So you're saying that the gameplay machanics are horrible because the face is wrong? The voice acting is horrible because the face is wrong? The story is horrible because the face is wrong? The graphics are horrible because the face is wrong?

Personally, I would say the gameplay, etc., are irrelevant because the face is wrong.  I bought this game to see my Shepards' stories, but the game can't give me my Shepards.  Since that's my reason for wanting to play it, if it doesn't offer that, I don't want to play it.  So unless that's fixed, it doesn't matter to me whether the gameplay is good or not.

Just to add another 2 cents. I don't want to jump through hoops to have my player look halfway like he/she used to. I think it's cause I had a few but this really is a royal screw up. It's preventing people from playing the game who have heavily invested in their characters. Bioware is starting a long journey into dire straits with their fan base if this isn't corrected.

Irrelevant : that's really well put. My retailer review is getting flame-bombed because people refuse to understand that without the ability to import my Shepard, I can't even begin the game. I'm not interested in playing the third instalment of a trilogy with a default Shep, and while the multiplayer might turn out to be great, I see it as an add-on for the shooty-bang crowd and wouldn't buy the game for that alone. The development of my unique character within a responsive storytelling experience was what drew me to the Mass Effect series, and that's the aspect which is currently not functional. I hope this isn't a harbinger of the demise of high-quality RPG's...

BioWare, how can you say "No" to this face?

Lovely!
I like the idea of a gallery of our ME2 Shep's each with a singe tear running down their face, in silent despair at being abandoned...

Ya this problem pissed me off too, but in hindsight my shepard if imported would probably look different than my current one (although the shepard VI looked like my old one), regardless I did a very good job updating my shepard so it isn't a huge complaint.

I've already prevented 12 people from buying this garbage until it works as it should have in the first place. Those 12 people are all astounded that something like this could have happened. Never again Bioware, DA2 was a warning from your fans. ME3 with its supposed poor endings, and the incredulous task it is to even start the game properly with their may be their swan song.

That's what happened to my character. (Ponytail for both the top and bottom btw)

More for reference for myself when I wake up later than anything.

My YAML file won't up to the ME2 tools page

Is the server just busy?  Are you using the correct male/female link?  What is the error message?

There's no error message, I'm clicking the upload button and nothing happens, no error message, it doesn't go to another page, nothing

After upload the file, go to

Female Shepards codes are here: masseffecttools.99k.org/femshep_code.php

Male Shepards codes are here: masseffecttools.99k.org/maleshep_code.php

and put the name used when you upload the yaml file

It's not uploading AT ALL

I just can't start the game without my Shep.

I used the workarounds listed, but even though there is a resemblance between the resultant face and my FemShep, its way too different.

In ME1/2, I loved my FemSheps pulled back hair - it gave her face a slim feel. The replacement hairstyle looks awful on my FemShep.

Infact, faces seem to look 'fatter' in ME3 than in ME1/2. WHich may be okay with BroSheps, but it looks awful on FemSheps.

Why can't they just let us import our ME2 faces into ME3, in the same way that we imported our ME1 faces into ME2. I don't need the facecodes - just exactly the same face I had in the previious games.

I'm worried that even if Bioware fix this, they'll just gives us 'ME3 versions' of our ME1/2 faces. I don't want that - I want the same face I had before.

Really saddened by this. :(

Thank you to Chris for responding. It illustrates that presence can go a long way even when little of substance is allowed to be offered.

To the people wondering "how could they miss this," a few seconds of reality-based concentration is all it takes to realize that they could not possibly have and therefore did not. The joke's on us. I definitely empathize with how difficult it is to program a modern game and balance pragmatism with ambition. I also sympathize with any employees of conscience who felt uncomfortable with the defect and deception but could not inform the public for contractual reasons. Despite sympathy for the artists & creators who poured their passion into the project, there must come a point where the consumer abuse crosses the line and becomes inexcusable. I think this qualifies.

Chris posted a few weeks why he thinks" playing default first is better"    i guess the real reason behind this was so other regions would not find out about it and cancel the game

Well put. I hope, though, your comment won't be registered as "abuse towards staff" (poor things) as a part of the new "site rules & code of conduct" because you know, we are a part of a boy scout troop and have the "privilege" to be posting on the forums of a game we payed 50+ bucks for.

You'd have to be really over-sensitive to consider that as "abuse towards staff", if was accompanied by swearing and taking swipes at his looks a la the whole Jennifer Hepler thing, that would be abuse.

BTW, if you come across any abusive comments on the ME2 Facebook page, inform Chris about them via PM here. He removed a lot of the really vile comments about FemShep on the FemShep Take Back Earth trailer when I notified him about them

Seeing as I didn't get ME3 in the mail for my weekend, just wanted to check in and see how this issue was shaping up? Hoping there's a patch before I get my game D:

Hows it been players?

Look what they did to my BELOVED Jasmine!!!

They turned one of the sexiest cat-like charming women I could imagine into a clone of that ugly uncharming **** of Ashley Williams!!

...and considering that I've sent Kaidan Alenko to the death-row just because I was jealous of his exceeding attention toward Jasmine, consider how pissed I am!!

Uuuuuhm, dude, you're one of the lucky people.

Yeah, your Shepard looks great, she looked best in ME1 from those pictures, but your ME3 Shep looks a lot better than most and from what I've seen of in-game pics the Shepards look better in-game than in the character creator

Glad to see Chris Priestly updated the status. At lease we know they're working on it.

But Chris, if you're reading this please understand that the issues we're having don't only involve errors in the importing of the face codes, but also some of the facial features/hairstyles don't even exist anymore in ME3!

Whatever fix you're all working on, please make it include these features that we've all had since ME1.

I think the new policy is really good, because it got rid of tons and tons of trolls that were on here being annoying or bullying to everyone else.   They're generally pretty good about allowing open discussion on the forums as long as it's civil and on-topic.

Are you able to go back to ME2 and load the save? I wonder if it's corrupt?

I reckon it'll be a fortnight at best, probably a month. Certification seems to suck for us Xbox players and patches take a LONG time. I feel let down and pretty betrayed - the budget, team and time that was poured into this game and the entire point of having a continuous story revolving around your own character has been utterly compromised. Shame, so much excitement for such bitter disappointment. At least keep communicating with us, that helps a bit I suppose.

My thoughts:

I started by manually punching in my Shep's face code from MA2 into MA3 and got a Shep that was just too different. So I eyeballed it and did a decent job of matching his face.

It seems to me that while there is more detail in his MA3 face, the available facial structures are not infinite and are different than MA1/MA2. So an import is never going to be perfect and I think BioWare has known this from the jump. They are using a new (or redesigned) facial system and they expected turbulence going from MA2 to MA3, particularly from those of us who built our Shep's in MA1.

Perhaps BioWare decided was more economical to put up with the blowback than develop a bridge for those of us who made decisions on Shep's look way back in MA1. Not the most customer-focused decision in my book, but it seems more plausible than it being a bug that they just missed. However, a little more honesty would be appreciated...

Anyway, my Shep has made the transition and I am happily kicking reaper ass again.

Also those of us on a Mac who would like to try the workaround, are we completely screwed?
