Sorry I'm posting this here; as I can't post in the tech support forum (yeah that's silly). I can't post in the Origin tech support forum either.

Anyhow, I installed Origin, rebooted PC, popped in retail version of ME3 disc 1, and hit setup.

It launched Origin, signed in, etc.

Got a pop up for ME3, hit "INSTALL"

Now I'm sitting at the Origin window with a second pop up labeled "Origin - Activate Mass Effect 3". It's blank. The only thing I can do is close it (no refresh option or anything of the sort).

Screenie of my problem >> http://tinypic.com/r/juxv21/5

Things I've tried to do already:

01. Run Origin as admin. Rebooted.
02. Grant Origin trusted status in firewall.
03. Disable firewall/AV software. Rebooted.
04. Spam F5 on the blank Activate window.
05. Update to the pre-release version of Origin (didn't seem to update anything though). Rebooted.
06. Spend 2 hours browsing BSN and Origin tech support forums for anything similar.
07. Google it repeatedly hoping something new will show up.
--EDIT--
08. Confirmed Windows clock was set to sync with time.windows.com. Rebooted.
09. Activated and deactivated Automatic Root Certificate Updates. Rebooting 3 times.
10. Input the code manually via the "Redeem Product Code" option in Origin. Also displays as blank window.
11. Deleted the pref files from C:\\ProgramData\\Electronic Arts dir. Rebooted.
12. Enabled cookies and scripting for origin.com and associated domains in default web browser (FF 10.0.2).
13. Ran Origin in compatability mode (XPsp3, Vista/SP1/SP2). Rebooted.
14. Reinstalled Origin. Rebooted.

Steps I'm NOT going to take:

01. Reinstall win7. This is a fresh install roughly two months old.

At this point, I'm assuming it has something to do with the underlying web code that Origin uses; some sort of certificate problem or something to that effect.

FWIW I'm running Win7 Pro x64, fully updated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as would a mod moving this to the correct forum, as I can't seem to register/activate the game I just bought.

Thanks!

Update: The only other issues I've read about regarding this problem have to do with the computer time and security certificates.

I've verified that my clock is set to sync with time.windows.com. I'll reboot for the 4th time and try again.

EDIT: Still not working.

Update2: Tried activating Automatic Root Certifcate Updates. Didn't work. Tried deactivating Automatic Root Certificate Updates. Still no joy.

DISCLAIMER: DO NOT TRY THIS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED: Only leaving it here for context.

I was able to input the product code manually at https://activate.ea....yentitlement.do

I then logged into Origin and ME3 was enabled so I can finally start installing. No thanks for the three hour run-around though.

You, good sir have just made my day. I was halfway through the same process of trying in vain to solve this issue. Thank you so much for the link, worked like a charm.

Well I finally got the game installed, but now it's cycling through an Invalid Cerberus Login... and I have to give it the three finger salute to get out. I gave up and am on hold with customer support so they can sort out this cluster-you-know-what.

Seriously, this is way too much effort. Last EA game I buy, period. Bioware games are the only EA games I have purchased in recent times, and even if ME3 is absolutely epic it simply isn't worth the trouble.

It took me three hours just to BEGIN the installation process. Another 30 minutes to find out that it doesn't work. 30 minutes on hold now, and almost certainly a long way to go until I can talk to someone who probably won't be able to resolve my problem.

Yup, in the same boat. "Invalid Cerberus Code"

Totally agree with you, this has been far more complicated than it needed to be.

jsmile39 send me a message when you get this resolved with CS. I'll move this post to the tech support board when you do so other people having the same problem can hopefully see the fix easier.

Will do, thanks. I've talked to a tech rep who's currently talking to other people. Fingers crossed.

UPDATE:

Problem is probably associated with an old ME2 install on different hard drive.

Long story short, I had ME2 and winXP installed on a mechanical drive (in different partitions). I wiped the XP partition when I upgraded to an SSD and win7, the partition with ME2 stayed however. I reinstalled ME2 on the SSD, but I had to manually delete the ME2 install on the old drive as there was no uninstall option (it was thinking that it wasn't installed, yet another component would still say 'yeah it's over here' essentially).

Somehow there are lingering registry entries or something that's causing ME3 to check for a (now defunct) cerberus code.

I'll be uninstalling ME2 and ME3, cleaning registry (although I can't for the life of me, figure out how a registry entry would migrate from a wiped partition to my current SSD), and reinstalling ME2/ME3.

Will update again in a few hours once I finish uninstall/reinstalls.

