the imported face using the new patch (after erasing the facecode from the me2 save using gibbed editor)

yaml method

import with the new patch (deleting facecode from me2 save with gibbed editor first)

nearly the same so i'm happy

NEED HELP! I created a character with ME1. I then imported that character to ME2. I try and load my shep to ME3 and it doesnt work along with the error. I download the patch. I try it again and get the exact same error. it seems to be working for many people on here. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

I click "NEW GAME" then select "Import ME2 Character" (only option). Next screen has to the left, when I created it 2010/01/27 plus info on my character. This is my only option here as well and I select it. Next i am giving about 7 choices of save file to import chacter. When i select one I get the loading screen then pops up the error code "mass effect 3 cannot succesfully determine the custom face code..." Is there something I can do? I still ahve my ME1 save files as well. PLEASE someone HELP ME!

How do you delete the face code from ME2 ?, is it under "remove head morph" ?.

Using gibbed save editor

Go to Raw Tab > 2. Squad > Player > Face code. Delete the face code and save the file (overwrite it, make sure you backup the file before overwriting)

Am I supposed to edit my ME2 or ME3 save in gibbed? If I try to load an ME2 file it says the gibbed version is too recent to support it, and if I remove the facecode in an active ME3 save nothing happens.

Use the Gibbed ME2 editor. Not the new ME3 editor.

Highlighting this from neonism for emphasis. I wish people understood that instructions should be more precise than “edit it in gibbed” when it's obvious that a lot of people aren't even sure about which bug they have :)

Going to see if this fixes the problem with the new engine…I'm assuming not.

obviously you have to edit your me2 save which is the one you are going to import into me3

You can edit your ME2 saves with Gibbed's save game editor for Mass Effect 2:

I'm using the last official release (rev25).

Is there a way to change Shepard's appearance without starting a new game? Thanks.
