While I was doing BW's job for them, I had an epiphany. All of us who are infuriated enough to not play over this fiasco aren't really hurting BW's pockets. They've already got their money if you've opened your copy. So, here's my idea:
No support until we get some support. Until we get a patch that gives us our Shepards EXACTLY, no more money on BW products. No ME3 DLC (which they'll probably release before a patch,) no BW games, and if it means cancelling my SWTOR subscription, well, I'm just that incensed.
Bottom line: I don't buy for a second that NO ONE noticed this GLARING problem. I'm sure they said, "well, by the time they know about it, we'll already have their money. If enough people whine, we'll figure out a patch later." Whoever made that decision needs to get punched in the pocketbook. They care more about their bottom line than our story, so let's hurt their bottom line until they stop hurting our story. It's really the only way.

Bioware, I hope you know how really, REALLY badly you've alienated your fans with this. Don't think for one second I'm going to believe anything you say about any of your games in the future, much less buy them.

Well, thanks to many of the guides here, google, a USB drive, Modio, Notepad ++, a calculator, and a ridiculous amount of effort, I have done what BioWare should've given me a button to do. I have created a reasonable facsimile of my Shepard. He's not perfect, but he looks more like my Shepard than the blue bimbo looks like my Ashley.

That might not be entirely true, though. Chris was awesome for at least saying something about it and that they're working on a fix. If they had truly turned their backs on us, there would be no such response. It probably wasn't intentional, but it was a horrific oversight, and in no way do I, or should I, forgive it.
I paid them basically all the money I made all year for this game; I told everyone who would listen about how awesome it was. I was actually crushed when I read about Emily Wong's untimely demise on twitter. This was the only game series that I ever cared about enough to play through the entire trilogy, not to mention multiple times. It was the first science fiction since Star Trek to fully capture my imagination and interest.
So now what am I left with? A promise that there will be a fix soon, and a giant hole in my heart. A hole that can only be cured with medi-gel. A sadness only shareable with my (non-specific to avoid flame war; we're all on the same team here) Love Interest. A fever which can only be cured by Mass Effect and Commander Shepard. The real Commander Shepard. My Commander Shepard.

Said perfectly, I blame EA for this 100%, i'm sure as soon as Bioware found out about this they asked for mor time and EA responded by saying the release date is set and paid for, so shut up and color.ZJR12911 wrote...
They don't give a damn they got paid already. Which really blows my mind because EA has made this company it's little **** and they have gone from being a loving dev to a greedy listener hmm maybe the collectors represented bioware and the reapers are EA "assuming direct control"Spybreaker wrote...

I know it may seem cheesy or whatever, but this is truly depressing. These past two days feel like I've just gone through some kind of break-up or something...
Like many of the others here, I refuse to play the game until this is fixed.
I was so ready for this to come out that I took work off for 2 days only to sit at home with nothing to do because I couldn't play the game. Everyone commenting on this forum has built up sentimental value for their characters. It's like your dead father giving you a "special" fork. Yeah it's just a "fork" or in our case a "face", but it means the world to us.
You've turned a bunch of avid fans into depressed/angry people. Fix this.
Wow really? I was a little dettered at first as well but I was too excited not to play the game. Played about 8 hours of mostly campaign and a little multiplayer and boy are you missing out. Suck it up, take one for the team and play the game. You would think they could give us an easy customization tech in the medical bay of the Normandy to fix this as well. Like I said though, import your character and play the game, you're missing out.

I couldn't hold off to play simply because I didn't get my Shepard, it sucked, but seeing as I took 2 days off from work I couldn't just sit home and doing nothing.

That's the thing. I applied for some time off for ME3 but couldn't get it, ironically enough largely part to ME3 (more specifically: working at a place that sells games and being down several staff due to them recently leaving to study full-time, so they need me for the first two days of ME3's release.). I'm kind of happy now I didn't up using up leave for the game, since it's so broken, and there's a bigger chance of it being fixed before I even play it since I won't even get a good go at it until Saturday night/Sunday.

ETA on update?
It's like someone decided a robot Optimus Prime wasn't necessary and so they put Tom Cruise in his place.

ETA on the fix BioWare
This. At least keep us in the loop BioWare, all we want to do is play YOUR game the way we thought YOU intended us to play it. To advertise and and promote the personalized aspect of the game and then to pull a stunt like this is not how loyal fans should be treated.
Same.
Hopefully this week. I'm refusing to play until this is fixed.

I'm reminded of planet scanning when ME2 first came out: people complained to no end. Eventually, it was optimized with a patch sometime in mid May. I see no reason why they wouldn't do the same with this now, especially since it's clearly something that can be dealt with with a patch.

Guys, I'm reasonably certain this will be patched in the coming months (probably by May-June). It's not the kind of issue that you'd expect to stay; they could easily patch it since it's nothing they can't do anything about.

I don't think fans are going to want to wait three to four months just to get started on ME3.

I totally know that and I agree. But unfortunately these things do tend to take a while. It would be awesome if they could patch it next month (or even this month), but I just don't see it. It took them a few months following release to patch ME2 and DA2, but it was worth it in the end.AssistantSensei wrote...

We still don't know for sure if they 1) ARE going to fix it, or 2) even CAN fix it. If this wasn't such a colossal cluster-screw in the first place I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, but that being the case, I'll believe a patch is coming when I download it and it works.

Uh, May or June?
I hope not for a lot of fans sake, very rarely do I defend or back people's gripes in regards to a video game. But this is totally unacceptable and while I have enjoyed playing the game as the Shepard that isn't mine. The fact remains, importing your character is one of the biggest draws to playing Mass Effect and yet this happens?
Again, it's unacceptable and if anything Bioware/EA should had some slight decency giving people the heads up about this. I would had still bought the game and just dealed with it. But they didn't do that.
Because I won't believe that not one member of the development had no idea that this would happen.

As I said, it's possible that they patch it this month but if history is anything to go by, they won't. DA2 had some serious import issues upon release that weren't patched until a couple months later. The same goes for planet scanning in ME2, which wasn't patched until sometime in May (and the game was released late January).StephanieBengal wrote...

So, I'm going by BioWare's past and applying it to this scenario. Believe me, though, I do hope they prove me wrong and get it over with in the next few weeks or so, but I'm honestly not sure they will. According to Chris and Jarrett, they're still "investigating the issue"; they haven't even started working on a fix yet.
