Agreed. Khan is at Bioware having an evilgasm watching the outrage and doing nothing about it.

On a side note, I ended up using the automated script that was available on the http://masseffecttoo...k.org/index.php site. My Shepard (Male) face code was generated, and he looked perfect! Only thing I had to do was change his skin color and hair color back. All of the facial features remained in-tact, and I've been playing since.

I spent an hour last night trying the tweak the YAML-imported file and could never get it quite right. I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes of the game without quitting in disgust. This is not the Shepard I have gotten to know and love over the past 5 years. It's an impostor.

I'm not playing until I get my Shepard back. And I'm done with multiplayer too.

As a matter of fact, this will probably be the last BioWare game I ever buy, most definitely the last BioWare Collector's Edition I pre-order, then stand around for 2 hours for a midnight launch. (Got home, installed without an issue, fired it up, and found out that the Shepard I've been playing with since day 1 of Mass Effect won't import.)

The fact that they *knew* about this bug and put a note in the EA help articles before launch is just unforgivable. Personally, I consider this a major breach of trust, and I'm not going to go through it again.

Yes, this may be dramatic, but that's how I feel. Going through Mass Effect 3 without the Shepard I've known for 5 years is a non-starter.

I just tried to recreate my Shep as close to the old one as possible. At first, in the CC, it looked surprisingly promising, but only because i didn't see the body or the animations. During the initial sequence, i felt like i was being stabbed in the eye, quartered and ripped apart. It looked like an abomination, an evil contorted Shepard from hell. I couldn't watch it and had to quit as soon as it was possible. Miss the renegade-scars and eyes...

This is as good as I can do, as a professional game artist, in reproducing my original Shepard with the ME3 CC. Because I know many of you with FemShep out there have a similar looking FemShep, I humbly offer up the facecode I came up with. Feel free to tweak it to your leisure.

553.ALI.NP7.A51.839.F6W.6JC.7A1.DL1.H38.666.826
and an improved code, lifting her facial features a bit:
553.ALJ.LR7.A55.739.L6W.6QC.791.EL1.M38.666.826

I started a new game with this face and so far I haven't balked completely at it, but it's still upsetting to me that I've spent a good 4 or 5 hours in the character creator three days from launch instead of actually playing the damn game. Bioware should be ashamed that this is what they've subjected us to.

I'd offer to try to recreate each of your Shepards, but I know the satisfaction would be relative and to varying degrees, and it'd be an irrealistic offer on my part - though I'd love to help you all, where would anyone find the time for that?

Thank you guys for joining your voices together. I don't know if we'll actually get Bioware to do anything at our behest, but it means a lot to me that all of you have cried out, complained, problem solved and offered advice and help back and forth for a full three days now. It makes me glad to see people sporting the I AM NOT PLAYING UNTIL I HAVE MY SHEPARD BACK.

For the record, it's not me who said it first; we were all saying it, at the same time. We're all in this together.

What's the best way to try to do it on your own? Other then trial and error?

For me is actually a favor. I can play all DLC in ME 2 save. Beacose something goes wrong and DLC resets.

[Edit] As a note, I've realized the eyes I picked are not quite the best shape. There's a pair of more almond-shaped eyes about one or two ticks to the left of the eyes I selected in the facecode. Give those a try instead if you're not feeling it.

This is a good example of why this is a problem.  Even someone who is professionally skilled as an artist cannot remake their Shepard, because the tools to do it simply aren't there.  It's like telling someone to make an accurate copy of an oil painting with watercolor paints.

That depends on the definition of "fix." If by fix they simply mean allowing ME1-made Shepards to import without error, possibly not too long.  However, that's only half of the problem.  Even those Shepards that CAN import often don't look the same, as you can see, and that's because a lot of the old textures are missing.  I don't know how hard it is to adapt those textures from the old games to ME3, but at the worst they would have to be completely redesigned from scratch: THAT would take a long time (if they even decided to do it.)

This is wrong, I've been playing 'bout five hours for now. Can't go on. Too many characters as default, wrong, too many of ex-teammates, wrong. F***

Maybe it's time to try gibbedsave or whatever was it...

This, let's say, has a big vacuum in it.

Here's another slightly updated code, since I realized her facial features could be pushed up a bit:

I'll wait for an official fix, got 4 saves, 2 males and 2 females.

Male are default Shepard and female are custumized and not gonna play till they fix it.

But i can say that i'm really dissapointed about Bioware.

One of the most important point of Mass Effect is the fact that you can import your saves.

I have to concur that this is more than just slightly annoying. Especially since the people it most affects are the most loyal fans of an otherwise brilliant franchise. A quickly released and easy to use fix/patch/ workaround will go a long way to assuage those of us with whom our character's image has more than just a "slight" emotional attachment. Thanks for posting this Chris.

Custom faces look much, much better. Less ape-like. I got an unexpected face but was pleasantly surprised.

I also tried Recreating my FemShep from scratch. There are some things that make it impossible. Eye separation was one. Could not get the right eye shape and eyebrows either. Could not get the cheeks suken in enough.

But the killer is, once I finished it and got it as close as I could the the pics I had, the in-game model was just far worse. I don't understand but she looked like a neanderthal in there, so I gave it another shot but this time compensating what I now knew the game did to the model.

I gotta say, I don't think it's ever going to come close enough to feel right, even with a fixed import. It looks to me (having been a coder myself AND worked in the game industry for a while) giving us back our ME1/ME2 shepherds is going to be one huge undertaking in terms of a patch. I don't see this happening and if it does, it's going to take a long while...

I am VERY dissapointed in this, to say the least. I have to think that BIoware let this go to gold under huge pressure from the money hungry suits at EA.

Indeed, I meant to thank Bioware (aside from the import glitch) for fixing much of Me3 custom faces. Sheploo now has proper shiny aligned teeth.

What help is that, really? It just tells you to make sure the game is up to date, and to be sure the game is finding your savefiles. We know that - the problem is how the savefiles are being imported, which means the game already imports them!

I tried recreating my shepards face and the assets just weren't there. Why make such drastic vanges to the CC. Your likely to make anougher Mass Effect anyway, Save these kinde of graphical changes for an instalment that doesn't rely so heavily on importing exact facial features.
I was devastated when I encountered this issue last night and I am still torn between playing the game and waiting for the fix.
Its validating to see the amount of outrage this has caused. While I understand that this isnt as much of an issue for some people it really does have a major impact on alot of us.
I think that everyone who feels this way should put it on the forums even if you are just repeating other posts. Bioware NEEDS to know how this affects its users.

You'd think that someone would've caught this during testing. I find it hard to believe that none of the game's testers imported their ME1 character to ME2 to ME3, only to have this issue occur. And in case it hasn't been addressed yet, if you were someone who imported your Shepard from ME1 to ME2, you'll notice that there is no facial identity code listed at the top of the squad screen in ME2.
