a very unfortunate blemish that could have easily been fixed by, say, a Cerb squad pinning Shep and his squad down with fire.

or a gunship.... :P

I couldn't agree more. But the better question is what was Kirrahe doing? Being cloaked n' all. Could have helped. Kai Lame didn't know he was in the room either so. Missed opportunity for some variables eh?

Kirrahe alive + Loyal Thane + Talk to Thane before coup = Thane fights Kai , Kirrahe comes out of cloak and assists. Kai can't fight them both at once, he retreats, leaving both Kirrahe and Thane unscathed.

There’s no reason why this did not happen, it doesn't make sense that it didn't. If you didn’t talk to Thane, have him loyal or have Kirrahe alive in your import then yeah in that scenario it makes more sense that he would die during the fight. He would then be no different than every other ME2 cameo that can be killed depending on the variables.  But there are none, not for Thane and that was just so damn LAZY.

*edit*

Also would have been neat is if there was an optional interrupt depending on your choices. You know,ANYTHING to make shep not look so incompetent during that scene.

I don't know about you... but I had to go to the bathroom, I felt Thane had it under control. Lol

But honestly I wonder the same thing, I felt like there should have been an option to save his life.

Didn't really matter.  He had terminal Kepler's syndrome or he would've died when the Reapers FINALLY took over the Citadel.

That whole scene doesn't make sense. Why would Thane, with a ranged weapon (GUN), charge someone with a CQC weapon (SWORD) ?????

I thought Thane was smarter than that. Didn't realize his sickness affected his intelligence.

It's a simple matter of Schroedinger's Kirrahe. If Thane is alive, for no particular reason, Kirrahe is never asked to guard the councillor. If Thane is dead, again for no reason, Kirrahe is asked to cloak escort the councillor around the Citadel all day, everyday.

Why? Was the councillor psychic ? Why would the councillor care about a drell he's never met and why would that influence his decision to be guarded? I have to accept Kirrahe was there because the game has given me no reason to think otherwise. There are dead STG's everywhere, why wouldn't Kirrahe NOT be there just because Thane is around somewhere else? Thane had nothing to do with the councillor , why would Thane being in hospital effect Kirrahe being asked to guard an important member of his own race? It doesn't make sense. "Just cos" isn't a reason

That's the Schroedinger's part of the problem. A completely unrelated event causes both to happen. Observing the cat is unrelated to the cat being alive or dead, but it causes it to be one or the other regardless. Without it, it is just both. Similarly, if Thane is alive, Kirrahe is not present. Utterly unrelated, an example of Schroedinger's Cat and a generally poor way of making choices relevant.

One possibility: When Thane is alive, he briefly engages a small number of Cerberus troops. They retreat into a position that Kirrahe and the STG views as threatening to the Councilor. As a result, Kirrahe is busy engaging this group of troops while Thane is fighting the space ninja.

Honestly, I tend to agree that it would have been better to make use of variables. Maybe make it tougher by, say, requring Kirrahe to sacrafice himself to keep Eve alive on Sur'Kesh. Then we'd essentially have to choose between keeping Thane alive or being able to cure the genophage.

My sentinel would have smacked him with biotics. He's heavily favored toward biotic combat with heavy pistol as backup, he could easily have gotten into close quarters combat with his tech armor and go head-to-head. Instead, he stands back with his thumb up his butt.

My infiltrator. Well. She can wield a frigging Widow sniper rifle, I am sure she can handle herself when the time comes. Tactical cloak + headshot, and idiot space ninja is nothing but a smear across the floor.

I am sure that is why we can't stop him. If we tried, he'd be dead in an instant.

I thought the same thing, what I would give to shoot Kei Leng during that fight,

I felt like I let Thane die.

That epic battle was the only thing that me like Kai Leng. Without that ninja fight Leng feels somewhat diminished as a threat.

Shep and friends were gaurding the councillor with "Holly ****!" looks on their faces.

Shepard was "polishing his gun"
Hee-hee
Appalling scene, tbh, just didn't make any goddamn sense. Almost as bad as the fight on Thessia, where the gunship can use rockets that avoid Kai's plot armor but chooses to do so only after the bastard fails to kill you

Damn...however many months later...and people are still overthinking this scene.

The fact is...the fight scene wasn't that long to begin with...parts were slowed down.
