Update: If anyone is having this problem...

I was having the exact same problem. Here's the solution I found after sifting through these forums.

You
have to cancel the download and erase all the stuff you have downloaded
already. Then close and completely shut down origin, make sure that the
task manager does not list origin.exe in the process manager list.
Eject the disc and then re-insert the disc. It should prompt you to log
into Origin, just follow the commands and it will start to install off
the disc and not slowly download it off of origin.

Hopefully this helps you out.

Disk goes in, the ONLY button I see is 'Install Origin'.  Feels kinda DERP, especially since I have ORIGIN installed.  Nothing else happens with the disk.  I enter my product key to ORIGIN which prompts me to download the game, wasting MANY GIGS of my monthly bandwidth.

Is there no other way to install the game?

Browse to your DVD, check if you can manually copy the files to Origin Games/Mass Effect 3 that way you have to download only the patch.

I'll try that but... doesn't it seem really... silly, to anyone else that we would have to resort to that?

I know it seems like origin is downloading the game instead of ripping it from the disk you got but it in actuality is. You'll notice the disk drive spinning as well as the request to switch disks for continued installation. It just requires you install origin before starting the installation process. At least that's what I saw.

It's quite certainly downloading :/ and not very fast either.

Buy 2 DVD's... be forced to download the game anyway....

Off to a brilliant start... <_<

Thanks mate - already downloaded and installed though :/ I'll take this and post in in the first post for anyone else who might have this problem.
