Yeah, I think the real question is if Bioware will ever add any old assets back in, which I seriously doubt. That's the only thing that would make me wait for a patch. I'd like to know if they ever plan to so I can get on with working around or not.

The ME 1 Shepard problem is relatively easy to work around I think. You'd just need to recreate them in ME 2. If that doesn't get a good version of Shepard back then it's the fault of the radically different character creator.

You don't need to. The moment it is opened, just click on Open from a device.

It's okay. It's still Shepard. He just got a nose job...and Botox...and an emo haircut.

Sigh. Seriously, BioWare? Seriously?! Aaaall that time to map the different storylines and no ME1 importer? Maybe copy/paste FROM THE LAST GAME! Beyond frustrating.

You don't need to register it.  Just open your save with "Open from Device" then view contents and "Extract All"

I tried opening a save on my computer and it said it couldn't be opened as it was 'invalid package'.
Then I copied the save to a USB stick and tried 'open from device' but it says there are no devices to be found.

Just don't old your breath for a fix, I actually don't think there'll be one. I can't see anyone taking reponsibility for this in BioWare HQ so it'll most likely float around and fade into obscurity, just as I can't see any of them bothering to put in the effort to revert the face options back to ME1/ME2.

None of it would have happened if they'd done the same as they did transitioning from ME1 to ME2 where they used the exact same models for face parts and hair and upgraded them slightly - instead they seem to of made completely new models that are just "similar", which throws the entire face off when every part of it is "not quite the same".

It's the hairs that did it for me if i'm honest... I can get a very similar face, but the hair has been updated and looks worse.

Here are pictures of my Shepard, from all three games. She didn't import at all and I didn't recreate her:

I think I missed something.  You have pc, right?  You already have your game save.  Modio is for xbox containers to extract the saves from within them.

I just went through the steps to acquire the facecode of my ME1>ME2 Shep. After putting it in the CC, I found that it recreated my Shep perfectly. It seems that I got very, very, very lucky in regards to this. Though it seems to have worked for a fortunate few of us, it sounds to me that most of those who went through the process either wound up with an ImposterShep, or worse, a horribly disfigured FrankenShep. There is nothing that I can say at this point that hasn't been said but I'll say it anyway.

This is absolutely inexcusable.

Fix this.

This is true.  If you're on Xbox you need Modio if you're strictly PC you just need to upload your save to the ME2 Save Editor to get your YAML file to then upload to the ME Tools Page

I suspect we are going to be left holding the... ugly faces. If we're stuck with Anderson, Udina, and Bailey... we're probably stuck with our new hideous Shepards. I suspect the problems are related (which I think others have said). I got very nervous and ill when I first saw Anderson in the Demo... now I know why... completely. I echo most of the comments here: they should have tested this, they should have re-tested the import completely after every add-on or change to the program, they should have delayed the release date once they knew it was an issue, etc. Shame on them. This makes me want to wait an extra week before picking up ANY game release... This hurts them and the industry.

Just checking in for an update to the broken unplayable game i purchased. Nope, nothing. Well thanks again EA/Bioware for still standing by the "we don't give a sh@t about you" mantra.

But apparently faces like Joker, Kaiden and even Ashley all look the same (people have listed others as well). So there are at least as many that aren't impacted as there are that...well are.

I just don't buy that they can't fix it. The question ultimately is will they and will they put forth the effort to do it right?

Shepard survived the Omega 4 relay, only to fall off the ship on the way home landing on her faceteeth.

I tried once again to recreate my femShep, but no matter how much I meddle, it all ends up looking... wrong and distorted. The CC mechanics just seem so much different than in ME1 and ME2, I don't think it'll ever be possible to get my exact Shepard back. Fine, I can live with that, if I could just get her to even remotely resemble my original Shep. Why they would change the CC so drastically is beyond me.

I wish Bioware would at least let us know how long it'll be until this gets fixed. Being left in the dark is not cool.

The website hosting the ME2 save editor is probably getting hammered because of the game being realeased here in the UK today, and thousands of people realising their Shep's don't import or look wrong, looking for a solution..

Using the instructions from post #7 on this page I managed to get my original ME1 face code into ME3. All I had to do then was choose my hair and skin colour, and he looks extremely close to the original, finally!

Why on earth can't Bioware do this, but a bunch of fan-built software can? The code is clearly still in the save file. The only thing missing from my Shepard is the skin tone, although whilst I was trying to rebuild him from scratch earlier it looked as though loads of things were missing. Odd, that.

Actually, the code is not in the save file.  It is being approximated from the numeric values of the data in the save file.

I'm going to have to eat a LITTLE crow here. I finally decided to give it a shot and import my Shepard. Hearing all this made me not even want to attempt it for being disappointed. BUT...I got lucky. My Shepard from ME 1 did import.

He doesn't look exactly like he did in ME 2...but if you guys remember correctly, the import from 1 to 2 wasn't spot on either. My only thinking is that maybe I modified my Shepard a little in ME 2...(if you could even do that...I can't remember). Or it may be that my Shepard had a very basic design. Shaved head, brown eyes, gaunt face, goatee. (My avatar is the Dragon Age version of good old Roy...Roy Hawke...Roy Shepard. Shave the head and the beard, and that's him.) I think the issue with the imports, looking at this thread, is hair, eyes and noses. The other issue is, and trust me on this, the look in the create a player screen is not really what your Shepard looks like in the game. I DID have to make very subtle changes....the eyebrows were wrong for some reason and I had to thin out his face. (He looked like he put on a few pounds sitting in the N7 bunk after the trial.) But it's him. It looks and feels like my Shepard. So, I've been lucky.

BUT...seeing so many other people's imports not working at all and other imports that look nothing like the previous Shepards is still a HUGE problem. I almost thought maybe Bioware had fixed it when I imported my guy, but apparently not. Bioware has to fix the import problem, period. BUT, I'm not sure all of you are going to be completely satisfied. There are just graphic design changes. Even when they fix it, you shouldn't expect to see an exact replica of your Shepard from ME 2. I just don't think it's going to happen. I don't think it's POSSIBLE.

But this doesn't let Bioware off the hook. The Error messages are bush league, and I want to believe they are coming from certain design features from ME 1 that are simply outdated or too complex for the new engine to read.

And while I'll say I'm pleased it worked out for my canon Shepard (and I also realized that looking 90% like my Shepard is something I can live with), this doesn't change the fact that this issue is still so prevalent. And it sure as heck doesn't excuse the Day One DLC, making us play multi-player to get a happy ending (don't even get me started on that...it's so sketchy and corporate and everything I consider NON BIOWARE).

But outside the doom and gloom, I have to say, once you guys get your Shepards...there's a lot to like about this game. Here's a hoping a fix comes soon.

True this. Lots of people have reported not being able to acces it. Just try again in a little bit
