I took the trouble of enhancing the posted ME2-ME3-VI comparison screens, and make them easier to compare. I do think the VI looks a bit more like the ME2 character than the ME3 CC version.

Left: ME2      Right: ME3    Bottom: ME3 VI

Guys, I start to think it's ONLY the eyes know. What do you think?

Maybe the forehead, but the again the hair is different. And the darkness of the lipstick.
So please BIOWARE, fix the EYES! :D

/Dougremer

It is the eyes i keeped my face code writen down just incase i needed it one day and the only thing i had to change was the eyes.

Maybe a slightly bigger chin, a slightly wider mouth and yeah, that forehead just doesn't look quite right.

Alright so here is my attempt to recreate my Shepard from ME1. I apologize for the crappy image quality these were taken from a phone camera.

So here is a straight import from ME1(the eye color is a little washed out but these are the violet eyes):

Here is the same face using the workaround(now with grey-blue eyes):

Now here is the ME3 import using the workaround:

What do you guys think? I think it kind of looks similar but its still feels off.

She's off - I'd still complain and settle for nothing less than my Shepard's face having the same geometry as before.  I like that the lip texture is higher res - I'll generally always be happy about improved textures - but the eyes being entirely replaced by these new things is just horrid.

One of the biggest complaints I have is the make up. You get a good solid feel of what it will look like in ME2 but, ME3. This is a joke a can hardly see its so suttle.

Yeah I hate that the eyes look like glass and not natural, organic. But I doubt the patch would fix that just make the overall transition working very well from importing.

Maybe. But if everyone comes to agree that the eyes are the single biggest concern, it'd be easier to drag artists and programmers in to have them specfically focus on redoing the eyes than trying to tell them to redo every single one of the options in the character creator.

I agree that this is what they need to focus on the most.  If all they fix is the import feature for ME1 sheps, then we'll have to start a new thread about this.  Because ME2 created Sheps are suffering from this too.

Well hopefully with some tweaking I can get it to look a little close to the original. Hopefully. Honestly I think its just the eyes that are throwing it off.

Posted Image Posted Image Upon closer inspection they aren't exactly the same by a long shot, but I think the resemblance is there. I dunno but it seems to me the face models in ME2 are better.

We kinda started to move on, but, figured I should say something. Thank you for going to the trouble of taking and posting these screenshots for us. I appreciate the effort, even though I do have to agree with you - the VI's face decidedly is not the same as your ME2 face (or your ME3 face, for that matter, looks like...). It's a pity that's the case, but at least now we know the issue isn't so simple.

I agree, the eyes are totally off.
I also noticed that the distance between the eyes and eyebrows is increased ( I think it is to avoid clipping with the new facial animations ), some mouths are gone, and faces are longer.

And make-up has been washed out, I personally can't tell which eyeshadow color I'm picking in the CC.

Sad, because I consider my Shepard eyes her defining trait ( I was using that neon-green texture from ME ) =[

I can't even imagine what my other Shep is going to look like.... I was so happy with how she turned out....

I spent about an hour recreating my canon femshep from a picture I took of ME2 on my TV -- on an Xbox so I couldn't get the facecode, although it sounds like even having the facecode isn't very helpful.

Definitely disappointed by this bug, like everyone else here. Having one consistent Shepard across all three games is a huge point of the series, IMO.

I managed to get her relatively close, but the eyes are definitely off (and the nose too -- I feel like there aren't as many nose adjustments you can make as before). Sometimes in ME3 I see flashes that look almost perfect, and other times it seems like I'm looking at my Shep's sister or cousin or something. It's jarring, to say the least, and keeps pulling me out of the game...maybe I'll get used to it (only about 3 hours into the game).

Anyway, any further info addressing this huge bug from Bioware would be much aprpreciated.

There's the adress to the picture (bigger). I start to think the 3rd looks more and more like the ME1. The forehead is because of the hair starts further down. But the rest is spot on. Damn those eyes!

Id like to add that that ME3 shep is built from scratch, the import didn't work for me, if that makes any difference. And sorry if it didnt help so much.

I'm really heartbroken about this. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I wouldn't be able to transfer the look of my character over to ME3. This is so disappointing. I'm on 360 and I'm just sitting here staring at the screen in disbelief. I certainly don't want to start the game. If a fix isn't possible, I'd like to return this. I have no interest in playing a game with someone other than MY Shepard.

Sadly, me too I couldn't import my Shepard face from ME2 into ME3. Luckily however my save games' story and character levels were able to be imported. BUT STILL, not having been able to import the face is disapponting.:?  I had to remodel it and I couldn't import the blue-in-blue 'Dune-esque' eyes which my Shepard had in ME2 -- I had used gibbed face editor to create that in ME2.

Here's my Shepard in ME2. The eyes were customized using Gibbed Face Editor.

Now since I've already started the game in ME3, I'm wondering how will I be able to customize the eyes back to how they were in ME2 without having to restart the game. <_<

My Shepard in ME3 (eyes aren't the same):

Hey Bioware, an ETA for a patch is the least you could do. Your product is not functional; a key component is broken. This is the first time I've ever had buyer's remorse for a video game.

I agree if a fix isn't made in a timely manner I'd also like to return my copy, a bit harder since i have the digital version haha.

Perhaps then, both importing your face into the CC and into the VI are buggy, but while the CC doesn't import at all, the VI somehow forces the import to work (because there's no option to "recreate" the face for the VI, unlike in the CC), which sometimes results in faces being completely off (like some have reported), and other times being farly close (like yours), because the VI's face definitely looks closer to your ME2 character than your ME3 character, it doesn't look like the VI took the face from your recreated ME3 character.

What the hell was the point of revamping the entire engine to the point where nothing is recognizable? Bioware dropped the damn ball; all the good in the game is now essentially moot because of an error that a preschool student would have acknowledged at any of their meetings.

I realize that this won't contribute to anything, but I'm just posting to say that I will not play nor buy the game while this issue persists and is not fixed by Bioware.

It is a major focus of the series to make playing these games a personal experience, and having the main character be unique to each of us, a character that has accompanied us for years (since 2007), and then bluntly taking it away from us. No, just no.

I think I'm going to put a picture of my real Shepard next to me when I play so I don't accidentally start accepting the horrible version ME3 forced me to make.

I can't believe you let a game ship like this. So, I am essentially being punished for playing the series from the beginning? Isn't being to bring your story, and character appearance, pretty essential to the whole BioWare concept?

I cannot tell you what a huge let down this is.

Well this blows the only Shep I can use is the one I made to look like me. The Rest except the one I made in my image are gone. The one I have showing is my mane but still. At least the one I do have is the one I would most hate to loose.

Seriously, I saw the screen after it gave me the error, and my jaw dropped.  Really?!  Come on, man I was so damn upset it was ridiculous.

I have five finished saves from me2 all with custom faces. 4 of them carrying over from me1 and one being an me2 only save. Not a single face imports correctly. With the 4 me1 saves I get the default shepard face or the error code. The me2 face is the only one that somewhat worked. It imported, but the face was completely different and he actually turned out bugeyed.

I honestly don't know why Bioware had to mess with the graphics. ME2 graphics and CC were just fine. I hate all the new hairstyles =/
