I've been having this problem the entire time ive had dragon age. its really getting to the point to where its irritating me.
specs:
-amd athlon 64 6000+ 3.0Ghz dual core X2 (latest drivers)
-GeForce 8600 gts (latest beta drivers. 191.55 is what the nvidia control panel says. thought hat is for vista. mine should be .38 i think)
-windows xp sp3
-2GB ram
-asus m2n32-SLI deluxe wireless edition mobo
my problem started as very bad flickering or graphical errors, such as my entire screen would look like someone took scissors to it and cut it into little pieces that now flicker around my game window. someitms it would be random, others, they would all seem to meet or spread out from a certain person or object. when you rotate the camera the entire screen goes black and messes up.
i did not have the beta drivers, just the latest certified drivers.upon searching forums and google, i came across a post that said someone with my same card and os had upgraded to the beta drivers and it fixed his problem. i gave it a shot and it did fix my problem...for about a day. i played all day, and went to bed thinking all was fine and dandy and i could go back to slaying darkspawn without further pause.
well this warm fuzzy feeling did not last long...the next day as i played through various parts of the game, i came upon crash, after crash, after crash. very few times after it finished loading a map, like right when i saw the world, it crashed. the other 99% was during conversations and happened at an accelerated pace if i hit escape alot in order to skip dialogue. happened on shale when he was waking up, so to speak. and various other places in the non dlc areas. point at which the crash occured during dialogues, all seemed random.
again, becoming innoyed, off i went...scouring the depths of the internet...
i came across the unnoficial troubleshooting guide here and said to set affinity to one core for multicore systems and it will help solve crashing. i did that. and it worked...again, only for a day >=(
woke up this morning. played for a bit, and about 2 hours into it i got a crash...slightly ticked but i shrugged it off and went back tp playing. setting affinity to one core each time. after a while i opened firefox (game is windowed mode) and went browsing but left the game open.about two minutes went by and i got a bsod. i decided to go do somethign else for a bit and eventually came back abour 3 hours later. well after playing again, i got to the mages tower and after leaving the dreamlike world, the graphics bugs started happening again, though not as much as it had with the non-beta drivers. its happened about a total of 7 times from the exit of the dream like world, killing the boss, straight back to redcliffe, and again when i left and got to denerium for the start of sacred ashes quest. it didnt happen in the fade area when i went to fight the demon possessing the kid. but i did get choppy fps.
can anyone assist me with this delima so i can finally snuff this problem once and for all and not worry about it coming back again...

You say you have the latest drivers, but you think they're for Vista while you're using XP? Maybe you should uninstall those drivers and use the XP ones instead.
Here's a link to the ones I've found for your card -
http://www.nvidia.co...91.07_whql.html
See if those ones work. If not, try going to: http://www.nvidia.co...aspx?lang=en-us
Click the grey 'Graphics Drivers' button and it'll automatically detect which one to download. If it's the same, then it isn't driver-related. But it certainly sounds like it's graphics card-related.

The beta drivers might have been recommended, but I'd also try the certified ones in case it was a driver issue to begin with, and not that they weren't beta. I'm using certified drivers on my 9800GTX and I've had no such issues. It might be the driver in which case it should hopefully be fixed now, or perhaps your graphics card is beginning to have some issues.

Rollback your drivers and uninstall them completely, go with a clean install of a stable build instead of the beta build. See if this helps your problem.

vsync is off. and as stated the beta drivers helped while the stable drivers only hindered. =\\

You said yourself new drivers are out. Lose the notion that beta drivers are all that'll help, new certified drivers are out, so try those anyway. It's worth trying rather than just flat out saying they won't work just because the last ones didn't work out, and just because a set of BETA drivers worked doesn't mean there's no possibility of further harm to the system or them not working in future. Post back whether the new certified ones work or not as you cannot be 100% certain these certified ones won't work because they are NEW certified drivers you haven't tried (unless you tried them and didn't say so). It was also suggested by GN-Lelldorianx to rollback the drivers, THEN install new ones, rather than just install new ones over the top as per usual. There might have been corruption in a past driver update that's stopping new ones from functioning properly. Have you done the rollback? There are steps to take to try and solve this problem and both myself and GN-Lelldorianx are trying to assist you, just follow our steps and things should either get rectified, or resolved with a suggestion of hardware replacement.
Oh, and I re-read your OP, you mentioned you got a BSOD? Any chance you saw what it said? if so, was it something like IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL as the error line? That's driver-related/conflict in a device. Which would require what we've been stating in our posts to try anyway, or replacing the graphics card/problematic device.

I am having the same problem. I have an EVGA 9600GSO 384mb. I initially thought it was overheating, but EVGA precision tells me the cars is only 72c under full load while playing. I've also jacked up my card fan to 100% and dropped my temps to 52c, but the problem still happens after a few hours of play. I have updated my drivers as well.

the new 195.62 whql drivers have shown the same black/messed up screen glitches. i had one crash when talking to brother genitivi about the sacred ashes. not as bad as it was. but still that was only playing for one straight 4 hour session.

No problems here..( XPSP3)
Have you updated DX ? Most games install their own version of DX which can mess with other games..stuttering,crashing,BSOD etc. I keep the latest version of DX close by...5 times out of 10 after installing a game I need to update DX again.
How about trying older drivers...?
Tell me what the crash message says....or Google the message shown .
