Kinda sad that some people have to jump through hoops just to get their Sheps working properly. Oy.

I think it's worth stating that the tools Bioware links to do not ultimately solve the issue. I went through the process and wound up with a Shepherd that required basically as much tweaking as if I had started from scratch to get to look close.

The insult to injury is that the Shepherd VIs have all the features of my Shep that I couldn't get (e.g., correct hair color, facial scars)

Finally cooled off enough that I'm not too mad to play though. Feels a tiny bit weird instead of REALLY weird.... this was just such a stupid/obvious thing for them to get wrong that I dunno how/why they missed it.

Let's give them patience guys. If a couple of weeks go by with no comment or update on the situation, then you can say mean things like that about them.

That's not to say we shouldn't still voice our concerns about how big of a deal this is.

I was patient with them while they developed the game... and this most certainly should have been a part of the development/testing process and not the "oh... well we have 9 gazillion people whining about this on the forums... guess we'd better do something after all" process.

A very agreeable stance.

Though I must add to it, that if we are not to get any response in two weeks, nor any official patch or solution to the issue in the near future, then we should vote with our wallets, next DLC ? Don't buy it.

I hardly believe that to be an impossible task, specially given how frustrated we all are about this.

For those which have problems with that tool site, I had problems getting Explorer 9 to do anything with it (uploading files, etc). Try Firefox instead.

Unfortunately the face code it ended up giving me still looked nothing like it should have. Not that it's at fault, Bioware just completely messed up.

You ppl are too forgiving for my tastes.   As I said before, they have known about this problem for a long time, yet to avoid hurting their sales figures they make no mention of it to the community, until they can no longer contain it.  One of the key  features of the franchise.  I understand they are a business, and perhaps they could not justify the expense of making a seamless import into the new model.  That doesn't excuse them from ignoring that a large portion of the loyal and existing fan base is concerned about this.  They could have released information to the community that would have allowed us to be prepared for this, possibly even have something better than these work arounds, and create a win-win situation.  Instead, they allow us to be surprised by this.

Well in my case, lesson learned.  I really don't care if they release dlc for this or not.  I refuse to follow their waste down the sewer on the promises of rainbows and lollipops.

My character doesn’t import correctly. I’ve tried to rebuild him again to look like he used to, but I simply can’t; his eyebrows and hair colour don’t match, his face is fatter, his skin is slightly darker, and his neck is thicker, and no amount of tweaking fixes that. On top of that, giving my character a light skin tone creates a weird purple shade across his face, an only his face, in some cut scenes; it’s very noticeable, and quite jarring. All this means it’s like playing with a Shepard that’s only partially mine, and it’s frustrating - especially in a series that has largely based itself upon the running consistency of your story arc over multiple installments. I have no idea how BioWare managed to make this sort of a mistake, because it seriously erodes one of the gameplay pillars of the series.

I'm quite disappointed. It's also upsetting that we're having fairly significant issues like this, considering BioWare has said they were too busy with the game to include long-requested features like gamepad support or high-res texture packs on PC. If there were these sorts of issues in development, the game should have been delayed to ensure it was released in a fully functional state.

Oh, I know. It definitely shows that at least one department or fraction of Bioware is incompetent. It had to be either incompetence in their testing phase or incompetence in decisions by managers to push a product that isn't finished.

Either way, I don't doubt for one second that at least someone knew about this problem beforehand in development.

Someone either knew about it and decided not to check the technical issues, someone knew about it and management decided to keep it supressed, or someone knew about it and was trying to fix it while management rushed a broken product.

The only possible way that Bioware could claim that none of those cases are true is to say that no one in the company plays the video games they make. That would be a pretty sad direction the gaming industry has gone if it was true.

I am going to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt and assume this is something they are trying to fix. If they don't fix it and give an ETA on a fix within a couple of weeks, definitely be the last product I buy from them. Why should I buy products from someone if I know they don't care if it works. Ford treats me better than that. I receive letters in the mail that something is going to break long after a warranty asking me to get it fixed for free.

Until then, I will just call for them to fix it and be a responsible company. If I don't hear from them in that time frame, they obviously don't care about their product or me, and I dont care about them.

You'd think they would have responded with some kind of news about whats going on. Either its fixable short term or long term, just let us know for god's sakes.

Really, hey?  I'd like to know if I should bite the bullet and play now, with Shepard's estranged brother, or to hold off for a few days.

Truth be told, my friend, a fix won't be coming that fast.  However, news of what's going on would and they could at least do that.

What is this mystical thing called the "True" fanbase? You are not a fan if you like action rpgs? Not a fan if you like MMOs, not a fan if you are a woman, not a fan if you are gay. I have heard all these things. A fan is someone who likes the Franchise. The end.

Inclusivity is the basis of alot of good things and the best way to appeal to fans. Especially fans who have been ignored for a long time. I am trying to be nice but when you make being a fan a special club only very specific veiws are allowed in is silly. Whats next special decoder rings?

I think a better word is Original Fanbase. The only group this really affects are the ones who have supported the series since its beggining, these players should atleast be able to play the game with their character, and should be the last ones who are ever alienated.

You obviously spend to much time picking one word apart and I'm sure you could of figured out what I meant. This game is so far off from the original and the fact that BioWare deliberaty looked over this problem is basically their way of saying "F-U" to the long time fans.

I think BioWare's sitting back, lurking this place and enjoying how some of us are slowly cooling it down and discussing those tweaks and how to work them instead of bombing them like we did yesterday.
So no, I ain't gonna look for a solution, I'm staying here and venting no matter how long it takes to get my money's value. It's their job to fix it not ours.

Well the thing is that workaround still doesn't work for a good portion of us, myself included. So count me in.

The "solution" isn't a blanket fix anyways. Do to assets being changed/removed, plenty of people are having no luck with it at all. Seems like some people are under the impression that it's this magical fix that will make it work no matter what. The truth is that your millage may vary.

Hi everyone

We are aware that some players are having issues importing the faces of characters from Mass Effect 1 or Mass Effect 2 into Mass Effect 3. The issue is likely in how faces were detected when imported from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2, and we’re working on the best way to correct it for affected players.

As our teams work hard to address the importing of face codes we would like to call out a fan made tool that may be able to help PC users in the short term:
Mass Effect Tools

Hey Chris, to give you an idea of how important this is. I originally spent 3hrs creating my original Shepard in ME1. Importing from ME2 has got to be one of the highlights of my gaming life of over 20 years. Then after shelling out $129 for the special addition I was mortified to find it wouldn't recognise my save and so I spent another 2 hours with photos trying to replicate my original femshep, now after playing for six hours I just am not happy with my results. I'm actually going to go back and fine tune some mistakes I made of the recreation as It's so intergal to the experience. Perhaps I'm an extreme case but I think it's worth noting how dire this situation is for long term fans as we basically cannot continue the experience because of this major oversight in the games development.

So, I've been able to make a pretty accurate recreation of my Shepard at this point, but I guess my concern with starting now is that they'll come out with a patch and what I could have transferred will end up being more accurate than what I can make. Like, I guess I'm uncertain exactly what rules the import will adhere to without being able to see what it will be like. Is it possible that the import process would allow for things that are no longer selectable from customizing a face? I'm assuming nobody really has any idea since we're all here for the same reason.
