I liked it, but I think I get why it was not included. It would be nice to have it added in as an option that can be turned on and off. You could play different runs of the game with it on or off based on your mood.

But it used to be an OPTION in ME1 and ME2. Right now I'm using a mod to simulate FG (not perfect but still better than nothing)

Nice to have as an option.

I did playthroughs of ME1 and ME2 each with it on, then off, and while it didn't make a huge deal to me, I was slightly disappointed that it wasn't there at all in ME3.

I mentally justified it by pretending the film grain was like a flashback effect, like ME1 was grainier because it was longer ago, ME2 was more recent and then ME3 has no film grain because it's like in the present happening now.
Now that i've typed it out and read it myself, it's actually the dumbest thing ever >_> I want my film grain back.

I hated the look of it.
but no reason to take away an option that was a simple effect. A simple effect that some enjoy.
However there is a middle ground I would love to see added. no grain during gameplay but have it on during cut scenes.

I just got an ambiguous answer to that question via twitter.
@geekjosh - "Any plans on adding the 'Film Grain' effect in ME3? I'm super sad its not even an option like it was in previous games..."
@masseffect - " There is no official word on this as of yet, but that is a pretty cool idea."

I wonder if this is part of the reason why custom shepards look different in ME3

you can have film grain or shader based AA take your pick ill take the AA thank you
id be more happy with a DX11 patch and better textures then film grain i turned off on the last 2 games
you DO know that it was there to hide thebad textures right?
dont ask for film grain demand hi res textures.
ME2 on PC had double or quadruple the texture size for many textures, and far fewer overly-compressed normal-maps. And film grain works with shader AA on ME2 (at least FXAA) and as far as I can tell it's not attempting to anti-alias the grain noise.
I liked the effect. It was distinctly Mass Effect.
At any rate, grain is far more likely than a high-res texture pack because of how UE3 assets are packaged; they'd have to re-release half the game in order to upgrade it.

I liked ME2's almost unnoticable, yet there grain. But I wouldn't have anything as noticeable as ME1's

While I can't actually decide which I like better, the climatic film grain effect or the clearer graphics (and so I played for a while without it put it back on in ME2), Mass Effect 1-2 had film great as a sort of trademark, unique, differentiating feature from every other game out there, and I see how many people like it. Seems to be the vast majority of those posting. Count me in.

To be honest, I couldn't tell the difference in ME1 and ME2 with the film grain on and off.

I want film grain back as well! It's a fine taste, and I think, for the more selective players, it really gives a distinct tone to the ME series. It needs to come back!!

I bet there's a FXAA PPI film grain option although I certainly support adding it back as an engine option, defaulting to off.
If you miss it, and have a reasonably good PC, FXAA is an option.

If they add Film Grain, I petition for an option to turn it on/off...

Signed!
I'd love for the option to turn it on again in ME3... actually, it'd give me a reason to replay the game.
I'm dead serious. Film grain just adds to the experience for me (especially since I play on a 50" plasma; I love to feel like I'm in a movie theatre).
