So...do Vanguards still suck in Insanity?

To answer your question though, go for sentinel. If you didn't like the vanguard in ME2, you might not like it now. I recommend giving the vg another chance in the future though. The new powers and melee mechanics have really changed the class and made it more powerful.

Then again once you play at least 30 playthroughs of ME2 everything seems to be Tier 1.

Shockwave wasn't all that great in ME2, but in ME3, it's a killer

... you've got to be trolling. Geth Hunters, heck, Harbinger's incarnations themselves, were all one-shots for my Vanguard. Watch some YouTube videos... there's got to be something off with what you were doing, if you're being serious.IC3_C0LD_ZERO wrote...
The Vanguard playstyle always intrigued me that's why I chose it for ME1/2. The main problem was the extremely low health and barriers, enemies like geth hunters that come after you could kill you with two shots easily. I know the new melee system plus the new powers (Nova) will certainly buff Vanguards but I also hope they get some increase to health/barriers. I also hope shotguns are not a joke this time... Maybe I'll stick with Vanguard after all and if it becomes unplayable i'll restart with a sentinel

If you didn't notice I was talking about the Vanguard's damage resistance not the damage output... Also I never purchased the overpowered weapon/armor packs so maybe that's why Insanity wasn't a cakewalk for me

Then add in the fact that you can glitch enemy spawns to where you don't even have to fight them, and the vanguard is god.
For example, did you know if you get close to base doors during N7 missions in ME2, the doors will close despawning enemies within them, and preventing future spawns?

But yeah, as long as you play the character correctly (albeit your way - not someone else - though the advice probably may not hurt), you be okay.
I've heard how much the Sentinel got "nerfed," but that's what I've been since ME - I may change character; however, I'm not ditching that character just because.

-Year that
Since the only enemies that really want to close on you are the Pyros and YMIR mechs you can usually just hide behind cover and take it easy whilst you wait for the cooldowns between castings.
No zerg attacks, no rustmonsters in hordes. It wasnt bad for me at least.
