So I love the dog, and I hate not taking him with me, but it means missing out on a lot of banter and dialogue. I'd like to add him as a 5th party member, since I saw a console command to do that. Has anyone tried it (or with any other npcs)? Did it work or break the game? I get a loyal hound, I shouldn't have to leave him at camp because I need a balanced party! :)

This is my 3rd playthrough, so I don't mind things being a little different from how BioWare intended. If it's too easy, I might bump the difficulty up.

oh, I have to go look for that. Dog should so have his own special place in the party! It just doesn't fit the story that I would save his life then leave him in camp all the time!

I don't think he actually meant balanced in terms of just combat utility, I think he meant that he was missing out on banter and parts of conversations.

Yeah, I know, I actually played through already with the dog as one of my tanks. Overwhelm rips almost anyone to shreds. I just love having him in the party, but it means I have to give someone else up. I already figured I'd have to increase the difficulty to compensate.

So has anyone tried the console to add a 5th party member? I'll do it myself now, but I know the devs have mentioned that the console can break the game far into the future from when you used it.

Maybe if the main character could have a plot-specific talent to summon dog in combat like a ranger pet ?...

Dog's got dialog too. He gets Morrigan to give him a cookie.

yeah dog has some good banter

there's one where the dog eats all of morrigan's herbs, and then begs for more. and during that banter it seems like morrigan can actually understand (as in speaking dog language) dog.

and I was surprised at how many other banters were with the dog.

I'm tempted to look over the banter scripts and see if they can be updated to handle rotating banter with 5 party members... well that and figuring out how to add dog
