Using the instructions from post #7 on this page I managed to get my original ME1 face code into ME3. All I had to do then was choose my hair and skin colour, and he looks extremely close to the original, finally!

Why on earth can't Bioware do this, but a bunch of fan-built software can? The code is clearly still in the save file. The only thing missing from my Shepard is the skin tone, although whilst I was trying to rebuild him from scratch earlier it looked as though loads of things were missing. Odd, that.

And keep in my mind, once you get to the game and into cut scenes, the bland look and strange lighting of the Create a Player mode is gone and it looks even more like your Shepard.  At least for me it did.  Once I started playing, after all this week of stressing, I was like...."It's him!!"

In other words...this isn't as game breaking as we may have thought.  (Unless you have a Fem Shep...I'm not sure any Fem Sheps are coming out looking right at all....Image IPB)

Or you have a male Shep with art assets that are clearly not in the new character creator. Glad some people got it to work though.

So it as just as game breaking for many of us, not so much for some.

One of the things that makes Mass Effect so unique and amazing is the way in which you can create your own version of Shepard and take him/her through this gigantic adventure. And one of the greatest appeals of this is the fact that it's the same character throughout.

You take Shepard through love, loss, tragedy and triumph and actually establish an emotional bond to this extension of yourself, just like anyone can identify with a well drawn character in a novel or movie... It's for this reason that I just can't bring myself to start playing ME3 until this is fixed. I don't know who that guy is on the screen!

I marvel... 85 pages and still not a peep... yet we get to know that BW and EA have sold 890k worth. Man i wish all those people would join us here in a revolution to TAKE SHEPHERD BACK!
it's like BW are the reapers and EA is cerberus... is it coincidence that Chis's bio looks like The Illusive Man? I think not!

85 pages and still no word from BW... If someone from this once great company (and i hope you will give us reason to call you that in the future) is still reading the thread i just ask one thing, as your loyal customer (but verry pis*** off) - i don't know if EA don't allow you to give us some clue, but i beg you - tell all of us waiting is there something to wait for (are you even close to solve this), because either we're stupid and wasting our time, and nerves waiting or our patience will be rewarded...

I couldn't even put myself through the experience of recreating the faces I've made five years ago from scratch. I shelved the game untill there's a patch (and that's a tear on my gamer's heart).

So Mr Priestly is actually EA's secret CEO :) .

Hehe I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. To me she looks nothing like their artist rendering. And on that note it's a testament to how badly they borked the new models and animation.

I will say one thing.  This is the first time I really felt EA's touch and soulless marketing all over a Bioware game.  People say Dragon Age 2...but Dragon Age 2 was an experiment that still FEELS very much like Bioware.  And I like the game for being ballsy and going against preconcieved notions.  But Mass Effect is EA's money maker.  There's a disconnect feeling in this game where you feel Bioware and EA are trying to find some balance that feels forced and awkward.   It's like a corporate laywer and a hippie forced to work on a project together, placating each other the whole time, and going home saying "They suck."  And the final result feels like some bizzare compromise.  Not the best way to capture a vision for a trilogy.

That said, again.  It's too easy to just dismiss the game.  There's still a lot to like here.  There's still that Bioware storytelling emotion.  I just don't think they're a "mainstream company" and EA is trying to force them into that mold.

Just thought I'd add my voice to the many, many disgruntled fans. Some friends and family of mine (gamer and non-gamer) think I'm being a bit pathetic at not playing this game I've been banging on about for so long just because the main character's face is different, so it's good to see so many of you feeling exactly the same way.

I'm in the UK so only had my CE since Thursday so I feel for you that have waited a bit longer. It's a shame that our wait will probably be a lot longer still and to say I'm incredibly disappointed would be an understatement!

Yes.  It's good to know Shepard spent his year in solitary drowning his sorrow and shell schock in pastries.  The Cake is a Lie....

LOL They're not going to say anything until they have something to say. They already acknowledged it and said they're working on a fix. What more can they say other than that? It sucks to be made to wait, but all good things and what not:) Anyway once it's fixed this will be forgotten like the "game breaking" removal of the helmet toggle in ME2. Whoops;p

I just can't believe this happened.  I mean sure, glitches happen, every game has them, but this?

Being able to create your own Shepard from the first game and carrying them over to the next two games has been a major selling point of the trilogy since the very first game way back in 2007.

So it really does boggle the mind how a glitch that mucks up one of the primary selling points of the entire trilogy makes it past quality control.  I mean, you'd think someone would've noticed this in testing.

