Ok I know there are a few posts about this already, but I need a little help.
First my face that i spent alot of time creating in ME1 and played through 2 with didn't import, it went back to default.  Anyone know a workaround?
And what exactly is a Face Code and how do i get it?

Go to your Mass Effect 2 game, start it up and go to "Squad". At the top of the screen of your Shep, you'll see a string of code. Copy it all including the "." In ME3 when you import, go to "Custom Appearance" At the bottom, you'll see the "Code" in red. Select it and adjust the code to the one you copied. Be warned, I tried it and it didn't work for nothing. My Shep wasn't "My Shep".

i think the code is only for pc players. im on xbox and there is no code. it would be nice to see some sort of response from bioware but they are nowhere to be found unless their locking down forums. shameful on all accounts.

The "face code" is visible in Mass Effect 2 only if the character's face was created (or reconstructed) in Mass Effect 2. Characters imported from Mass Effect 2 but with the face created in Mass Effect 1 will have no face code.

No everyone is having the problem. My code will not copy over and because of that all the items I had from ME 2 will not copy over too. What is going on here? I paid a lot of money for this whole system and now its flaud. I think bioware needs to make a patch for everyone's save files and let us copy our faces over. This is ridiculous.

There is a long and complicated process to getting your ME1 character's face code (the thread with the 9 step guide to doing it is buried somewhere in these forums) that I went through to be able to get a face code for my character...however, even with the face code, your character looks very different from what he looked like in ME1 and ME2 (in fact, even after you input the face code, you'll be forced to do some major changes to ur ME3 character to get him right, I actually went into ME2 and took pictures of my Shepard's face to get him right in the ME3 character creator), because the character creator options have changed since then. Most notably are missing hairstyles that were in ME1, but not in 2 or 3, the absence of which make your charecter look completely different. I'm guessing the only way your character would look like he did back in ME2 and 1 would be if the import feature actually worked and you could import the face directly, instead of forcing you to recreate it by using the much different ME3 character creation options (and that is...granted that you can even find that thread I mentioned and fish your face code out, if not...good luck trying to get all the details right).
