In ME2 I really had a hard time playing a Vanguard in Insanity. The fact that every enemy had armor/shields rendered my biotics useless, charging would result to deathalong with the extremely low health/barriers made the game frustrating. So are Vanguards a viable option for playing Insanity in ME3 or should I switch to Sentinel?

Vanguards were viable in ME 2 and they are viable in ME 3.

Vanguards never sucked in insanity, in fact you can clear levels faster than any other class with them.....

Vanguards were arguably the most powerful class on Insanity. Not the safest, but you could definitely get the quickest clears on missions assuming you knew what was ahead of you.

Vanguards never sucked on Insanity.

To answer your question though, go for sentinel. If you didn't like the vanguard in ME2, you might not like it now. I recommend giving the vg another chance in the future though. The new powers and melee mechanics have really changed the class and made it more powerful.

Vanguards were Tier 1 in ME2 IMO.
Then again once you play at least 30 playthroughs of ME2 everything seems to be Tier 1. :?

Vanguards are even more powerful in ME3 than they were in ME2. Charge, Nova and even shockwave do plenty damage..

Shockwave wasn't all that great in ME2, but in ME3, it's a killer :D

I personally think the vanguard is pretty much GOD in ME3... if a bit mindless.

The Vanguard playstyle always intrigued me that's why I chose it for ME1/2. The main problem was the extremely low health and barriers, enemies like geth hunters that come after you could kill you with two shots easily. I know the new melee system plus the new powers (Nova) will certainly buff Vanguards but I also hope they get some increase to health/barriers. I also hope shotguns are not a joke this time... Maybe I'll stick with Vanguard after all and if it becomes unplayable i'll restart with a sentinel

Vannguards used to be good in ME2, required skill, not with Nova, a Vanguard is just a spammer.

Played Vangaurd for my first and only Insanity play though on ME2. Definitely brought the gameplay to a whole new level of intensity.

... you've got to be trolling. Geth Hunters, heck, Harbinger's incarnations themselves, were all one-shots for my Vanguard. Watch some YouTube videos... there's got to be something off with what you were doing, if you're being serious.

If you didn't notice I was talking about the Vanguard's damage resistance not the damage output... Also I never purchased the overpowered weapon/armor packs so maybe that's why Insanity wasn't a cakewalk for me

Vanguards don't suck, people who are bad at them, are just bad.

Vanguard was amazing in ME2 insanity, when you could play it right. In ME3 with nova, it'll be cheap as hell.

I tried playing a vanguard on hardcore in ME2 and thought it sucked. Biotic Charge might as well have been called Biotic Suicide, and pull/throw were useless

I'll have to look up these videos of them supposedly being amazing..

Vanguards didn't suck in ME2. Hell played right they could dominate.

Then add in the fact that you can glitch enemy spawns to where you don't even have to fight them, and the vanguard is god.

For example, did you know if you get close to base doors during N7 missions in ME2, the doors will close despawning enemies within them, and preventing future spawns?

I murdered Insanity with Vanguard. Cleared areas faster than any other jobs. Where did this myth they were bad on Insanity start? I'm not going to say it's the easiest most user friendly job to play on Insanity. But once you figure out how to play it right, it's absolutely ridiculous.

With tali's perk (cant remember what it was called) I was able to burn through insanity quite nicely with my vanguard.

^ Energy Drain?

But yeah, as long as you play the character correctly (albeit your way - not someone else - though the advice probably may not hurt), you be okay.

I've heard how much the Sentinel got "nerfed," but that's what I've been since ME - I may change character; however, I'm not ditching that character just because.

-Year that  :D.

Since the only enemies that really want to close on you are the Pyros and YMIR mechs you can usually just hide behind cover and take it easy whilst you wait for the cooldowns between castings.

No zerg attacks, no rustmonsters in hordes. It wasnt bad for me at least.
