Lets not forget hard to see makeup also. ME2 character creator IMO was the best. I have no idea what they are going to patch, maybe just make your shep look like your shep as close to possible. But overall I think tweaking the facial graphics would be a massive undertaking because it could affect the game overall and I know that would be a unrealistic task for Bioware.

well that gives me some hope, i wonder if i got face code though?  whywould it get generate one for some of yours but not others?  doesn't make sense.

From ME1 to ME2 some facial features were also decreased. So some Shepards from ME1 used facial features that weren't available in ME2 but they stil managed to get imported, there just wasn't an option to provide them with an ME2 face code.

Other Shepards from ME1 happened to use features that were also available in ME2's character creator so they got a code. These Shepards can easily be imported into ME3 it seems with only some minor alterations due to ME3 having even less options.

Whereas the system used to import complex faces from ME1 who can't have a code seems to not be included in ME3.

ok thanks for your input, i had hoped this would be the case, there is a lot of non-info floating around in this thread lol.

i have just to wait now,  my shepherd wasn't exactly crazy looking, i hope he imports ok.   i had a go with the CC in the demo and got pretty close i think.    fingers crossed.

There is no way Bioware didn't know this was happening. I wouldn't be so frustrated right now if I didn't feel that they were just going to try and act like nothing was wrong, just to see if it was a big deal to some people. I know for a fact its not for some people, but for me, a very significant personal event happend the day Mass Effect 1 came out. Playing that game was my only means of escape at that time, and THAT Shepard almost became my best friend. I still remember how excited I was to see that face again about 1 am the night of the Mass Effect 2 launch. Fast forward to Monday night, and the dissapointment can't even be put into words. It was like taking a long road trip to see an old friend just to be told he died when you get there.

I'm currently playing with an "approximation" of my old Shep, and it just doesn't feel right. Don't get me wrong, the game is fantastic, but I just can't enjoy it because I'm too fixated on the cheap knockoff saying the lines with that weird, not quite right mouth. I've already restarted the game 3 times, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to again to give it one more go at that face. I'm probably just not going to play single player until they fix this, so I can finish his and my 4 other Shepard's story.

My biggest fear is that this can't be fixed. You don't make a series of games that allows you to carry over your character through 3 different iterations (one of the very few games to try to achieve this) and not test that aspect somewhat early in development. I think at some point they realized it just couldn't be done. If it could be fixed, it would have been done already, or available as a day one patch. I hope I'm wrong.

Currently, a whopping 75% of people are either "very upset" or "Infuriated" that Bioware has let this problem slide. 41% of people say they won't even play the game in its current state. Express your opinion in the poll if you haven't already:

So I'm having the same problem - can't load my character appearance that I have used since November 2007.

The reason Mass Effect games are considered such awesome RPGs is the ability to make your character come to life as a real person.  Not being able to recognize that character you've really developed and grown attached to is very frustrating and disheartening.  I feel ya man.

I'm afraid it's pride on the line that prevents the importing of faces. A lot of the reviews the game has been getting 10/10 on notes the very high quality of the textures, characters, faces, etc. If the game had allowed importing faces as-is from a game released several years ago, the first thing these professional reviewers would have done is nail Bioware's art department to the wall for looking outdated.

In comparison, pissing off fans doesn't reduce a developer's reputation.

This is potentially true  Bioware (or perhaps parent EA, more likely) was more worried about not drawing in new buyers due to outdated graphics.  They may have figured that they needed an edge to get non-fans to buy the game, while figuring the long-time fans would buy the game no matter what.  And because it's the last game in the series, they don't really need to be worried about people coming back to buy the next game.

The 3 games use the same engine, and importing a face from ME1 to ME2 you could clearly see and upgrade in the graphics, something I'm not seeing at all from ME2 to ME3, hell! I even think that ME faces looked better than ME3 ones!!

I'm talking about faces only, while the rest seems to have upgraded faces look.... I don't know, bland?

Can anyone with the actual game, preferably PC, tell us if the graphics look better in the release?

It is an upgraded facial engine with better facial meshes, animations and animation controls. It's still the same game engine, but the facial overhaul is evident, particularly in expressions and in mouth movements while talking. It looks good, but the facial textures are limited and unremarkable, and it goes without saying that my FemShep does not translate into this new engine.

I picked the "Infuriated" option, not that I *feel* infuriated, more along the lines that I just plainly won't play it w/o my Shep.

I lot of people including I thought they would make the CC better after the demo.Better lighting, non wax figure look, obviously visible make up...Your not the only one who thinks Bioware ignored the CC.

