I even made a New Game thinking my data was corrupted, just to get the black screen of death. Cold as dark space. I spend a lot of time banging my head over this and that's not what the ME3 experience should be like. I get it when I'm collecting Merc. groups, and I pray BioWare addresses this issue before I start seeing it again. People shouldn't have to find loopholes to play a game the spent upwards of $100 to play. I want free DLC and a fix. Thank you all for sharing your solutions because my only night off would have just been in vain.

I dunno about free DLC, but a patch that fixes this would be nice. Then again, atm there are about two or three patches being required of BioWare, and each have to go through a pretty long process of bureaucracy (if being made at all) so I wouldn't expect anything soon.

I doubt Bioware will pull a Bethesda and keep us waiting too long, especially as Patch 1.02 is already available for the digital version of ME3.  However whether it fixes the Citadel issue is anyone's guess; does anyone have the digital PS3 version and not have the freezing issue?

I was having this problem too.
I managed to fix mine but I don't know if it's permanent yet but I've noticed that promoting or playing mp and then going straight to SP creates these problems at least in my case it did..
after i got the black screen while loading the citadel I waited for 10 mins because the frames was very choppy so i assumed it was also disrupting my load time. Still black so I restarted my PS3
After I loaded up mass effect 3 I went to sp this time and everything was loading normally again... and I received a private message in terminal talking about the new assest promotion thing.. but i didn't see that beforehand

I also while in the game went to save section and in my list i deleted everything and made a brand new save (so i don't lose any progress and just make a fresh new save instead of the whole "11 saves") i don't know if this also contributed in fixing it..

Idk if you guys played mp first for awhile then went straight to SP or went straight to SP after running the game or if its the promotion thingy thats confusing the game or something entirely else and I am just hoping I can help out some way...

Just adding my name to the list of citadel black screen sufferers, mainly trying to get to the docks but has also happened on other floors.

I think the loading screens stream off the BR as there is no HDD activity but I doubt we all have bad discs.

If you get this freeze, rather than hard resetting your PS3, just eject the BR and the system will beep 3 times and soft reset.

It's too bad there are too many posts all relating to this same exact thread. I believe this was the first one I saw. Wish they were all directed in this direction as this is in my opinion one of the top three issues for the PS3. I haven't had problems with anything else but the use of the elevator at the Citadel (thus I nicknamed it the !@#$adel).

I hope this is resolved in the next patch so I can attempt a second playthrough without worrying about having to use the elevator. The Citadel isn't the center of just the galaxy, it's the center of ME3. I didn't finish all my side missions because of this glitch so I got the low EMS ending.

For those of you who haven't experienced it yet, I also got the black-screen freeze going from Purgatory to Embassies too. The elevator is messed up!

Ran into this glitch during my second annoying playthru... it's 100% now and I just have to avoid the citadel. ME2 character import, Tali as potential LI, but havent met her yet. If that helps...

IMPOSSIBLE for me to get to the holding area, as is the case with several people.. going to wait for this game to be patched effectively before i start the campaign again, so i can enjoy the story without worrying in the back of my mind about the next impending bug..

I had this problem too. After trial and frustration, I realize that it seem the only way to get to the dock holding area is to go to the docks, then go to the holding area from there.

This post is 10 days old already? Wow. Hopefully we'll see a response soon. There's probably 20 threads on this subject or more. All the same issue. Freeze/Black Screen.

I can't play the game till this is fixed. Unless there is a way to avoid the Citadel completely till the end. I don't really want to do that even if it's possible.

Just got finished with Elder Scrolls: Skyrim freeze issue, took 3 months to fix. Now ME3. What is going on with PS3 games lately?

well its not PS3 games lately, its companies like Bioware and Bethesda that puts a bad name to the PS3 with their pathetic and lazy programming. When issues arises they turn around blame it on the PS3 limitation when its been know for how long now? But yet, you don't see other companies having this much issues with their games X_X.

This sums it up exactly; Bethesda really tried the hardware line but if that was true why has the last patch fixed the lag completely?  If developers seriously doubted the hardware being at fault they wouldn't release the game on a certain platform in the first place.  With the Skyrim debacle Bethesda has doubtless lost many day one buyers of their next release as they simply cannot be trusted.  Bioware need to get their sh*t together or they will be going the same route and posting some "this is how patching works" guide which doesn't actually acknowledge the precise faults isn't going to help matters.  If my car breaks down I know it is broken but I don't need to be told the repair process just when and if it is going to be fixed...