CCleaner found this bad registry entry ||  F: is my old mechanical game partition:

Missing MUI Reference    F:\\Game\\Mass Effect 2\\MassEffect2Launcher.exe    HKCU\\Software\\classes\\Local Settings\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Shell\\MuiCache

I suspect the bad registry entry was created when I reinstalled ME2 on the SSD. Somehow it found out that ME2 had, at some point, been installed on F: and stuck the registry entry in there.

I've uninstalled both ME2 & 3, deleted the errant registry entry, and I'm reinstalling ME3 atm. I'm in the sticks on a marginal DSL line. It'll take me about 30 min to download the day one patch (again). We'll see.

I was told the same thing, probably from your case jsmile39 :P
I unsinstalled both and ran a registry cleaner and wouldn't you know it, an error was found with an old ME2 entry and I deleted it.

I'm now reinstalling Mass Effect 3 and hoping it works now.

Oh, here is a screenshot of the Cerberus code error from ME3, even the tech support guy was surprised that you could get it since it was an ME2 thing.

Posted Image

UPDATE: No change, same error. Sad panda.

Makes me yearn for the days when copy protection consisted of a spinning decoder wheel.

My patch will be done in about 10 minutes, will let you know.

Or typing in the third word of the fifth paragraph on page 12 of the manual.

Haha yeah. Just rebooted, still getting cerberus code error also. Really not looking forward to a win7 reinstall. Only recently upgraded from winXP and it took me ages to get win7 looking and functioning the way I like it.

Going to try installing ME2 again, in the off chance that a miracle will occur. Although I kinda get the feeling that we've fubar'd our Origin server-side-evil-overlord data now.

Just for giggles, I'll input my ME3 product code as the cerberus ME2 code. Wouldn't that be a riot if it worked.

Ah nevermind, the cerberus code is 16 digits whereas the ME3 code is 20.

That's what I'm starting to think as well. The kicker is the "redeem product code" page is displaying for me now when previously it was blank just like the registration window was.

I've Got it! Well technically I got it from this thread: http://forum.ea.com/...st/8240612.page that I had also posted in.

It's so simple, just put your registration code in the 'redeem product code' under the origins options menu (the little cog wheel).

Now it's downloading all my collectors edition stuff, I should have gone to bed hours ago (got work tonight) but damnit I'm going to se this through to the bitter end :pinched:

Wow, mine is also. I literally left it up for 30 minutes while browsing the origin forums for possible solutions (50+ page battlefield 3 threads with similar blank window problems).

If the certificate/authentication server was simply overloaded, there should have been a heck of a lot more outcry on BSN. Crazy that it was working for almost everyone else.

Thanks! Great that the secondary problem was resolved, unfortunately for people who get the blank activation/product code pages, you're still SoL.

If you're experiencing blank Origin windows, try back in a few hours. It certainly wasn't a local internet problem for me, everything else (including Origin/EA/BSN domains) was working fine.

Almost like a certificate server is randomly hating. Just so odd that it would go hours on end of being unresponsive (to only a very small group), and then have a sudden change of heart.

On the plus side, I gave my registry a much needed cleaning. Now I have to wait a half hour for From Ashes to install.

Also the soundtrack is 742mb? Dang.

I had this problem too, with the blank box. Finally on a whim fired up the laptop, installed Origin...and it worked. No blank box. The Internet Settings for IE are the same on both rigs. Both W7 64 bit SP1, both actually use Firefox as default browser, same AV/Anti-malware/etc. Almost identical in operating environment and obviously on the same network.

So if you're still having issues and all else fails until they get this figured out, try another PC if you have one, or see if a friend will let you install it long enough to attempt it on theirs. :P Once you get it registered to Origin you can install it on whatever you're wanting to play it on with no problems. Just make sure you get everything registered first. Game, From the Ashes if applicable, etc or you will have to go back to said friend's house. :P

Perhaps someone needs to pass along to EA that they might consider a browser based way for us to activate our games for when things like this happen? One that works with/within Origin, unlike that entitlement link earlier, as you still run into issues inside Origin itself. It's terribly inconvenient, especially when there are many people already set against Origin and whatnot.

Well I said I would come back and it looks like others have confirmed it. The game works great after verifying it on another pc. The only annoying thing was I had to do the same with the DLC just as Maera Imrov mentioned. So after registering the game register the DLC too and then its good.

I don't know if this will work for other people but it worked for me, uninstall origin and start the installation for Mass Effect 3 and it will prompt you to install origin before installing mass effect and let origin install using the game. It resolved the blank screens for me.
