Issue importing faces into Mass Effect 3 Updated March 21

I tried to get it close but after playing 96 hours in ME2 and 72 hours in ME1 with the same character, it's a tough transition. It's like replacing Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man with a celebrity look-a-like. It's close, but you know it's a fake!
I can't completly immerce myself in the story!

Christ Priestly, why don't you care about our Shepards? You made us (because it was so much fun) play the previous installments and become attached to our Shepards, just to make us play with a STRANGER? How? I don't know this guy running around with my Shepards identity. I want my old Sheps face back. I can't indulge myself into the world of ME3 until its fixed. Until then, I'm playing something else. We know you launched the game, knowing this glitch is included. We know
Makes his "crazy idea" he suggested a few weeks back about not importing on your first ME3 run seem kinda...I dunno....I just dont know...<_<

In any basic testing phase of a system's cycle, we're always told that game developers play the whole thing from A to Z and test every single feature, let alone the most important one in the ME franchise, the save import. I mean, this is no random "issue" we're talking about, this is the reason many got hooked on the game. Say that they were actually dumb enough to miss it while testing, then there's no chance they missed how fans clearly pointed it out during the demo. So yeah, it feels like we've been cheated, since they knew about it and were probably too lazy now that the launch was near. There's always a price to pay for fast money, and they chose their customers' sanctification. Not smart.

SNIP.
This actually worked really well for me. After the debacle of trying to recreate on Tuesday night, I tried this last night and it came out really well. At least now, I can play the game and say that's my Shepard instead of the imposter I tried to play with on Tuesday.
All that being said, the fact that I had to jump through hoops to get to this point is completely unacceptable.
Happy to hear that! It worked ok for me in the demo. So hoping the full will give me that last %.
The guide works very well, better than doing it from scratch. At least you will have a great ground to start with.
Happy hunting!

Seems like alot of work for an issue that shouldn't exist at all..... =/
Until its sorted, no Mass Effect 3 for me....think I may go and buy something else instead...which is a damn shame, coz I love Mass Effect 1 & 2.....
The longest, most tedious part is just starting a new Mass Effect 2 save.
I was considering that.... I've finished all side-quests/loyalty missions and I'm just about to head off to get the Reaper IFF. 27+hrs.
Will the importer work if I tweak my ME1 Shepard slightly? (ie new hair/facial hair?)

i took the plunge and went ahead started the game even though it failed to import. 6 hours in it's still hard in the cut-seens when i see my character.

I know what you mean, I just sucked it up and started playing. And while the game is great and some scenes with the face are good other are kind of meh. The problem is that I'm 12 hours in and I don't know if I should just stop now and play MP until a patch or just keep playing.

Are you asking about the literal file named "Mass Effect 2 Importer"? Or are you talking about one of the tools I linked?
'Cause if it's the former, no, it won't work. You may as well just sit there for five minutes and slog through the start of Mass Effect 2 again until it lets you create a save. S'all you have to do. It's not going to affect your current career. Even with the same imported Shepard, it'll be saved as a brand new, seperate career. That's why you do it this way, so you don't have to touch your important save file and you still get the character you imported from the first game.

I hope you can understand why many are upset about this. Playing my custom character was my reason for finishing this series. Let's face it, the story isn't even that great even in ME1....I know, how dare I insult the great ME1...get over it. And since ME2, the gameplay is little more then some subpar third person shooter. But I don't play this for its weak gameplay or its passable story. I play it because I want to finish this series with my character I made. I can not do that and because of that, the game is broken and unplayable as the feature to import custom characters was the main reason for playing the game. I don't expect compensation or even an apology from anyone associated from Bioware. I expect them to ignore us. Others that posted before me understand that it isn't about customer satisfaction anymore. That is simply how the game industry is now unless you are an independent developer trying to build a reputation. I only expect that they fix their mistakes and make things right. To assume that our demand that they fix their mistakes is audacious is an insult to many that have supported Bioware in the past. I guess this is how things will be in modern interactive games. I miss the old days when professionals knew what they were doing and worked hard not only for money but to make sure that the customer had the best experience possible. Maybe you think that is too much to ask but I think that is the least we should expect from these so-called "professionals".FlyingWalrus wrote...
Guys, Bioware is not your ****. You aren't ENTITLED to an update every 24 hours or whatnot. You do not need to know every detail of the process they are going through right now, if there is one at all.
I can understand why people are upset, but the audacity of some of you, sheesh.

That link made me very confused... I still don't understand what I'm supposed to do in order to make the import work. There seems to be an alarming number of tampering with file information, and I wouldn't risk corrupting my files until I'm fully aware of how to do it.
Any more clear instructions available?
Then backup them somewhere so you CAN tamper without stress...

If this was in response to me, trust me, I made the instructions as clear as they'll possibly get. There is no file tampering, only file moving. You create a file, you move it, a website you upload it to gives you another file, that file gets you a face code. Very simple if you break it down.
You're creating a new save file, pulling it off your 360, and it's never going back on your 360. All you get back from it is the code you can use in Mass Effect 3.

if i didn't already own Kingdoms of Amalur i would trade in my ME3 and get that this so unacceptable they take little bits out the game like guns and make them as DLC and then the most important part of the game doesn't even work.
we all got royally screwed
We got screwed by faces not working right, but I won't begrudge them day 1 DLC, well typically I won't begrudge someone day 1 DLC, but in this case, they clearly knew this was going to be an issue and I wish they had spent the time fixing this instead of the Day1 DLC

Dude - answer simply as ****:
I ******* payed for it, when u try to renew ur house u get crew to do that, pay them and leave them be?? Because the rule is simply the same... I very much enjoy the BioWare games and respect the company, but i think since EA bought them (or most of their titles), the precision of making games decreased...

The day one DLC doesn't even bother me. They do it all the time, I'm used to it, I just tool up and buy it. I'm like, whatever. Nothing worth getting all upset over.
This issue, though. No, this issue killed all my hype and I only just now got it back this morning when I, myself, fixed the problem.

So, I've uploaded my file, proceeded to the "Code" section, typed in the name I had given it and clicked on the "Generate" button. All throughout there was no indication over if it worked or not. Do I just need to start up ME 3 now and expect it to be solved?
Start the game, import save, when it shows that face couldn't be importer choose to make own and paste that generated face code in the box... Then u will know, we can't predict the outcome...

I just thought of this. Someone at BioWare actually had to write that error message about the game not recognizing the imported face and that we have to recreate the face. So... they had someone make an error code for something that might happen and they never bothered to test when the error code should not show up? Did they even write a similar error message for ME2?
This has been brought up before and its a big slap in the face. It actually scares me in thinking they knew about this all along and couldnt fix it. Its to bad the game is completely broken and unplayable. I look forward to when the game works.

All the way at the bottom of that page is a code, as I've said. That is your face template code. Use that when creating your Shepard in Mass Effect 3. Tweak as needed. Every feature with a ***** in that list will need to be tweaked.
