Who are we….

If we look at the numbers I don’t think it looks good for us. Out of all the people who have played the ME series, we are the ones who chose to change our Shepard’s looks. Out of those we are the ones who use features not used in ME3. Out of those we are the ones THAT CARE if we watch Clint Eastwood play Han Solo with Harrison Ford’s voice. In that, there is not many of us in the big picture. This was not an oversight, this was a calculated business gamble. Once all the Launches are over we will get a statement of why the import doesn’t work for us.

Let’s face it, we are Gamers we won’t say we are not going to play EA/BioWare games and mean it. At best I can say I will not preorder, or only buy their games used. I love to game… always have and always will. Yes I am VERY DISAPPOINTED and I have not put ME3 back in my Xbox since I got the import warning, and I don’t want to play it without my Shep but… Who are we?

I Hope I’m Wrong

Takes 5 years to build up immeasurable goodwill.

Takes 5 seconds of negligence to ****** it down the drain.

Bioware up to a couple of years ago I used to count among the gaming industries' "good guys". A company that seemed to care and cherish it's fanbase and eager to build a catalog of games built around a genuinely emotional experience that was framed around some version of high adventure.

I count the Bioshock guys and Bethesda among those as well.

Then when EA bought them over, I seriously jumped back a little and winced. Images of Bobby Kotick rubbing his pighanded mitts with glee as he bought Blizzard/Infinity Ward. It was a similar flash of spleen curdling horror.

This happened I think just prior to Mass Effect 2 launch. And little gripes aside, ME 2 is Empire Strikes Back levels of win.

Then Dragon Age 2 happened. I won't elaborate as I'm under doctors orders to stay away from machetes and post offices.

Then this thing. All this time I'm wondering... "Don't these guys have a PR department? Don't they understand the concept of business goodwill? Customers are willing to let a lot slide as long as they know a company cares, or at least pretends to care with some level of veracity."

Instead we get a halfhearted reply and a stonewall response since the thread started.

The astounding levels of neglect to the eldest of fans for this franchise is simply gobsmacking. We were the ones who took a chance on an original IP. Something that wasn't based in George Lucas' chin or Saving Throw vs Poisons. I still remember the original mantra behind mass effect. Create a unique character of your own, and blaze through an epic trilogy.

The whole point in what they were selling is a deeply felt personal experience. So how any pencil pusher could take this problem as a negligible or acceptable loss in order to meet deadlines and space balloon launches still angers me.

Whether or not the fix comes soon, it just shows by the actions or lack thereof, that the tenets behind BioWare have changed. It's no longer to develop an intrinsic and personal experience for the beloved fan. It's impersonal unit shifting, where acceptable loss margins and bottom line gains supercede the need to actually remain right there with the fans with the same passion and commitment to quality as when they first started.

That's probably the most disheartening thing of all. That our enthusiasm is now taken to as an opportunity to exploit rather than a motivation to deliver.

My Shepard was killed and blown out adrift into space. And so far. There's no Lazarus project.

I won't be tempted to buy DLC at all, unless this is fixed.  And it won't even be a protest, exactly.  It's just that I'm not even playing the main campaign due to this, so I have no reason to want add-ons.

I bought almost all of the DLC for 1 & 2, and they were worth the money to me.  But then, that was back when my Shepards looked like my Shepards.

Real software piracy is not defined as using a piece of software and not paying the full price for it...
but paying the full price for a piece of software that is useless.

Right now ME3 is useless to me because I paid for the "experience" of continuing this storyline that I started years ago.

I was thinking that also. I love playing ME3 but not with default Shepard's face...

OK. I left an angry post a while ago, but I was way too stoked to wait. I booted up ME2, took a whole bunch of photos, then spent half an hour getting it just right. The game is super duper awesome, by the way, even for a person who was a fan from the start.
So for everyone waiting for handouts, stop it. Handouts are no match for hard work. Woah, I should run for the republican nomination.

I mean it.  But it's not a snap decision I made in one moment, based on one thing.  It happens over time.

