 So does anyone know if the ONLY way to broker peace between the two is to have destroyed the heretic geth in ME2. If I didnt, and rewote them, am I just outta luck.

I don't think so... I think you need to do a few of actions that can potentially lead to peace; you need at least 5 points, and destroying the heretics gains you 2

I have not gotten to this point yet but I've read there are some missions you can do to make up the points you lost for rewriting the heretics.

I destroyed them but now I'm wondering if keeping them would have added some war assets.
