So: the patch didn't change anything about how my faces import.  They still don't look like the same people from ME2.  More examples from various people in this thread, some of whom have already said that the patch didn't fix anything for them either: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/9739936

At this point, there's really no reason to think that Bioware is going to fix this.  After all the discussion of it in this thread and others, they still haven't even said one word about it yet.  So it doesn't seem likely that they'll ever even acknowledge it, let alone do anything about it.

Maybe there's some hope for a fan fix...the thing Woodbyte posted with being able to map out the location of all the LOD vertices seemed promising.  But with people having to do that in their spare time, if they even get a chance to at all, I'm sure it could be a while.

So, no ME3 for me.  I still won't play unless I get my Sheps back, and if I never get them, I never play.  Even though I bought almost all the DLC for 1 and 2, I won't be needing any this time around.  And, my swtor sub remains cancelled.  And after DA2, that series is over for me.

I used to want Jade Empire 2 more than any other potential Bioware project...but the way things have been going, maybe it's just as well if they never make another one.

My face did not transfer over correctly from ME2 to ME3.  Here are the comparisons.

Character creator differences in ME2/ME3 with no changes to face code.
Posted Image

Doesn't look so bad in the CC, but rendered in game is quite different.

ME3 left, ME2 right

Deleting the gibbed code did not work for me.

With some tweaking and experiments with photoshop overlay, I found that the original eye and nose shape I used changed position in the ME3 slider. However, that was not enough to get the same face. With some more photoshop overlay experiments, I found that the basic mesh structure had changed on the brow and jaw. The brow and jaw sliders do not alter the points where they have changed. Basically, I would not be able to get the same face without a custom headmorph, and I don't foresee investing time into that.

With some tweaking I was able to get a fairly close replica. Replaced original eye/nose that was moved on the slider. Had to drop and widen the jaw. Using the same proportions did not look right as in the top example.

While it is pretty close, I still don't get the feeling I'm looking at the same person in game.

I know a lot of people are complain that the patch didn't fix there face import more so with femshep, and I think some of that has to do with BioWare removing hair, color and texture mods that where in ME1 and ME2 from ME3. So this will create difference in the imported face because its trying to draw on features that are no longer available in the creation kit. Now until BioWare states this, this is just my opinion, PC and XBox users might be able to fix this with Gibbes but don't think this issue will be fixed for PS3 or users that don't use Gibbes until BioWare puts back in the missing features.

So I imported the first time and it was better, but still not right. Tried the gibbed thing and for some reason I have no face code, so I can't do that. Also even in the improved version, she is still missing her renegade scars.
Bioware, why you no fix issue?!

Um, about those renegade scars,

Spoiler

So what time Edmonton time did the patch drop for PC users? Im trying to calibrate the time for the console patch.

MS and Sony control the patch release time for consoles, not EA.
MS will release sometime between 12:00 AM and 5:00 AM PST (west coast US)... for the Xbox at least.

OMG! I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!! It works! :wizard:

I downloaded the patch and it works only if you create a ME1 face but did not edit it in any way in ME2. Faces with no ME2 code, created in ME1, are working now. Thats what happened with my female Shepard... my paragon and renegade male Shepards... not so lucky, but...

...if you created a character in ME1 and edited in ME2, it should had generated a face code that you have to erase using Gibbed as user Dimensio wrote, to make it work when you import your profile on ME3.

I was totally noobish about that program but it´s easy... Just download it , open your save file, go to the "Raw" tab, click on "2. Squad", then "Player" and scroll down to "Face code". Erase it, save, import in ME3 and it should work now!

Not the ideal fix, but it really works. :)

It may have worked for you (although I suggest you look closely to see if stuff such as hair, eyeshape, colors etc really did make it through), but not so for many others, like myself, who selected options in ME1 that are simply NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE in ME3 regardless of whatever you may do in Gibbed etc.

Again, I tried erasing the facecode (or rather, headmorph code), and it didn't give me anything new, simply selected closer fits from options available in the ME3 CC.

Unfortunately, this is the exact same problem I encountered with my very first import, and still encounter even with the patch. I no longer receive the import error message, and the facial structure looks the same, but hair color, facial hair color, brow color, and eye color are all wrong. I understand that adjustments to the Unreal engine changes things, but palette colors, at the very least, should not have changed.

For reference, this is what I'm looking to recreate:

Please fix it, Bioware.

For me ,patch fixed face issue. I have exactly the same Shepard which I created in Mass Effect 1. Good job Bioware with this patch.

You cannot say with any degree of legitimacy that Bioware did a good job if it only works for a very tiny few. A Good job by Bioware (Besides not having released the game until this issue was actually, well you know FIXED!!) would be if the patch fixed the issue for EVERYONE!!

Until then, It is actually a LAZY and half a*s job by Bioware. But given the amount of bugs and what not in ME3, I expected as much. This game can sit in the same pile of games I don't care to play/finish like Duke Forever!!

