Because a lot of people have been asking how Bioware and EA couldn't have known about this going into launch: they did. CyberMurph posted on the poll ( http://social.biowar...20/polls/29029/) the link to a technical support page about importing faces from ME2 to ME3. On this page, with a most recent update of 3/1/12, it clearly says: "NOTE: Some ME2 saves will not be able to import the face-file of your Shepard. You will need to re-create the appearance when importing the file." So there's your (unfortunate) answer. Here is the link to that page:

https://help.ea.com/...3?showhome=true

Then they are really ignorant or - sorry - very, very stupid. Bioware knows like nobody else how to tell good and intense storys in a video game. Therefore they had to know how important this is to the most players.

This is not something like the From Ashes DLC. This is a major problem with the game and I am pretty sure that this falls under false advertising. The product does not work as it was stated to work. The fact that this is now onto 52 pages with no response from anyone in Bioware is rather disheartening. There is not even a comment on their facebook page about this. The company boasted about keeping the same character through all three games. Having to recreate the character on the third game because he/she did not import properly is a major problem. From what I have been reading on the web it either transfers over nearly perfectly or not at all. Bioware; you need to come out with a statement on this subject, not just was you have at the start of this topic. I really hope all of this is being read. After this and the poor choice of one or two dialog options in the main game, I am pretty disappointed. I am playing on RPG on hardcore with an imported save that actually worked and I am surprised by the good and equally surprised by the bad. In short fix your broken game before a class action law suit gets filed on the company for false advertising or at the very least, release a press release stating when a fix will become available. I do not think the company needs to loose money on this so I would hate to hear that it has a class action law suit against it for false advertising. And No I am not suing the company.

I think we should all bombard EA support with requests to refund us for the game. Enough pressure from corporate and maybe they'll at least tell us something. Yelling on this forum isn't exactly driving the message home.

Well that definitely proves that they were fully aware of the issue and let it go into the final production, so either they didn't think people would mind it, they thought it would be too expensive of a fix, or they just didn't care.

I called support the other day and I got we do not have an answer at this time regarding that issue. Than the phone disconnected.

Question: when you normally import from ME2 to ME3 (i.e., you weren't using an ME1 imported face, so you don't get hit with the bug), does your character retain the Renegade scars?

That's the only thing stopping me from using the method outlined to generate a face code & just move on - I'd like my Shepard to keep the Renegade scars. But if you lose those no matter what, then there's really no point in waiting (assuming I can generate a Shepard that looks reasonably close to mine).

I am going to keep posting the link to the poll [http://social.biowar...0/polls/29029/] every once in a while, and when I get several hundred people voting on there, I will send it to Chris Priestly or one of the devs.  This way, they will have actual numbers and percentages to look at.  Right now, half of people who voted say they won't play the game until this issue is fixed.  Hopefully that number should shock them a bit.

I've successfully convinced two of my friends to not get their copies for the time being so that two off the hook. Everyone should follow; until this problem is resolved, Bioware doesn't deserve our money.

Off to warn more ppl who didn't get their copies yet.

I'm having a really hard time trying to decide if I should just suck it up and play the game or wait out the patch. I just hate not having any idea how long that wait would be. Wish they told us SOMETHING. Even if its along the lines of "It will be at least 2 weeks, could be way longer".

On the bright side, I got my Shep looking fairly close to the original:

EDIT: I can't post images?? It says *image removed* when I try to embed them... any ideas?

ME2 - original (not sure why he's cross-eyed in this pic...lol):
http://i.imgur.com/4LhvC.jpg

ME3-post fix (made by hand, no face code stuff):
http://i.imgur.com/G1MsH.jpg

ME3-pre fix (how he was after my failed import.... not even close! This was the base I used to tweak, getting him to look like he does above):
http://i.imgur.com/drNlg.jpg

I started playing with my "new Shep"... he does look kind of different (especially in the eyes/brows), but I like to think he has just matured like an actor does on screen. I'm literally only like 20 minutes into the game (and wow, what a start), but if after a couple hours I'm just not fully comfortable then I'm going to restart once the patch is out.

^^That's exactly what I was thinking. Isn't there some kind of beta testing and a demo in fact? A lot of ppl complained ever since, they should've known way back when fans pointed out, so it's not like anyone can say they didn't know about it. They should've fixed it in the time between the demo and the launch.

Yep, great poll.  I put a link to it in my thread where I posted pics of my ME1 and ME2 Shepards, along with the ME3 import and how totally different it looked.

And naturally, I voted 'Not playing unless fixed.'

I bought a flash drive and jumped through damn hoops all morning to convert my 360 saves to PC, but once I had, I could use the tool from the first post same as PC players can. It worked great and now I have my Shepard in the third game. She looks a little different, but in that same way that everyone in this silly game does now. The art changed a little, but she is definitely my Shepard now. Pretty happy I didn't bother waiting for BioWare to fix this.

