Its ME2 all over again. Since this was a new game and not just a port of an existing game, I thought this wouldn't happen. I guess even the "Most Anticipated Game of 2012" can have problems.

im having this freeze issue in the citadel docks as well :/
guess my luck ran out.
i ran mass effect 2 pre-patch perfectly. then the patch came out & frame/audio-sync issues started happening, i hope whatever patch they do for me3 won't do the same thing.

I can't get to the docks any way I go. I've tried Normandy and every other zone on the map there. It's entirely too frustrating as I have quests there to complete. They need to fix this ASAP as it makes the game very poor.

I have no problems with the docks at all. *knock on wood*

I tried the ps button trick and it worked. Before that I couldn't get to the docks from anywhere on the Citadel.

I've heard if you go to straight to the docks from the normandy there's no problem. Mildly inconvenient I guess but hardly game breaking.

Same problem here.
I was in the Presidium Commons zone and I was trying to travel to the Docks Holding Area zone.
Loading screen then got black screen. (PS3 light stop flickering) I still had music btw.
clicking on the PS3 button didn't work, only thing what worked was restart PS3 by holding the on/of button for a few seconds.

I read on another forum that if you hit the PS button as soon as the loading screen appears and keep the XMB up until the black screen appears then exiting the XMB should make the docks: holding area load.
It did the trick for me atleast
I started doing this every time I switch floors on the Citadel and I didn't get a single freeze since then. Maybe it does really work...

I'm counting down the times, before my next unexpected restart will cause my hard disk drive on my ps3 to stop booting.
So Bioware, can I send you the bill?

I'm having the exact same issues. First freeze was on Mars during a cutscene, then it froze 4 separate times throughout the game during the loading process (mainly on the Citadel) and now froze while just standing in the med bay.
Even Skyrim didn't run this bad on my PS3. With it I just had frame rate issues. Hopefully, BioWare can get it worked out soon. It's keeping me from being able to relax because I know a hard reboot could only be moments away.
When the game successfully loads an area, I feel like I just got a super rare gold item in a recruit pack. The loading screens are more intense than the combat on the PS3.

I'm also having the same problem. Only freeze I've had so far is trying to get to the refugee camp. Has happened every time so far.
Very annoying.

I've hit three freezes in a row trying to access the refugee camps from the commons.

Yes, Tried every save game on mine and it doesn't seem to be the side missions. Even when I go to the normandy docks first then to the Dock Holdings it still randomly does not load.

Can't seem to do an awful lot in the Dock Holding due to the constant freezes, let alone get there. Also experiencing some frame rate issues throughout the game, particularly on the Citadel.
Am I the first to have trouble with the armor customization menu? It takes roughly 20 seconds or longer for armor to appear on my avatar when selecting different armor pieces. That's not cool.
My point being, Bioware, you truly have created a masterpiece of a game in my eyes. These freezing issues etc., however, don't contribute to the amounts of fun I'm having with this otherwise immersive gaming experience, like at all. Please fix it, for us?

I just had this issue three times in a row, Contacted EA support and they stated that Bioware needed to put out a patch for it. They never stated that Bioware was aware of the issue or that they were already working on it.

Happened to me too, 3 times. Can't go to the holding area, black screen with sound.

Well the freeze was usually happening using elevator to Dock Holding Area (refugee camp) and the temporary solution was to go from Normandy to Dock Holding Area directly, then use elevator to get to other spots.
Unfortunately I am having an issue getting from other places with elevator transport. Just froze up going from Embassies to Purgatory. Just want to finish the game at this point. I'd be really happy to see some response on Bioware's part to show they are working on a fix. This is a serious issue since you have to spend so much time going back and forth to the Citadel. Usually you end up doing a lot of traveling on the Citadel as well.

My first time going to Citadel the game ran great. The second time I went to the Citadel the frame rate was terrible. When I got on the elevator and went to Presidium Commons the frame rate dropped all of a sudden,it was the worst frame rate drop I've ever seen in a game.
The only time the frame rate problems stopped is when I went to have a conversation with someone but when I finished talking to them the problem starts back up again. It was like that for the rest of my visit at the Citadel, every floor.I just knew a freeze was coming but It never happen. My guess is maybe because I have the download version but still, things like this is unacceptable

is there a certain point in the game in which the refugee camp will become an option to travel to from the normandy? thus far, i have every other location available on the citadel EXCEPT that one when the woman asks me where i want to go.

Having similar issues. It only happens during the loading section to new areas for me. I go into the elevator, select a new location and every now and again the loading screen will go black and nothing else happens after that I can't access the XMB or anything and forced to shut it down manually.
A temporary "fix" I suppose is just to save everytime before taking the elevator to a new location.

I urge people to try the PS button workaround. Just go on the elevator, select your destination and once the loading screen appears immediately press the PS button on your controller, which will take you to your XMB menu. Wait until the first scene changes (the screen will go black for a split second), then press it again and wait for the load to finish.
I've been doing this for a while and I haven't encountered a crash since. Would be cool to get confirmation if this really is working for more people.

The PS button workaround works for me, except I leave the XMB open until the screen goes black and stays black, then I close the XMB and the game fades back up in the elevator.