I'm glad to hear PC users can get a workaround with Gibbed...but for people like me who will find out tomorrow how well the patch works, we can only pray to Santa Christ that it works. No workaround for us.

Gibbed's editor works for saves generated on the XBox 360 console.  Only Playstation 3 users are without recourse.

Most of my shepards faces have been fixed with the exception of one, but her face has always been a little strange even in ME2 so I can accept that.

Well after being insanely pissed off and the patch not working, all my problems were fixed by putting the ME2 save in the gibbed save editor, deleting the facecode and then saving and overwriting the save and importing it into ME3. MY shep looks perfect now!

Could those who say works/doesn't work please also say whether or not they used gibbed to delete the face code from ther ME2 save? This should help others. Posting pictures also helps getting an idea what to expect.
mr_fro2000 wrote...

add another one to "it worked"... looks almost identical to my old shep. Just in case anyone wanted to know, I created in ME1 and imported to ME2. I did not use the yaml tool at all (i basically waited for this patch).

Also, I did try importing my face code from ME2 to ME3 and got a totally wacked out shep. I acutally re-imputted my exact code i got from ME2 (by hand) back INTO ME2 itself and got the same wrong shep!!! go figure.

Anyways just wanted to let people know since most are saying that a ME1 created shep is having better success w/ the new patch. Oh and my shep is male.
TBH i have not been following this thread as close as many here have been... i've just been checking up every few days or so to see if there is any news... so with that said, im not sure what you mean by "gibbed to delete the face code from their ME2 save".  All i know is in ME3 i chose my shep when creating a new character and it looked like him.

as i said, i DID go thru the process of watching the intro of ME2 to get the facecode (a few times), and i did try it out in ME3... it did not work.

i see a lot of people are having probls with femsheps, so im wondering if most of the problems are w/ the ladys and not the men.

I was almost possitive that they werent going to fully fix the face importing issue the way we wanted them too, so i was not surprised at all when i discovered this was so. I just cancelled my SWTOR subscription because of this and am boycotting Bioware/EA games from my home untill they somehow redeem themselves and prove to us loyal fans that our opinions matter to them.

Don't hold your breath... But yeah I saw this one coming a mile away. They don't give a rat's ****. Not bothering with EA games as a whole and a majority of game companies as well. It's saved me plenty of money since I seldom buy any current games lately.

I'll test out this "patch" when it comes out on the 360.

This patch wasn't successful in resolving my facial import issue. I did not make any adjustments to Shepard's facial structure between ME and ME2, and used my save file from ME2 for ME3.

I don't quite get how this happens:
Posted Image

I understand that the hair colour I originally chose is no longer available, but the rest of the changes (her eye colour, hair style, facial structure, everything) is completely off... what happened? I don't have an issue adjusting things as simple as hair style, hair colour, or even eye colour, but her entire facial structure translates completely wrong, and I find it very frustrating.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I can do to help with this?

So.... how did the patch get approved for release? Who certified it? This is ridiculous. I'm awestruck by the complete amount of screw ups and moronic steps that all had to come together to make this monumental problem get widely released not once, not twice, but THREE times. It was pointed out in the demo, and was not fixed. It was allowed to make it to launch, and now this "fix" is nothing more than an automated version of a fan made fix. Holy crap Bioware get off your damned asses and fix this properly! Get people on the certification team who actually give a damn!

I want my money back.

RIP Shepard.

So, basically, EA (I'm not calling them Bioware any more, because it now seems completely clear that Bioware is now nothing more than a name that belongs to EA) took a full month to take the YAML workaround posted in post 1 of this thread and automate it.

Well, EA, you allow such a fundamental bug for loyal fans of Mass Effect to make it into the finished game, then take a FULL MONTH to release a patch which utterly IGNORES half of the problem, all the while utterly ignoring any and all requests about information in the very thread YOU set up about this issue, including when it was specifically asked if it was only half the problem that is fixed, which, as we now know, is, in fact, the case.

I have NEVER seen a company that treats loyal customers and fans with as much sheer, unmitigated contempt as this.

This.

And how do we access the save file from the 360? Gibbed will read the 360 hard drive/thumb drive formatting?
Also, we then modded a save file, which MS frowns on. I wouldn't chance the gamerscore reset and/or LIVE ban.

Wow that sucks...I'm sorry for ya :crying:

I hope that doesn't happen with mine that I try tomorrow, but my gut feeling says it probably will.

Why they changed what was working fine for the first two games I will never understand.

From what I gathered since I was the first to notice the patch fail, is that if the player made fixes didn't work for you, this won't either. It seems Bioware just tried to do what others first did, just make it official.

Ahhhhh, can't wait till that Capac guy sees this. He's going to let it rip.... lol

No, not really. All working as planned and expected at EA.

The PC patch had certification? Cause if tomorrow the 360 patch doesn't work, then WTF is wrong with Microsoft's QA?

So this thing isn’t fixed yet?

If EA/BioWare hadn’t messed up the importer or playtestd the game in the first place we wouldn’t have this problem would we?
