Just used the YAML method, my Shepard turned out great! Not 100% the same, but I'm more than satisfied. Just goes to show how great and resourceful the Mass Effect community is.

Frankly, what I'd like to see (and I'm not sure how feasible this is) is for them to simply let us import the 3D model from ME/ME2, and assign the new skeletal/animation structure to it.  That's a patch that might take weeks (or even months) to deliver,

That is assuming they have a dedicated staff able to work on the problem as a full time job. EA owns Bioware and therefore dictates how Bioware spends its time/money. Bioware may propose this patch at a meeting with EA, but EA can choose whether or not to pay for or fund this extra work. They may look at the number of copies already sold and the favorable reviews and think that Bioware did a great job and shouldn't work more on it. Bioware may even be reluctant to bring this issue up to EA because after all, EA is their boss and bringing up this sort of thing would only lower EA's opinion of whoever was in charge of Mass Effect 3.

If they do not get EA support, the only other option is that Bioware would have to volunteer the time, which is something they may not exactly want to do right now. Unfortunately, they have made this game uncustomizable friendly for the modding community so a quick fix by fans may not be easy. They may have other projects they are dedicated to or are simply exhausted after releasing the game.

Of course we do not know if any of this is true, but then again, they have barely interacted with the community about this issue even thought the impact is wide and the feelings are so strong. In fact, when the demo was released and people complained about the facial importation, Bioware failed to notify the community about this issue. They knew people were concerned about it and even voiced their knowledge of the customer worries yet failed to tell us what was up. They knew if they told us this, many people would cancel their orders or not buy the game.

Maybe Bioware forgets a lot of very intellegent adults play this game. People in public relations, management, and other influential areas. Never underestimate the power of a well dedicated group. Especially a group that feels more strongly about Bioware's game than perhaps Bioware even does.  If you sell someone a product that was sold as something else, you need to correct that problem. If you don't, you risk a backlash. And to Bioware's credit I feel they have been very fair in regards to censorship of people's compaints. But then again, maybe they know that when you censor someone you only make the person madder and their voice more strong.

If you guys value your customer base you at least need to start being honest with us. The best way to gather resentment is to withold information or be less than honest with your fan base. When you don't talk to us, you risk people filling in the blanks for you, which complicates the problem rather than fixing it.

I mentioned before the inadequacy of the CC screen at depicting the true face of Shepard... to me the eyes looked too glassy and pale, and the skin too plasticky. I feel this might be fuelling the hopelessness around here about the possibility of ever getting their Shepard back, as some of the "before and after" pics on this thread look kinda rough. However, using the YAML method I was able to get, IN-GAME, a Shepard that looks pretty damn close to the original:

ME2:

ME3 CC:

ME3 IN-GAME:

To me, the ME3 version of my Shep looks like a "darker" version of my original, well within the margin of error of new graphical style from game to game. While I'm certainly not apologizing for Bioware on this ludicrous snafu, please guys, I DO think its possible to recover your Sheps.

wow your original shephard looks nothing like mine but the new one looks exactly like the one I recreated in Mass Effect 3. I think the facial shapes are way too simple in MA3. I saw 2+ npc's who looked exactly like my newly created Shepard. I wonder if they rendered less facial features in the game so they could get a better resolution for the graphics like they did for the levels in Dragon Age 2.

Really takes you out of the game.

Unless of course, the shape of your eyes, mouth or nose aren't actually you know...there anymore. Weird lighting in the CC doesn't change that.

Yeah, that's true.  That's part of the reason that I think raising awareness of this is so important.  We not only need Bioware on board for a true fix - we need EA as well. That will only happen if we make this issue as widely known as possible.

Post on outside forums.  Post on reddit and digg.  Tweet EA, Bioware, and whoever else you can think of.  If you want this fixed, let everyone you can know about it, in whatever way you can think of.

At the very least, I would think they could put the facial features and colors that they took out between ME2 and ME3 back into the character creator.  That's a solution that I couldn't imagine would take more than a few weeks, and would alieviate a lot of the problems people are having.  Maybe not my problem, because I just don't seem to be able to achieve the same basic shape, but a lot of people's.

Update: Hi Everyone.

We want to keep everyone up to date on this issue as we know how strongly many you feel about this. I will continue to update this thread as we have more information.

We have determined that faces importing incorrectly is an error with how codes were detected when transferred from Mass Effect 1 into Mass Effect 2 and then on into Mass Effect 3 or importing a Mass Effect 2 saved game with New Game +. The Mass Effect team continues to investigate fixes for these issues and they are top priority concerns for everyone here.

Again, when we have more news, we will let everyone know. Thanks again for your patience.

I don't suppose anyone knows of any to fix this for an Xbox version of the game?

And before anyone suggests Modio, I have a mac, and it doesn't seem like Modio agrees with macs.

Thanks for the update. Communication helps a lot, even if the wait sucks. Just knowing the issue wont be forgotten.

Though I'm still concerned that the fix will ultimately just give us ME3's best guess. But I'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

Good to know it's top priority. For as long as it took it's nice to get some kind of response.

IMO your response was not a reply, all day you ain't spoke a word and when you did respond it just the typical robot response

i find it more insulting than reassuring that the issue is being "looked into"

i just think bit more specifics would be nice like

why did this get over looked?
did bioware know about it before the game went gold?

ETA on when we expect the issue to be resolved

just to clarify I'm not attacking you so i shouldn't get banned for making an opinion

This exactly what I was afraid of.
The fix is going to merely change ME1 faces into face codes.
This is not going to make our Shepards look the right way. It will do the exact same thing as the workaround we have been using.

So I am returning this game and getting a refund.

I'm sorry, guys. This just isn't acceptable.
