I realise that a lot of the missions are pretty straight forward in execution, particularly side quests, but I'm having some difficulty in working out what I was doing when I resume play after a break. My issue with ME3 is not one of the common complaints about DLC, plot, the apelike-run of FemShep, Origin, or anything major, but simply the Journal (Mission Log).
- ME2 had quests which expanded into the stages, clearly showing which step you were on and which were done. This was great if you've spent the last couple of hours or more doing something else such as playing multiplayer or taking a break and wanted a quick recap of what you were doing.
- However, ME3 appears to have taken a backwards step in that it gives a fairly general description of the mission and that's about it. Yes, this occasionally updates, but otherwise it's so vague that if you take a break, you'll never remember where you're going for it. For example, "A Salarian on the Citadel needs new heating unit stabilizers. Find them and bring them to him in the Presidium Commons". I can't remember the conversation leading up to that anymore, so now I'm left with a very vague account of what "A Salarian" wants and I have to "Find them".
I'm loving the game so far, but this journal seems so stunted that it's actually frustrating me a bit, having just replayed ME2. Especially because it's such a simple thing to get wrong when you've already got the framework from the previous game.
- tl;dr : The Journal (mission log) is much worse in ME3 and it's giving me real issues in remembering what I'm doing after a break. Especially as I don't know what stage I'm at, whereas I did in ME2.