Did you follow a guide to do this? You got a link for people who want to try this?

Not really. I kind of went with a mishmash of things I found and trial and errored them until I found something that worked.

Here is basically what I did.

1. Start a brand new Mass Effect 2 save file with your Mass Effect imported Shepard. It has to be brand new, because you're going to need to move, not copy it, to a USB flash drive that is formatted to work on your 360. You don't want to do this with your finished game save, so make sure it's a new one (i.e. right when you wake up from your coma, save and quit).

2. Go to Settings in your dashboard, System, Storage, Hard Drive and find your Mass Effect 2 save (not "Mass Effect 2 Importer"). Inside, you should find files for all your DLC and each of your careers. They will all be named after your Shepards and dated. Move the career you just created to your USB flash drive (don't copy, because the Xbox won't allow it).

3. Download and install this program on your PC (it's best to have this version): hotfile.com/dl/143431599/02eaea8/Modio_3.zip.html

4. Plug your USB flash drive into your PC, and using Modio, select Open from a device. Click the device you see. Mass Effect 2 should pop up in that list. Select it, then select your Shepard's save file. When the following window pops up, click the File Contents tab at the top. You should see several .xbsav extensions. Right click one of them and extract them all to your desktop (or where ever you prefer).

5. Go to this website and register on it: legion.cal24.pl/me2/

6. Once you've registered at that site and logged in, click the My saves tab at the top of the page. The specific save file that you extracted to your desktop (or where ever) that you're going to want to upload here should be named Save_0001.xbsav. Go ahead and upload that save on this site.

7. You should now have one save listed at the top of that page with a string of options following it. The second to last option on that row is Morph head. Click that option.

8. Now new options show up. You want to click Export YAML. It should download a file to your computer called morphhead.yaml. Check this file in Notepad to make sure it's all in code that you can read (only read, not necessarily understand), otherwise the file is mucked up and you have to try this step again.

9. Once you have a decent YAML file to work with, upload it in one of two places, depending on the sex of your Commander Shepard -

Female Shepards will upload heremasseffecttools.99k.org/femshep_upload.php

Male Shepards will upload heremasseffecttools.99k.org/maleshep_upload.php

Remember to add your Shepard's name, because it's how you recover the face template code.

10. Lastly, you're going to want to get your Shepard's code, again in one of two places depending on the sex -

Female Shepards codes are heremasseffecttools.99k.org/femshep_code.php

Male Shepards codes are heremasseffecttools.99k.org/maleshep_code.php

All you need to do now is enter the name you typed when you uploaded your YAML file, and bam, instant Shepard readout and code for your Shepard. There will be a little tweaking required (as pointed out by the ***** asterisks), but it shouldn't be anywhere near as bad as trying to recreate your Shepard from scratch. It'll generally be little things like hairstyle, makeup color, or eye color. You know, the easy things to remember and fix. Everything without the ***** next to them should be correct, though.

And that's pretty much how I got my Shepard back without waiting for any sort of patch. You just enter that code you get at the bottom of that page into your custom character creation back on your 360 copy of Mass Effect 3 and do the necessary tweaking and you're done.

Seems like alot of work for an issue that shouldn't exist at all..... =/

Until its sorted, no Mass Effect 3 for me....think I may go and buy something else instead...which is a damn shame, coz I love Mass Effect 1 & 2.....

Because it doesn't affect the gameplay, at least the story part... You can think of it as "ehhh what the hell i just want to play", or like me and many other - "hell no i won't play so many hours looking at this fugly dude pretending to be Shep"...

SNIP.

This actually worked really well for me.  After the debacle of trying to recreate on Tuesday night, I tried this last night and it came out really well.  At least now, I can play the game and say that's my Shepard instead of the imposter I tried to play with on Tuesday.

All that being said, the fact that I had to jump through hoops to get to this point is completely unacceptable.

Christ Priestly, why don't you care about our Shepards? You made us (because it was so much fun) play the previous installments and become attached to our Shepards, just to make us play with a STRANGER? How? I don't know this guy running around with my Shepards identity. I want my old Sheps face back. I can't indulge myself into the world of ME3 until its fixed. Until then, I'm playing something else. We know you launched the game, knowing this glitch is included. We know

I agree 100%, but it is what it is and what it is is not going to stop me from playing this game if I can help it.

To be perfectly honest, I've done most of the work for you. You can just sit in this thread, follow steps, and click links. Shouldn't take you more than half an hour, if that. That's including tweaking your Shepard in game. The longest, most tedious part is just starting a new Mass Effect 2 save.