Ten bucks says someone at Bioware is gonna get fired over this.

Is the server just busy?  Are you using the correct male/female link?  What is the error message?

Edit:  You are trying to upload it here not the editor page right?

Here is that list, for anyone curious:

KunamiMata wrote...

Here is basically what I did.

1. Start a brand new Mass Effect 2 save file with your Mass Effect imported Shepard. It has to be brand new, because you're going to need to move, not copy it, to a USB flash drive that is formatted to work on your 360. You don't want to do this with your finished game save, so make sure it's a new one (i.e. right when you wake up from your coma, save and quit).

2. Go to Settings in your dashboard, System, Storage, Hard Drive and find your Mass Effect 2 save (not "Mass Effect 2 Importer"). Inside, you should find files for all your DLC and each of your careers. They will all be named after your Shepards and dated. Move the career you just created to your USB flash drive (don't copy, because the Xbox won't allow it).

3. Download and install this program on your PC (it's best to have this version): hotfile.com/dl/143431599/02eaea8/Modio_3.zip.html

4. Plug your USB flash drive into your PC, and using Modio, select Open from a device. Click the device you see. Mass Effect 2 should pop up in that list. Select it, then select your Shepard's save file. When the following window pops up, click the File Contents tab at the top. You should see several .xbsav extensions. Right click one of them and extract them all to your desktop (or where ever you prefer).

5. Go to this website and register on it: legion.cal24.pl/me2/

6. Once you've registered at that site and logged in, click the My saves tab at the top of the page. The specific save file that you extracted to your desktop (or where ever) that you're going to want to upload here should be named Save_0001.xbsav. Go ahead and upload that save on this site.

7. You should now have one save listed at the top of that page with a string of options following it. The second to last option on that row is Morph head. Click that option.

8. Now new options show up. You want to click Export YAML. It should download a file to your computer called morphhead.yaml. Check this file in Notepad to make sure it's all in code that you can read (only read, not necessarily understand), otherwise the file is mucked up and you have to try this step again.

9. Once you have a decent YAML file to work with, upload it in one of two places, depending on the sex of your Commander Shepard -

Female Shepards will upload heremasseffecttools.99k.org/femshep_upload.php

Male Shepards will upload heremasseffecttools.99k.org/maleshep_upload.php

Remember to add your Shepard's name, because it's how you recover the face template code.

10. Lastly, you're going to want to get your Shepard's code, again in one of two places depending on the sex -

Female Shepards codes are heremasseffecttools.99k.org/femshep_code.php

Male Shepards codes are heremasseffecttools.99k.org/maleshep_code.php

All you need to do now is enter the name you typed when you uploaded your YAML file, and bam, instant Shepard readout and code for your Shepard. There will be a little tweaking required (as pointed out by the ***** asterisks), but it shouldn't be anywhere near as bad as trying to recreate your Shepard from scratch. It'll generally be little things like hairstyle, makeup color, or eye color. You know, the easy things to remember and fix. Everything without the ***** next to them should be correct, though.

And that's pretty much how I got my Shepard back without waiting for any sort of patch. You just enter that code you get at the bottom of that page into your custom character creation back on your 360 copy of Mass Effect 3 and do the necessary tweaking and you're done.

This is a good list indeed. Thanks KunamiMata.

Congratz BW. I was always so much pride of my own Shepard.I showed her to my friends just last week. Now, with ME3 bought on day 1 and installed, i do not want to play.

How dare you "forgive" to test the character import? Tell me how?... char import was great till now, since our own story our other-self could live with us, in this trilogy... and now? stucked for days because you, again (TOR any1?) forgot to check major parts of the game.

First : LOLing at the community isn't very "paragon" of you, excuse my euphemism.

Second : Of course they won't tell us anything untill it's done (they probably won't tell us if they can't find a way either), but it's a place for us to vent our frustration and say "yep, you fudged it, it's a big deal for us, we know you're working on a patch and we hope you realise how important this is".

Third : yep I for one will forgive them if they put out a patch in time (before the end of the month would be nice), but I will not forget this as there's no way something like that could have passed QA. They knew about it before releasing the game and they took a long time (pretty much waiting for the spread to reach gamer information websites) before releasing a statement acknowledging the probem. I'm tired of the "no way we'll own that" corporate talk and very sad to see Bioware going by it (I understand, but don't like it nonetheless).