Yeah, I worded that wrongly.  I shouldn't have asked "What's going on with PS3 games lately?"  I should have asked, "What's going on with the gaming companies having problems with releasing games on PS3 lately?"  I got to play ME3 once for a full playthrough.  I didn't do a lot of side missions because the Citadel is a nightmare.  Game freezes all the time there.  At first it was the Dock: Holding Area and now it's any use of the elevator.  No stairwells to use to get around it.

Anyone else not able to play ME3 on PS3 besides me?  Had I known this would happen I would have gotten the PC copy.

Just happened to me twice on my new game plus, looks like I'm taking a break. I don't appreciate being asked to game test for free.

Hopefully tomorrow there might be some kind of news about this. Since we've pretty much narrowed down what and where the problem is, maybe that will cut the process time down a bit.

You just have to keep trying. Go back on the Normady then choose a level that starts you in an elevator (any that isn't level Q1). Then choose Q2. It'll work after a while. And then, everytime you need to go back, always choose to be taken there directly from the Normady and it has always worked for me.

The Normandy to the floor on the Citadel you want works at first.  It doesn't anymore.  I get freezes at the Citadel all the time now.  I won't play till this is fixed.  I worry that I'll destroy my PS3.  I'll wait for their patch.

Luckily I got through one playthrough going to the Citadel as few times as I could, but I suffered not being able to do my side missions and ended up with low EMS in the end.

Have you guys out of curiosity sent an email or had a chat with an ea rep. If not you should i work for a company that only does something about an issue if enough people are reporting the issue. I kid you not. There not going to be able to do anything for you right then and their but if enough people report it no doubt ut will get escalated.

I'm quite freaked out that they haven't fixed this. I've done two full playthroughs and it's crashed on the Citadel at the same parts every single time. Not only that, but when it crashes, it requires a complete console restart. The PS3 also crashes - it gives a triple beep 8 seconds after you press the power button to turn it off (because the controller doesn't do anything).

I largely feel that this section of the site is ignored too for some reason. The Citadel isn't the only place it happens, but it's certainly the most frequent. And there's a certain point where you just can't get to the Docking Bay if you're trying to use the elevator. At least with the rest, a restart seems to make the game work again.

Something really needs to be done about this. The game is broken in a lot of ways. Yes, it's playable but it's tough not to feel like PS3 users have been given a raw deal when the 360 version runs perfectly. Load times are ridiculous (why isn't there an install option? that's not a difficult thing to implement) framerate on occasion drops to zero (off the top of my head, on the Crew deck if you head towards the elevator from Liara's cabin - freezes for a couple of seconds almost every single time).

These things aren't tough to fix. How can it be that all this DLC has been released and not a simple patch?

I just don't understand how PS3 players can go from getting arguably the best version of ME2 to the worst version of ME3. It's not like we have the comfort of the entire trilogy to cushion the blow either.

Sadface.

A little update.
I finally installed Leviathan and it seems to have fixed this issue:blink:.
Tested on different saves, that before, with the latest patch and all free DLC, would crash the console.

It would be great if someone else could verify this.

I don't mind stealth patches *IF* it is *FREE*, but to be forced to actually *PAY* for a fix to a six months old game breaking bug is really something else.<_<

Hello guys. I'm new into this part of the forum but as a PS3 owner I would like to say how sad I've felt at reading the various topics in here regarding framerate and stability issues with ME3 on this console. Now I've completed this game on my Dell XPS laptop 4 times now and I know how smooth and stable the pc version has played for me, so I find it unacceptable that your version is beset with so many problems that don't appear to getting fixed any time soon. I saw ME3 for the PS3 in the bargain bucket yesterday so I decided to grab hold of it to see for myself what it plays like. I'll be "installing" it later and will post back after I've had a go on it. As a paying customer to a top games studio I am "expecting" a nice smooth gameplay experience because as I said, the pc version is silky smooth. PS3 players deserve the same experience as xbox and pc because you paid the same for your game and your money is the same as everyone else's. However based on what I've read on these forums I guess it'll be a played it, trade it job next week! The saddest part of this whole thing though is that if the wider fanbase community could somehow acquire access to the code base for this game they'd probably get all these things fixed up in pretty rapid order. You only need to look at the Linux or MAME communities to see there's a wealth of freelance programming talent out there.