I voted Infuriated, because I do feel furious, and am commenting so to bump the link.

I understand, but for the sake of not making a million options for the poll, I lumped some stuff together, lol.

I feel more *disappointed* more than anything, and I do still have a bit of hope here since they did say they were looking into it.

Yeah, I'm more disappointed too than I am upset, but it seemed like more people were angry or upset, so those were the options I put for the poll.

Heh, yeah I get that. Hopefully the more people that vote, the faster BW will look into fixing it asap.

what is interesting is how little importance was given to this problem - I would not call it a callous decision but certainly it was showed a lack of understating of what the costumer (=gamer) wanted.

I'm considering PMing the link to Chris Priestly or one of the devs after I get a bunch of votes, so they can actually see what huge percentage of fans this has negatively affected.

The whole Character Creation seems bugged even when trying to recreate my Shepard's face. I posted about it once before, but I'll just bring it up again to see if anybody else noticed.

When selecting eye shape, the traditional 1-9 and A-whatever, cant remember how high it goes, is all messed up. It's skipping around to different letters and numbers even though it clearly isn't that particular one. For instance, when I import my Shepard from ME2, which was a direct import from ME1, when I go to choose which eyes I want, it goes 1-7 no problem. But the next spot isn't 8. It's E. Right after, it goes back to 9, then to A-D. However it goes from D right to F, completely bypassing E as if it wasn't there.

Hair styles are the worst. When moving the slider from left to right, it starts at 1, then goes to D, then 5, and is just completely random with the code.

There are a lot of options that are completely missing. Specifically, I can't seem to find the right eyes, eyebrows, and nose for a few of my Shepards.

Bioware have said that they were working on a patch to help import Mass Effect 1 Shepards into ME 3.

Does anyone know if it would be even possible to fix Shepards that were using different character model assets in ME 2 and ME 3? What happened to all the missing stuff?

Because getting your Mass Effect 1 Shepards to import won't help much if they import incomplete or incorrect like many Mass Effect 2 Shepards do.

Most of the stuff present have simply been updated to look more realistic and such, but a lot of things have been shuffled around and removed entirely - making this a very real issue.

Except for eyes.... I swear they look a lot more jagged now (at least the default female eyes).  Which I don't understand why they did, when default manshep, Ash, Kaidan, Joker, Miranda, TIM, etc., etc., etc... haven't lost their geometry at all :/

Hi,

So I haven't got the game yet since I live in EU. But was worried that it would break for me as well. So i followed THIS guide to get my code from ME2. I did one little thing (since I sit on a PC) different, I swapped back an forth between the import and custome creation to compare. Took a screen shot in each angle and did the final touches. I needed to adjust the things mentioned in the guide and also my cheek bones (for some reason) and Ears Orientation. Here is the comparision between the to ME1 import & ME2 Code. The only difference is the iris color which is brighter/stronger in the import, nothing to do here and I can live with that.
Then i opened the demo and pasted the code. This is my result.
 Posted Image

It looks a little werid to be honest, but I guess I will get used to it. I think the game will make it look like this, so guess there ain't nothing more to do than PLAY! ^_^ So don't wait for the Face be exactly the same, cause the ingame grapfhics/feel isn't.

Best,
Dougremer

While I do think this is a massive blunder on BioWare's part, I was able to recreate my Shepard to look very close to what I had before. It's not perfect, but it's close enough that it doesn't bother me. Still, really unbelievable that BioWare let this happen. Enjoying the game despite it, but I don't get how they screwed this up as it seems a pretty major thing.

Voted infuriated cause I am! It's like a recast of the main character in a movie triology for the last film and acting like it's OK and not a big deal. :/

I haven't tried yet to re-create my Shep, I might give that a go later today. I transferred him from ME1 to ME2 so how exactly would I go about seeing a face code if I have one? I looked at his squad profile while on the Normandy and I don't see one on the screen like some claim it to be, but maybe that's cause I'm on Xbox?

I keep hearing about these face codes and quite frankly I'm confused about them???

I have a bad feeling about all this and I think a fix might be a month or more away (if there even is one) so I'm going to try and make my Shep again in ME3 but I'm doubtful. He didn't look ANYTHING like my Shep when I tried to import him. I wanted to cry, I really did. I was like a slap in the face for all the years I commited to this character and this series. :[

Yeah, makes sense. I think the best thing to do is to get as high number of votes as possible. The larger the number of people dissatisfied with the import, the harder it is to ignore.

I don't like it but who ever screams the loudest usually gets noticed.