It's like when I used to collect comics when I was a kid.  I'd kinda get hooked on a title and feel compelled to keep buying it every month, even after I was getting kinda tired of it.  Then it would get to the point where I was still buying the issues, but not bothering to read them.  Then I'd just forget that a new one was even coming out, and not buy them anymore.

I bought DA2...but I didn't even finish act 1.  Didn't even start the Deep Roads expedition.

I bought ME3...as soon as I saw that my Shepards looked like different people than the first two games, I stopped playing.

I think ME3 marks the end of my "still buying, but not playing" stage.  Now I move on to just not buying.

Wow is the nerd rage strong in this thread.

I understand all the concerns about being unable to import your Shepard's face which has been apart of your ME experience since day 1 but lets take a step back and breath deeply.

Bioware said they're going to fix it. They can't pull a patch out of their butts in 24 hours. Be patient.

Just my 2 cents.

So... here we are. Sitting on our saves and waiting for BioWare to release a fix but am I the only one who thinks that releasing a simple fix for the "could not import face bla" message is enough? I for one think our Sheps will not look the same ever in ME3 with the only exception being some strange workaround that copies the raw headmodel from ME2 and makes it usable in ME3. I think the new graphics engine is the real cause for all this trouble and I don´t see how this can be adressed in just a few days (if at all). I´m 6 hours into the game with a vague recreation of my old femshep and it really bothers me so much that I keep switching back and forth between the CC, the game and this thread and it really destroys the immersion. I don´t know what to do now and I´m hoping to see someone coming up with an experimental and crazy method to import our beloved faces into Mass Effect 3...

Excellent idea!  Perhaps if we all did this, the new CC will never be fixed!  FANTASTIC.

Its not just this issue. Its the "reverting toon to lvl1 at inoppertune times" Its the "Wrex alive/dead" thing. Its the faces. The storywriting and dialogue or lack of both. And a metric ton of other "features".

Bioware of old didnt do this.

I simply refuse to believe this didnt come up during internal beta.

I was thinking about this.  Like... they could just tell long time fans to frell off, because if we're long time fans.. they got our money.  They'll have the money of the newer players who aren't having this problem.

What I'm hoping is that they wouldn't have stickied this thread at all if they didn't intend to try and help out the fans that helped put this franchise on the map in the first place.

I am very and powerfully disappointed in this oversight that could be found the moment you hit Start.  I've always stood up and stood by Bioware since KOTOR.  Never bought their games used and alway bought their games day one of release.  So I do really feel crapped on that this wasn't handled and I will feel let down if they don't fix this.

I Haven't started the game yet and I'm not going to until I get an official word if this can be fixed or not.

Activision did not buy Blizzard. It technically worked largely the other way around. Vivendi bought Activision, already owned Blizzard, and merged them together. So really, if you want to point any fingers at that company, it's Vivendi.

It's a frustrating situation indeed ! That said ...

BE AWARE GUYS, should the next DLC be announced before the issue is solved, then MAKE YOUR VOICE BE HEARD by means of what really matters to these people, cold hard cash.

So, I was tired of complaing and waiting, so i helped myself in an easy way: I've started ME2 and rebuilt my shep from ME1. The result was at least very much better than rebuilding the character with the ME3-tool. After that I've written down the face-code, started a new game in ME3 and inserted the code in the face-editor.
Okay, the result is not as perfect as it should be - but at least I can recognize "my" shepard again. And I'm able to play without being annoyed the whole time.

Of course one could also argue that if they actually did their job properly, there wouldn't be the need for a fix since it would work as it should.

I, too, have a hard time believing this wasn't caught during QA, really.

I have a strange feeling that behind the scenes Bioware and EA are fighting back and forth because EA wants Bioware to make this "fix" a DLC pack; charging us money for all the missing facial features. EA is master when it comes to marketing, and if they lose a small % of fanbase, just to make a nice profit, I'm sure they'd want to do it.

Last night, I took the plunge and restarted my Mass Effect 2 game with my ME1 Shep's....made slight changes to both (hair/hair colour etc) got the face codes for both. Silly question? But will that solve the problem?? =/
